I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

His voice also traveled far.

The words were polite.

But Gauss instinctively raised his guard slightly.

The descriptions relayed by others will inevitably contain inaccuracies, so regarding Luna’s words, he believed them partly and doubted them as well. However, upon meeting face-to-face, he instinctively felt an uncomfortable aura emanating from the other’s body.

This feeling of revulsion came without reason but persisted continuously.

It was as if his aura was at odds with the other’s.

If this judgment was correct, he considered himself righteous and upright. Could someone so out of tune with him be any good?

Gauss’s expression remained unchanged, but a shift occurred quietly on the scales.

The various forces within him were silently adjusted to be ready to erupt at any moment.

However, he couldn’t just start a massacre without reason just because their auras clashed.

He decided to first see what Fisher would say and do.

If things could remain peaceful, that would be good; if the other truly harbored ill intent, he would show Fisher the power of his spells.

”Captain Fisher, you’re too kind. If there’s anything, feel free to speak directly, so as to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings between us. Don’t you agree?”

Gauss nodded but had no desire for excessive small talk. The timing and setting were inappropriate, and they were not familiar with each other, especially in such a unique situation. In a relatively safe town, he might not mind finding a suitable place to chat for a while.

At this point, further conversation was futile. It was better for both parties to state their intentions openly.

Then each could go their own way to avoid conflict, which would be beneficial for both sides.

”Captain Gauss, you’re really straightforward.” Fisher’s somewhat pale face lifted into a calm smile.

”Today’s unannounced visit is to capture the traitors within our team responsible for assassinating Captain Wolf. I hope you can facilitate handing over those few traitors, and Gray Wolf’s Fang will express our gratitude.”

As he spoke, his gaze shifted to Luna in the distance.

Gauss paused in brief silence.

”I’m not interested in meddling in your team’s internal disputes.”

Actually, compared to Fisher’s words, he internally believed Luna’s account more.

After all, while strolling around Gray Rock Town, the person following Captain Wolf was Luna, not the Fisher in front of him. The contrast in closeness was apparent.

Moreover, after Captain Wolf’s death, Fisher seemed to be the greatest beneficiary.

But, as stated before,

he was no longer alone. Behind him, nearly thirty members followed, most of whom already had families.

Since he brought them out, Gauss felt it was necessary to safely return them as far as possible.

Of course, this didn’t mean he would act as a meticulous nanny, accompanying them throughout and preventing them from fighting while hiding in safety.

Rather, unnecessary battles that could be avoided should be anticipated.

If Fisher didn’t act against them...

should he pursue a yet unknown justice by placing the members in danger?

This was a question worth pondering.

”Go ahead. But Captain Fisher, I think it’s unlikely any disturbance will come from them.”

Gauss sighed.

From the information provided by both sides, he had drawn a general conclusion.

However, the truth no longer mattered to the Gray Wolf’s Fang Adventurer Group.

Fisher had already gained the allegiance of the core members of Gray Wolf’s Fang, objectively becoming the undisputed captain of the adventurer group. Even if Luna and a few remaining fish managed to escape, they couldn’t stir up much trouble.

Moreover, wiping them out utterly held no significant benefit for him; the team’s morale might flutter, surely with members who had received Luna’s kindness as vice-captain, and killing her could damage his reputation.

Anyway, even if Luna complained to the Adventurer’s Guild, there would likely be no outcome.

On one hand, Fisher could destroy physical evidence in advance, and human evidence would naturally favor him, as most current adventurer group members were aligned with him.

On the other hand, the region belonged to the Demon Territory, a lawless land where the majority of human prophetic spells couldn’t take effect. Even with the slightest chance to overturn the decision, it wouldn’t be easy to convict.

Moreover, Gauss still wondered if the Adventurer’s Guild would really intervene?

He thought it unlikely.

Unless Luna or the late Captain Wolf had some special connection, it would probably come to nothing.

From Gauss’s understanding, the Adventurer’s Guild stood from a human-centric standpoint, meaning their attitude toward adventurer groups as a whole didn’t rely heavily on individual morality.

If Fisher could lead Gray Wolf’s Fang as captain to grow stronger, undertake more commissions, and slay more demons for the human side, then he would be valuable.

”Thank you for your suggestion, but Captain Wolf’s body is still warm, and I’m deeply indebted to him. It’s truly hard to let those few traitors roam free.”

Seeing Fisher dismiss his implicit suggestion to forgive those who could be spared and deciding instead to eradicate them, Gauss shook his head, growing even more cautious inside.

The other displayed a certain venomous trait in character.

As he was about to pass by Gauss, heading towards Luna and others.

Gauss suddenly pulled out the White Magic Wand, swiftly casting Water Manipulation, and launched a Metella Arrow infused with holy energy to strike at the ground in front of Fisher.

Instantly, a large crater erupted on the ground.

Witnessing this sudden occurrence.

Behind Fisher, the members of Gray Wolf’s Fang grabbed their reins, seemingly ready to charge.

And behind Gauss, although they didn’t know why he suddenly acted, Aaliyah and others chose to trust him unconditionally, decisively raising their hands to signal the Red Dragon Team to take up their weapons.

The situation instantly moved to a standoff.

”Captain Gauss, what do you mean by this?” Fisher’s face sank as he quickly retreated a distance.

”I should be the one asking you that. Why attack my comrades?” Gauss’s expression suddenly turned cold, and as he spoke, his entire body began to surge with magic power.

Just now, he had acutely detected a sinister energy flowing from under Fisher’s feet, speeding in a direction.

If the target was Luna and the others, he could barely consider it as Fisher being eager to act.

But what enraged him was that this sinister energy was flowing towards members of the Red Dragon Team, specifically, towards his own teammates.

Fisher was evidently familiar with him and knew that Aaliyah, Ying, Serdur, and Albena were his most important members, yet still chose to act against them.

The situation was clear.

He superficially claimed to be arresting Luna and others for trial when in fact, his target was the Red Dragon Team. To be precise, and as Luna said, he aimed at himself.

Therefore, choosing to first target his closest teammates might have been to make Gauss cautious in his subsequent actions.

However, he miscalculated one thing: Gauss’s perception of dark forces was too keen.

It was akin to suddenly seeing a flame in the dark—once exposed, there was nowhere to hide!

It’s just that what surprised him was how Fisher himself was so concealed. Before manipulating that energy, Gauss hadn’t noticed much anomaly about him.

”Water Manipulation!”

Holy Water quickly recollected, transforming into dozens of tiny water arrows under his control, shooting towards Fisher’s body.

”Puff! Puff! Puff!”

A series of dense sounds of arrows sinking into flesh followed one after another.

Gauss’s Metella Arrow Rain instantly turned Fisher into a sieve.

Was it really that easy?

Gauss instinctively felt something was wrong.

”Hehehe!”

The riddled Fisher began to laugh.

A power completely opposite to Gauss’s holy aura began to surge from his body.

”What’s inside you...”

Gauss frowned, sensing a familiarity in that aura. He had encountered it several times before.

However, the difference was that before, he mostly encountered small fry.
