Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: A Family of Paupers

Han Biwei had been holding the man’s hand, but Qin Tianxuan let go shortly after they stepped outside the hotel.

The man picked up his daughter again.

Han Biwei looked a little crestfallen. ”You... Can we not even hold hands?”

Qin Tianxuan sighed softly. ”Miss Han, there is only one woman in my heart, and that is Shuanghua. As for our fake marriage, once things have stabilized on your end, I will explain everything clearly to our elders.”

Han Biwei lowered her head, lost in thought. After a long moment, she said softly, ”The most important thing is for Niannian to have a real home. I’m a simple person. I just want to live a peaceful, stable life. The two of us... we can get to know each other slowly.”

The meaning behind her words was obvious: she was willing to give things a try with Qin Tianxuan.

Qin Tianxuan could only play dumb.

Meanwhile, the daughter in his arms had fallen asleep from exhaustion.

But she wasn’t sleeping very soundly. As they walked, Niannian’s stomach rumbled. Han Biwei gasped. ”She’s only had a bowl of porridge since this morning. The poor child is starving.”

Qin Tianxuan immediately looked around. ”Let’s find a nice restaurant. You can order whatever you want.”

Niannian woke up and rubbed her eyes. ”Daddy, a bowl of noodles is fine.”

Niannian was so thoughtful. Qin Tianxuan felt his eyes sting. ”Okay, Daddy will take you right now.”

They found a simple ramen shop nearby, and the family of three enjoyed a cozy meal together.

Watching Niannian wolf down her food, Qin Tianxuan’s heart ached even more. ”Eat slowly. Daddy’s a really good cook. Once we’re settled, I’ll cook for you every day.”

As a thought struck him, he took out his phone, stepped aside, and contacted Prince.

”Sir, the gifts have been deposited into the Golden Sparrow Silver Alliance vault. What are your instructions?”

Qin Tianxuan mulled it over. ”I’ll ask Uncle Han’s opinion when I get back. Also, ensure all the assets for the gifts are kept completely confidential. Hmph. That’ll keep them from being targeted by unsavory characters.”

”Rest assured, Sir. I’ve already notified the God of Wealth Hall to take precautions. No one will be able to find any information on those jewels and properties! However, this means that bunch from the Han Family will doubt the gifts’ authenticity. You might not be familiar with them, but they’re the type of people who can’t stand to see others succeed.”

Qin Tianxuan was completely unconcerned. ”Miss Han and her family don’t care about such worldly possessions, so why should I flaunt them?”

Prince was full of admiration. ”All the brothers really admire Miss Han. She’s so unfazed by such wealth and splendor. She really is a good woman!”

The Night Emperor’s subordinates knew their boss was hopelessly devoted to one woman, and that it was difficult for him to be alone. Their unspoken message was that he should cherish a good woman like Han Biwei. If they could become a couple, the boss would have someone to look after him, and the brothers could finally rest easy.

Of course, Qin Tianxuan understood, but he changed the subject. ”Have the brothers monitor the situation in the Northern Domain. I’m very concerned about it.”

When he put down his phone and looked up, he saw his daughter standing in front of him, holding her ramen bowl and watching him.

”Niannian, what’s wrong?”

”N-nothing’s wrong. I was just afraid you’d suddenly disappear, Daddy. As long as I can see you, I feel safe.”

Qin Tianxuan’s eyes warmed, and the words struck the softest spot in his heart.

”Daddy won’t leave you. Never! I swear!”

A man eating nearby got annoyed. ”What’s the big deal? Can’t you see you’re blocking the way? You think you own the place? Go eat over at your table.”

Qin Tianxuan’s head snapped up, a flash of killing intent in his eyes!

The meddling man felt a sudden chill and nearly fell flat on his butt.

Qin Tianxuan spun around. ”Boss, I’m renting out the whole shop. My daughter will eat wherever she damn well pleases!”

Han Biwei was mortified. She hurried over, rubbing her forehead. ”I’m so sorry, everyone. We’re almost finished. So sorry.”

She pulled Qin Tianxuan and Niannian back to their seats and rolled her eyes at him. ”Look at you. It’s one thing to be good to your daughter, but do you have to be so reckless?”

Qin Tianxuan was stunned. ”I can’t even rent out the ramen shop?”

Han Biwei sighed. ”I know you were in the military and your business failed later on, but you still have a little money left, right?”

Qin Tianxuan thought for a moment. ”Well, except for the part about the business failing, the rest is true.”

Han Biwei smiled softly. ”Save your money. We’ll need to buy a house in a good school district when she starts school, and there will be plenty of other expenses.” She then took out a card and handed it to him. ”Use the money on here to pay back the 300,000 for renting the helicopter. I have some savings, too. We’ll take it one step at a time.”

Huh?

Qin Tianxuan was baffled. ”What 300,000? The fee for renting the helicopter?”

Han Biwei squeezed his hand. ”I said take it, so just take it. It was the first time Niannian and I have ever ridden in a helicopter. It was quite a thrilling experience.”

Qin Tianxuan pushed the card away. ”I can’t use your money.”

As the two of them awkwardly pushed the card back and forth, Niannian put down her chopsticks, squeezed between them, and took both of their hands. ”We’re a family. Daddy, Little Mama, stop passing it back and forth.”

With that, Niannian stuffed the bank card into Qin Tianxuan’s pocket.

Qin Tianxuan had little concept of money, so he just smiled. ”Let’s eat first.”

This entire scene was witnessed by a shifty-looking man at the door, who happened to be one of Li Xiaohai’s lackeys.

His eyes filled with contempt as he turned and headed back to the Millennium Grand Hotel.

Meanwhile, the hotel ballroom was in chaos. Friends and family stared awkwardly at the engaged couple on stage.

Han Qianqian was twisting Li Xiaohai’s ear, sobbing. ”What the hell happened? What was that about the villa? I’ve never been so humiliated! Why does Han Biwei get to have such a grand moment? That... that one piece of her jewelry is worth more than all of your engagement gifts combined!”

Li Xiaohai’s expression was grim, and he was seething with rage internally.

But since he still had use for Han Qianqian, he could only swallow his anger.

As the man’s eyes darted about, trying to think of an explanation, his lackey ran over and yelled, ”Boss! I just saw Han Biwei and her man! The three of them, with the kid, eating ramen! What a bunch of broke losers! It’s hysterical!”
