Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Challenge of the Southern Domain’s Celestial King

The Night Emperor’s forces: Six Great Pavilions and Nine Battle Departments.

From the Imperial Capital: the Five Celestial Halls and twelve Elders!

A vast army surrounded them, their power immense enough to shake the very heavens.

Qin Tianxuan stood by the shores of Mirror Lake, hands clasped behind his back, a desolate air about him.

The Zhao Family’s thugs were so scared they’d pissed and shat themselves.

Zhao Tianxiong stumbled and fell, then began to crawl desperately toward Qin Tianxuan.

”Spare me! Spare me! I... I was wrong. Who... who on earth are you?”

Even now, Zhao Tianxiong still didn’t know the other party’s identity, but did that matter?

An Elder stepped in his way, pressing the Grand Marshal’s Sword to his neck and roaring, word by word, ”The Night Emperor Celestial Profound is here! You dare desecrate the cemetery of Empress Ye Di? Who gave you such courage?”

Night Emperor!

The Celestial Profound Night Emperor?!

Zhao Tianxiong felt like his head was going to explode. He trembled uncontrollably, his pants soaked through.

’Oh my god... He’s *the* Night Emperor? The one who slaughtered one hundred thousand Celestial Demons and waged war across the world?’

’What have I done?’

The world-shaking battle three months ago was known to all.

Zhao Tianxiong knew he was done for. The entire Zhao Family was done for.

But he didn’t want to die.

Tears and snot streamed down Zhao Tianxiong’s face as he kowtowed desperately.

The three thousand thugs behind him fell to their knees in a panic, each cowering and trying to make themselves smaller.

Without a single glance, Qin Tianxuan spoke. ”In the southern wastelands, I’ve had thirty-seven pits dug. The thirty-seven principal offenders of the Zhao Family can be sent there now.”

Ah!

No!

The godson thugs of the Zhao Family, who were like vicious tigers and fierce wolves, were now all wailing loudly.

Now that they were face-to-face with true power and authority, they were more terrified than anyone.

They were used to throwing their weight around, so they understood better than anyone the terrifying nature of true power.

At the Night Emperor’s side, Wutian, the War Pavilion Leader, prepared to act.

Just then, a rumbling sound echoed. Dozens of military vehicles began to file in through the entrance to Mirror Lake.

All the vehicles bore the insignia of the Southern Domain Battle Department!

Wutian’s eyes flashed. ”Sir, it’s the Heaven-Suppressing King, guardian of the Southern Domain!”

The lead command vehicle screeched to a halt. The door swung open, and a pair of leather boots hit the ground.

A man stepped arrogantly from the vehicle. He was tall and slender, clad in a Battle Department leather uniform, his eyes like a hawk’s.

He was the Heaven-Suppressing King of the Southern Domain, the eldest son of the Canglan Family from the Imperial Capital. Born into a prestigious Emperor Clan, his aura was extraordinary.

He scuffed one of his leather boots, surveying the scene. ”This is the territory of my Southern Domain Battle Department, isn’t it?” he said with cold arrogance. ”What makes the Night Emperor of the Northern Domain so bold as to cause trouble on my turf?”

The Elders of the Five Great Celestial Halls and the twelve Elders all frowned.

This Heaven-Suppressing King and the Night Emperor, one in the south and one in the north, were known as the Twin Pillars of Da Xia. But in reality, the Heaven-Suppressing King had always looked down on the Celestial Profound Night Emperor.

He often spouted arrogant nonsense, saying Qin Tianxuan was a commoner who’d gotten lucky to climb so high. That in terms of background, status, and even strength, he was completely unworthy of his position.

Qin Tianxuan watched the Heaven-Suppressing King calmly. ”This is a personal matter,” he said. ”It has nothing to do with the Battle Department.”

The Heaven-Suppressing King sneered. ”I said it once, this is my territory. And the Zhao Family is under my protection!”

Ah!

Zhao Tianxiong, who had closed his eyes and was waiting to die, was suddenly ecstatic.

’He never thought the Heaven-Suppressing King would actually come to protect him!’

The Heaven-Suppressing King flicked a bit of dust from his sleeve, his eyes narrowing. ”The Zhao Family of Jiangning once made a donation to the Southern Domain’s army. A sizable one. That is a great service. Whatever crimes their family may have committed, this service absolves them. That’s my declaration. Who disagrees?”

Wutian flew into a rage. ”The Zhao Family are nothing but tyrants who terrorize the people of Jiangning! They destroyed our Empress’s tomb! Anyone who wants to protect them will have to get through me first!”

The Heaven-Suppressing King chuckled drily. ”You? Challenge me? You’re not worthy. Tell the Night Emperor to come out. Now *he* might be fun to play with.”

Qin Tianxuan patted Wutian’s shoulder and stepped forward. ”You want to challenge me?”

At his words, the Heaven-Suppressing King clenched his fists, his face twisting into a ferocious scowl. ”You got lucky in the Battle of the Desert North and managed to become Da Xia’s Guardian God. Hmph! If I had led that army, I could have defeated the Celestial Demons, too—and I would have made it look easy!”

’So that’s what he’s hung up on.’

Qin Tianxuan replied with indifference, ”If you want honor and glory, go earn it yourself. I don’t have time for this nonsense. You and I are both defenders of Da Xia. Stop acting so disgracefully.”

What?!

The Heaven-Suppressing King trembled with anger. ”Qin Tianxuan, you son of a bitch, I challenge you right now!”

”Wait until I’m finished,” Qin Tianxuan scoffed, raising his hand toward the ringleader, Zhao Tianxiong.

The Heaven-Suppressing King roared, ”I said he’s under my protection! How dare you!”

CRACK!

With a single palm strike from Qin Tianxuan, Zhao Tianxiong was dead. His tone was utterly flat. ”I killed him. So what?”

By the shores of Mirror Lake, startled birds flew into the air. The Heaven-Suppressing King roared, flung off his leather uniform, and charged.

”Celestial King, don’t!”

The Elders of the Five Great Celestial Halls and the twelve Elders scrambled to get between them, desperately holding back the Heaven-Suppressing King.

Veins bulged on the Heaven-Suppressing King’s forehead as he thrashed and roared.

On Qin Tianxuan’s side, there was only stunned silence.

’How can he guard the Southern Domain with a mindset like this?’ Qin Tianxuan thought. ’I heard he only got his position because of his family’s influence. It seems the rumors are true.’

”Get them all out of Mirror Lake,” Qin Tianxuan commanded. ”From this day forward, this area is a restricted zone. No one is to set foot here again.” His thoughts turned to his daughter, still in Su City, and he lost all interest in dragging this out.

At that moment, the struggling Heaven-Suppressing King shrieked, ”Qin Tianxuan, are you fucking kidding me? You came to my territory to raise hell over some broad who’s been dead for years? Do you have any sense of decorum? What was that dead bitch’s name again? Ye Shuanghua, was it? Believe me when I say I’ll go back to the Imperial Capital and have the Ye Family set you straight!”

Qin Tianxuan, who had already turned away, suddenly froze.

Killing intent solidified in his gaze. The world around him fell silent.

Qin Tianxuan turned slowly, his eyes locked on the Heaven-Suppressing King. ”Let him go,” he said. ”I accept your challenge!”
