A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 289: Chapter 289: The Suicidal Mother and Daughter Duo (3)

Seraphina Sterling’s three questions left Faye Sterling speechless. All the little schemes buried in her heart had been drawn out by Seraphina’s words. Faye looked at Justin Hale, standing beside Aiden Faulkner. ’If that man were my boyfriend, then right now, I would be the one everyone was praising and envying!’

Faye Sterling secretly compared herself to Aiden Faulkner. Aiden was a young lady of the Faulkner family, but she wasn’t their most favored daughter. Besides, the Faulkners had sons; it would never be Aiden’s turn to inherit the family fortune. But she, Faye Sterling, was different. Not only was she a young lady of the Sterling Family, but she was also set to inherit everything!

She was also younger and prettier than Aiden! Her advantages were more than just a few. She was absolutely a better match for Justin Hale! And far more worthy of the title of the Hale family’s Young Mistress!

Seeing the determined look on Faye Sterling’s face, Seraphina Sterling knew her words had worked. Faye definitely had ideas about Justin Hale now. ’I’m sure I’ll soon get to see these two cousins fight over the same man! That should be quite the show!’

Faye Sterling walked up to Justin Hale and Aiden Faulkner, who were surrounded by a crowd, and put on the sweet smile of an innocent younger sister. ”Cousin, aren’t you going to introduce me?”

”Justin, this is Faye Sterling, the young lady of the Sterling Family. She’s a cousin of mine, so I guess that makes her a little sister to you now, too!” Aiden was quite magnanimous; she would never have guessed that this ”little sister” of hers had her sights set on her man.

”The young lady of the Sterling Family?” Justin Hale offered a gentle smile. ”It’s a pleasure to meet you. I never knew Aiden had such a cute little sister.”

When Faye Sterling heard Justin Hale praise her, she was over the moon. ’I still have a chance.’ Faye suppressed the wild fluttering in her heart. ’I can’t be impatient now! I have to keep my cool! I absolutely cannot ruin the image he has of me! I’ll get close to him slowly and gradually win him over!’

”Thank you for the compliment! But instead of ’cute,’ I’d rather hear other praises, like ’pretty,’ ’beautiful,’ or ’charming’!” Faye Sterling was being bold. Though her words sounded arrogant, she delivered them like a willful little girl who expected to be indulged.

Within her words, however, she had hidden a subtle hint, a secret hope that Justin Hale would notice her, that he would see what made her different. But unfortunately, she was disappointed. Justin’s attention was not on her, nor was it on his fiancée, Aiden Faulkner. Instead, it was fixed on a slender figure standing in the corner of the hall—Seraphina Sterling.

’Seraphina Sterling again! Why is she everywhere? She never should have come back! Her very existence is an obstacle! Seraphina Sterling shouldn’t even exist!’

”When did Seraphina Sterling return to the Sterling Family? I’m surprised you invited her to your birthday party.” Justin Hale’s gaze shifted away from Seraphina as he asked the question, feigning nonchalance.

Aiden Faulkner hadn’t expected Justin Hale to ask about Seraphina Sterling specifically. After a moment of shock, she composed herself with a graceful smile. ”Actually, I didn’t know Seraphina was back either. I only invited my aunt and cousin. My aunt probably brought her along. Though Seraphina is part of our circle, she never really socialized much, and she was away from Aethelgard for a whole year. She needs to ease back into things, bit by bit.”

”I see.” Aiden’s explanation was perfectly reasonable, but Justin Hale had a feeling things weren’t that simple. ’That girl is clever, cunning, and insidiously calculating—far from the harmless person she appears to be. Would she really show up at Aiden’s birthday party for such a mundane reason?’ A seed of doubt was planted in Justin’s mind.
