Reincarnated as a Lizard

Roar!

Squeak!

At the same time that Scaly was busy fighting Galahad, the gnoll chieftain and forest rabbit lord were also locked in a deadly battle with the terrifying human who had emerged from the town, both of them wanting nothing more than to escape back into the forest.

Unfortunately for them, just like Galahad couldn’t escape from Scaly due to his injuries, they couldn’t escape from the terrifying injuries that they had inflicted on each other during their battle not too long ago.

Even if this hadn’t originally been a problem as they had been chasing after Scaly, someone far weaker than them, it became a completely different situation now that they were faced with someone who was far stronger than them.

”I didn’t expect both of you to be in such a bad state when I came out earlier. Looks like I’m luckier than I first expected, hehe, neither of you will be able to escape from me!” Chuckling to himself as he said this upon after seeing how the two monsters struggled against him, the powerful human smiled happily.

Not only did the gnoll chieftain and forest rabbit lord not have any way to threaten him in their current state, but they also wouldn’t be able to escape from him. Giving him the perfect opportunity to take care of two powerful leader monsters by himself.

Outside of the fact that his level might increase due to the strength of these two monsters, there was also the fact that killing the two of them and selling their bodies for materials would net him a lot of gold and might also help him get moved to a better location than the third floor of the Howling Cavern.

After all, even though it did pay quite well to be the guardian of a dungeon town, it was far inferior to what one could earn from being the master of a guild branch.

Just the branch leader inside the dungeon town he was charged with being in control of earned more than twenty times what he did in a year!

Worst of all, that person had not gotten the job because he was a powerful adventurer, but because his family had some connections with some higher ups in the guild... And it was also for this reason he had ended up as the guardian of the town even though his strength more than qualified him to be a branch manager!

”Hmph! If I kill these two, I should be able to secure the position of branch manage in this town. After all, that guy hasn’t done anything useful after taking control and wastes all his time drinking himself under the table while bragging about himself!”

As he said this, the powerful human became even more eager than before as began to attack the gnoll chieftain and forest rabbit lord in a crazy manner resembling a berserker that had gone crazy.

Roar!?

Squeak!?

Being on the receiving end of the crazy attack, both the gnoll chieftain and forest rabbit lord could not help crying out in surprise as the powerful human suddenly seemed to have become even more powerful than before

In the end, they could only continue working together despite their injuries and slowly make their way towards the forest while praying that the crazy human wouldn’t suddenly end up becoming even stronger.

If he really did get stronger, the two of them might not even have a chance to reach the forest before they were beaten to death by the crazy human!

...

As the struggle to stay alive continued for the gnoll chieftain and the forest rabbit lord, Scaly slept peacefully inside the hollowed-out tree without anyone showing up to disturb her rest.

Roll~ roll~ roll~

It was only after over a full day of sleep that Scaly finally began to show signs of life again, as she began rolling around inside the hollowed-out tree in an attempt to properly wake herself up from her deep sleep.

Roll-

Thunk-!

However, it was only after she ended up accidentally rolling into the wooden walls that surrounded her that she finally woke up.

That was a good sleep~

Opening her eyes with a happy expression on her face, Scaly could not help letting out a satisfied groan as she got over to the opening that she had entered the hollowed-out tree through before making her way outside and into the swamp.

Although a large amount of mud had dried and made her look even dirtier than before, she didn’t plan to try cleaning herself before she got out of the swamp. Understanding very well that she would just end up getting dirty again.

Not to mention, she had no idea if other humans had appeared inside the swamp searching for the human knight, she had killed during the time she had slept, so she considered it to be fine to stay dirty for a bit longer to prevent the humans from noticing her distinct scales from a distance.

”Everyone over here! I found some of Sir Galahad’s remains!”

Just as Scaly made her way down the hollowed-out tree and landed back on the muddy ground that she still disliked, a loud voice echoed out not too far away from her in the direction of where she had left the body of the human knight to the eager swamp alligators lying in wait below the surface of the murky waters.

Did more humans show up?

Thinking this to herself, Scaly could not help feeling curious. Now that her strength had recovered and her mana was full once again, she wasn’t as cautious as she had been when facing the knight human. Instead, she felt like this might be an opportunity to increase her strength as long as none of the humans are too strong for her to handle at the moment.

[Human, Fire Mage, lvl 27]

[Human, Guardian Knight, lvl 36]

[Human, Warrior, lvl 25]

[Human...]

However, when she snuck close enough to see the group of more than a dozen humans that had shown up to search for the human she had killed, she quickly decided against attacking them.

Not to mention that some of the humans were stronger than the human knight that she had killed, most of them were around the same level of strength as the human knight.

Facing over ten human knights at the same time... Sorry, she really couldn’t do that at the moment, even if she had fully recovered her strength and mana.

”This is indeed the remain of Sir Galahad... To think he would die here of all places just after he managed to become a D Rank adventurer...”

”Indeed, we were planning to go down to the fourth floor in another week. Now it looks like I will have to find someone different.”

”Tch... He had quite a few connections with those from the church after training a few of their acolytes, do you guys think they will put out a bounty for the monster that killed him?”

”Yes, I already heard that acolyte he saved sending a petition through the guild to the church and have them set up a bounty for the monster that killed him... A unique lizard with a unique scale pattern, according to his description of the monster.”

”Unique scale pattern? Should sell quite well in the noble district, if there is a bounty put up, I might be tempted to take it on and revenge our fellow adventurer!”

”Hehe, who do you fool? You are...”

As she listened to the group of humans chatting with each other, Scaly glanced around the place where they were standing and noticed that the place had already been fully surrounded by swamp alligators on all sides.

Not just that, but more importantly, she realized that the ground they were standing on was in fact not ground, but a large mass of wood and dead plants that seemed to be held together a large amount of dried mud that had already started loosening in some places where the swamp alligators had passed through to get the body of the human knight earlier after she had left. Dragging their wet bodies across the dried mud and loosening some of it in the process.

If she made all of it wet enough that it couldn’t hold up the wood and dead plants any longer, wouldn’t the group of humans all end up in a similar situation to the friend of theirs that they had come searching for?

If it really did work, she might not have to watch quietly as all of these humans left without being able to kill any of them!

Whoosh~

Feeling like it was at the very least worth an attempt and the fact that she was more than confident in being able to escape inside the swamp now that her strength had fully recovered, Scaly slowly began to approach the group of humans with an excited expression on her face. Already looking forward to how much her strength would improve if she managed to kill the large group of humans.
