Chapter 41: Chapter 41: We Are the Gu Family

”I hope you’ll always be as happy and joyful as you are tonight.”

This was surely the sweetest thing Han Biwei had ever heard in her life.

She completely forgot about the mess with the Gu Family. She gave the man a bashful push. ”You really have a way with words. Oh, it’s so cheesy, I can barely stand it.”

She covered her face shyly but peeked at the man through her fingers. ”But... you’d better remember what you just said.”

Qin Tianxuan was baffled. ’Weren’t those words perfectly normal?’

He had just said whatever came to mind, and his gratitude toward Han Biwei was from the bottom of his heart.

A young lady from a rich, prominent family, unyielding even when faced with a serious illness. Later, out of gratitude for a past kindness, she tirelessly raised Niannian, even working odd jobs to support the child, never once asking her family for a single cent!

’Such character, such independence—how many girls in the world could do that?’

Holding Han Biwei’s small hand, Qin Tianxuan was determined to hold up the sky for her!

Meanwhile, in Weiwei’s small courtyard, Han Qian Jun and his wife sat in the living room with ugly expressions, sighing.

Across from them stood several people from the Southern County’s Gu Family.

There was a Second Uncle Gu and two matronly women from the Gu Family.

The three of them seemed to find the sofa too dirty to sit on and remained standing, staring at Han Qian Jun and his wife. ”We heard the Han Family kicked you out? That’s your family’s problem, and we couldn’t care less. But Han Biwei still has that child with her, and that’s a problem!”

What?

’What does Weiwei raising a child have to do with the Gu Family?’

Han Qian Jun shot to his feet. ”What are you trying to do? Did you come here just to humiliate my daughter?”

Jiang Wan Jun, who was beside him, pulled her husband back. She rose and said coolly, ”Back then, Weiwei’s engagement to Young Master Gu was just a verbal agreement. Later, didn’t you cancel it because you despised her for being sick and said she wouldn’t live long?”

The Gu Family’s Second Uncle immediately flushed red.

They had indeed acted dishonorably.

But the two Gu Family women sneered. ”So what? Back then, Han Biwei was so sick she barely looked human. Was the Gu Family supposed to welcome her with a grand wedding sedan and pay for her treatment? On what grounds?”

They clamored on as if they were completely in the right.

Jiang Wan Jun’s hands trembled with anger. ”My daughter was lying in a hospital bed! I was already preparing to call off the engagement myself. I didn’t want to drag the Gu Family down! But you people... dozens of you stormed into her room, shouting and throwing things as you broke it off! The shock almost killed Weiwei—they barely managed to save her!”

Speaking of that incident, it was definitely Aunt Jiang’s most painful memory.

It was also after that incident that her daughter, still sick, ran away from home.

’Hmph, the Gu Family... Weiwei never even agreed to marry into their family in the first place, yet she was the one who ended up humiliated. Anyone would find that unbearable!’

The atmosphere in the room grew increasingly tense.

Second Uncle Gu clasped his hands behind his back and sneered. ”Enough. We’re here today to solve a problem, not to argue. The Gu Family is a prestigious and well-known clan in Southern County. We won’t stoop to your level.”

Jiang Wan Jun suppressed her anger. ”We already returned the betrothal gifts to the Gu Family back then. I don’t understand what problem is left.”

Second Uncle Gu’s eyelids drooped. ”My eldest nephew is about to get engaged. The bride-to-be’s status is exceptionally noble. But now, there are rumors in Su City that the child Han Biwei has is from our Gu Family! Now what’s that all about?”

The two Gu Family women chimed in, talking over each other. ”The Gu Family has nothing to do with Han Biwei! Our young master is definitely not that child’s father. Who knows where that little bastard came from! But what if the bride-to-be’s family hears these rumors? How bad would that look?”

BANG!

Han Qian Jun slammed his hand on the table. ”Get out! Niannian is my granddaughter! She has absolutely nothing to do with the Gu Family! That’s all I have to say!”

”Oh-ho!”

’Since when did this Han Qian Jun get such a temper?’

Second Uncle Gu’s eyes were filled with disdain. ”Lao Han, you’re acting pretty tough now, huh? Back when we broke off the engagement, who was it that was on their knees, begging us for another chance? Haven’t seen you in a few days, and you’ve grown a spine!”

But now, Han Qian Jun wasn’t angry anymore. His expression became even more contemptuous. ”Is the Gu Family so great? Sorry, but right now, the Gu Family is nothing but dog shit in my eyes!”

”Fuck!”

Second Uncle Gu and the two women exploded in fury. ”Han Qian Jun, I think you’ve lost your goddamn mind! Let me make this clear. Tomorrow, you will contact the media in Su City and issue a public statement clarifying that the child named Niannian has absolutely no connection to the Gu Family! If you can’t do that, then the Gu Family will have to take action!”

They were seething with aggression, having lost count of how many times they’d shouted, ”the Gu Family”!

As if the name ”Gu Family” was the most incredible thing in the world...

From the back of the living room, Niannian came out hugging a Barbie doll, frightened by the heavy atmosphere.

She rubbed her eyes. ”Grandpa, Grandma, what are they talking about? Did I do something wrong?”

Jiang Wan Jun’s heart ached. She immediately hugged Niannian. ”It’s okay, sweetie. It has nothing to do with you. You didn’t do anything wrong. They’re the ones being unreasonable.”

But Second Uncle Gu and the others were impatient. ”We’re getting nowhere with you two old geezers. Get Han Biwei over here right now! Don’t hide her, it’s useless! Hmph. Now that she’s been kicked out of the Han Family, she’s probably thinking about marrying into our Gu Family, isn’t she?”

’That must be it!’

’As a prominent family in Southern County, they’d seen this kind of thing plenty of times.’

’Han Biwei gets a child from god-knows-where, then spreads rumors everywhere that it’s from the Gu Family, all as a scheme to marry into a rich family and become a young mistress in one fell swoop!’

’Fuck, we can’t let that happen!’

Thinking this, Second Uncle Gu pulled out his phone. ”Tell the men outside to come in and tear this courtyard down! Let’s see if that bitch Han Biwei comes out then!”
