I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

The essence of Magic itself is meaningful.

Learning more Magic helps him solidify his foundation and consequently accumulate experience as a Magic Envoy.

Others are limited by mental capacity, even if they want to pursue this path they face restrictions, but he is different, he can win by quantity.

Meanwhile, his proficiency in key Magic is also very high.

The combination of these two factors allows him to accumulate experience rapidly, which was the key to his breakthrough to level 7 within a mere two years.

”Study it.”

For Gauss now, the difficulty of learning Tricks and 1st-level Spells is very low, especially the former. Once the Spellbook is in hand, getting started takes just a few minutes, and after looking through it a couple of times, it’s almost fully mastered.

The butler brought up some red tea and snacks.

While enjoying the tea and snacks, he studied Magic.

After a few cups of tea, he had already gotten the hang of two Tricks.

He casually glanced at his current highest proficiency: Gauss Force Field, lv5(155/200).

It still needs forty to fifty points of proficiency to reach lv6.

”Accumulating more and more slowly.”

He could feel the increasing difficulty in gaining proficiency in Gauss Force Field after reaching the latter part of lv5.

Relying solely on daily practice is a matter of grinding over time.

Fortunately, he still has [Demonic Hour].

The purple-quality talent Demonic Hour allows him to receive rewards when killing Demons.

Besides the extremely low chance of obtaining skills, he occasionally bursts some corresponding skill proficiency from daily activities.

This is also why his Gauss Force Field maintains relatively decent growth even after reaching lv5.

Apart from the fixed skill proficiency earned on-site, he has 8 free skill proficiency points burst from Demonic Hour.

As long as he focuses his mind on the skill panel, he could feel them.

This free proficiency is relatively rare; as such, he only accumulated a total of 8 points since acquiring Demonic Hour.

He didn’t want to use a single point yet.

On one hand, even if he put all eight points into the Gauss Force Field spell, it wouldn’t push it from lv5 to lv6.

Even if it were enough, he wouldn’t want to.

He believes these precious proficiency points could be used more effectively, such as when a skill reaches a critical stage, he’s planning to use them when Gauss Force Field is one or two points away from crossing to the next level.

Or when skill proficiency increases stagnate, that’s when he’ll use them.

Good steel should be used on the edge of the blade.

It’s important to note that this free proficiency cannot be used for skill entry.

The reason being, skills before entry, to Gauss, basically don’t exist, they don’t appear on the skill panel, thus there’s no way to apply them.

Otherwise, these eight points of free proficiency would have been even more valuable, equivalent to entry tickets for eight particularly difficult-to-enter spells.

Time flies by in an instant.

Gauss practiced his spells, especially those collected by the adventurer group employees, as well as [Universal Key] and [Hunting].

Conveniently, both Universal Key and Hunting are spells that can be exercised near the base.

As for Hunting’s marked targets, whether Ulfen or Raven Aik, they’re decent practice targets.

Occasionally taking some nearby commissions for actual combat training.

Having killed nearly 1200 monsters, his Monster Atlas total count reached that number.

”Monster kill total: 27888”

And it’s not just him personally.

The fame of the Red Dragon Adventurer Group has also steadily grown.

After settling in Farlim, within a relatively short period, they’ve cleared several thousand-head-level monster nests, and their extensive clearing of surrounding small-scale commissions has also drawn widespread interest.

Some Bottom Adventurers in the southern district felt this deeply.

No one knows when some of them started to notice that the number of commissions in certain outskirts they frequented seemed to decrease significantly, even leading to a rare ”task vacuum” phenomenon in certain areas.

Initially, these Bottom Adventurers were puzzled, but after consulting staff from the Adventurer’s Guild, they learned the culprit was the rapidly famous Red Dragon Team.

After all, a regular commission, plus travel time, might take 3-5 days for an Ordinary Adventurer, but for Gauss, he could take on many at once.

And with the help of Hephaestus, he quickly arrived at the commission site, resolved it in the shortest time, and then headed to the next site, completing over ten commissions in a day.

In full swing, one man and one dragon could rival the labor power of dozens or even hundreds of teams.

More importantly, Gauss has a Constitution of being ”unable to sit idle.”

Whenever he has free time, he enjoys having group members take a series of nearby commissions and then completes them all at once.

While earning money and practicing Magic, he even finds it a bit relieving.

Because he knows those Ordinary Monsters pose no real threat to him, so even though it’s combat, the mental pressure is naturally light.

Moreover, when killing monsters during Demonic Hour, occasionally some skill proficiency would burst out.

”Magic Missile proficiency +1”

”Body Multiplication proficiency +1”

”Flaming Arrow proficiency +1”

”.....”

It’s very relieving just to watch.

Motivated by this reward mechanism, he naturally has strong motivation.

”Leader, today’s newspaper.”

”Thanks.”

Looking at the monster kill total of 27888, Gauss was already planning the next large-scale clearing operation.

Although clearing small-scale commissions doesn’t have a high danger factor, compared to clearing large-scale nests, it’s much less efficient.

”Better read the papers first.”

He looked at the contents of the newspapers the employees brought.

There are many newspapers in Farlim, and there are several copies this time.

Some focus on domestic issues within the city, while others report news from surrounding areas or even distant cities and countries.

”Late-night murderer, presently eight people have been killed in the same manner in alleyways.”

”All the victims, without exception, have their brains dissected.”

”...”

Gauss narrowed his eyes slightly; looks like he’ll need to be more vigilant when practicing Universal Key at night.

”...”

”Earthquake-like tremors have repeatedly occurred recently at the entrance to Barry’s year-sealed underground maze, possibly indicating signs of reopening.”

Gauss saw another news item related to him.

Is it about to reopen?

He suddenly thought of the Universal Key he has and the tightly locked Green Pavilion entrance he encountered on the second level of the underground maze.

If the maze opens, he might try the effect of the Universal Key.

The last time he entered the maze, he was only at level 2, once even faced life-threatening danger, but now he’s at level 7, and his fighting strength is much more impressive. Once opened, entering the maze should be even easier.

”But no rush yet...”

Gauss knows the first sign of the maze opening, Farlim will be immediately informed.

At that point, many Adventurers in Farlim should set off.

He only needs to wait for a notification, then ride Hephaestus to Barry.

”Grimm Town in the Ancestors Province facing a Medusa curse; eighty percent of the town’s residents turned to stone.....”

Gauss’s eyebrows couldn’t help but slightly furrow again.

The Ancestors Province is located east of his Cold Jade Province, also a bordering province adjacent to the Demon territory.

However, compared to the relatively developed Cold Jade Province, Ancestors Province has always been a barren land, despite remaining turbulent over the years.

When reading newspapers before, he frequently encountered news about the Ancestors region, mostly negative reports.

Yet this time the situation is evidently more serious.

A town with eighty percent of the population turned to stone.

The Stone magic of the Demon is among the most dangerous arcanas; if handled promptly, other magic might be able to undo the stone effect, but with just a delay, it might become irreparable as the ordinary person’s organs suffer severe damage from petrification magic power, leading to irreversible harm.

And typically, a town has limited Casters, faced an attack, with eighty percent of the population affected by stone magic, even if the Demons retreated, is there really enough timely rescue force?

”This damned world!”

Gauss suddenly felt a bit agitated.

”No way, I need to personally visit the Guild and see if there are any suitable large commissions.”

These 2000+ monsters short of 30,000, with a bit of luck, might just be a matter of one commission.

He needs to kill some monsters to relieve his oppressive mood.
