Celestial Night Emperor

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Sharing a Bed

In the courtyard, a tree blossomed with frost.

Inside the small house, the delicious scent of cooking filled the air.

Qin Tianxuan, wearing an apron, brought out the dishes one by one.

He hadn’t been boasting. His skills were truly undeniable.

Han Qian Jun and his wife showered him with praise, while Niannian helped out, her face filled with adoration.

Seeing the surprised and adoring look on his daughter’s cute face, Qin Tianxuan felt that everything was worth it.

After dinner, Qin Tianxuan took a shower and shaved. When he came out, Niannian cried out again, ”Wow, Daddy, you’re so handsome!”

He had a tall, slender build, eyes as deep as the ocean, with sharp brows and starlike eyes. He was leagues handsomer than any of those pretty-boy celebrities.

Even Han Biwei found herself staring for a few moments before turning away, embarrassed.

Jiang Wan Jun frowned again.

She made an excuse to take her daughter outside.

”Weiwei, what’s really going on between you and Xiaoqin?”

Han Biwei replied shyly, ”Can I explain it to you later?”

Jiang Wan Jun lowered her voice. ”Let me just ask you one thing. Have you consummated the marriage?”

This was the question Han Biwei dreaded most. Panicked, she nodded frantically. ”Yes, Mom, we have. We’re husband and wife.”

Only then was Jiang Wan Jun satisfied. ”Then live a good life together. In a few days, your dad and I will go out and look for jobs. We don’t need you two to support us. Of course, Tianxuan isn’t short on money, but we can’t just sit at home and freeload off our son-in-law, can we?”

Han Biwei’s neck was now bright red. Her heart pounded with anxiety after the lie, and she didn’t hear another word her mother said.

That night, Jiang Wan Jun slept with Niannian in her arms, while Han Qian Jun rested quietly in the small room next door.

They had deliberately left the central master bedroom for them.

Jiang Wan Jun had even made the bed.

The night grew deep, and all was silent outside.

Qin Tianxuan stood in the small courtyard, gazing at the cold stars and listening to the night wind rustle the frosted plum blossoms. He was in a bind.

’Only one bedroom, and just one bed?’

’Should I leave?’

’But if I just leave, what will happen when Niannian wakes up?’

’And what would Uncle Han and Aunt Jiang think?’

’Forget it. I’m a man. Standing for one night is no big deal.’

Just as he was lost in thought, the bedroom door opened a crack, and a trembling voice came through. ”Y-you, come in!”

Inside, Han Biwei had just finished showering. Freshly scented, she was dressed in a large, modest set of pajamas that covered her completely.

But with her damp hair, her flushed face, and the red quilt on the large, soft bed, the scene was undeniably intimate.

Qin Tianxuan walked in and sat on a chair opposite the bed. ”I’ll sleep on the floor!”

”No. You’ve worked hard all day, and you even found someone to treat my dad’s injury. You take the bed.”

As the two argued, unable to agree, a sudden knock sounded at the door.

”Weiwei, it’s Mom. I brought you some hot water!”

’Oh my god, the bedroom has a water dispenser. Why is Mom bringing hot water? She’s obviously here to do some recon!’

While Qin Tianxuan was still hesitating, Han Biwei grew frantic. She shoved him onto the bed and yanked the covers over him.

She whispered with a hint of warning, ’Shh! I just lied to my mom. You can’t blow my cover. If she knew the truth, she’d be furious. I don’t want my parents to be angry!”

And so Qin Tianxuan, the great Night Emperor, found himself helplessly huddled under the covers.

Han Biwei gritted her teeth, pulled off her pajama top, and went to open the door wearing only her underthings.

Outside, Jiang Wan Jun peered inside, a peculiar smile spreading across her face. ”Don’t wear yourselves out. I know a reunion after so long is more exciting than a honeymoon. And don’t worry, the soundproofing in these bungalows is excellent.”

The implication of the last sentence made Han Biwei’s face turn red as an apple. She shut the door and flicked off the lights.

In the darkness, she crawled into bed and huddled under the covers, her body trembling slightly.

And yet, beside her, Qin Tianxuan had somehow fallen fast asleep.

’Unbelievable. How can you actually be asleep?!’

Han Biwei slept poorly that night, only drifting into a light, hazy sleep as dawn approached.

She woke up to broad daylight, feeling that something wasn’t right.

Ah! She found her pale arm draped over the man’s neck, her long legs tangled around his waist.

Qin Tianxuan looked at her, embarrassed. ”I didn’t dare wake you. You’re surprisingly forceful when you sleep. You wouldn’t let me move an inch.”

Han Biwei swallowed hard, covered her face with her hands, and burrowed back under the covers.

Qin Tianxuan quickly got out of bed, got dressed, and with his back to her, said, ”From now on, I’ll have Niannian sleep with you. I’ll find an excuse to sleep in the small cottage.”

From under the covers, Han Biwei muffled an ”mhm,” then, remembering something, she poked her head out. ”School has already started. We still haven’t finished the paperwork since returning to Su City. We need to get Niannian’s household registration and find a school. I’ll get on that today.”

This was definitely the top priority!

Qin Tianxuan immediately took out his phone. ”I’ll call for a car. We can go handle the paperwork together.”

Establishing household registration, getting new ID cards... there were many procedures, and all of them were tedious.

Han Biwei was especially worried about the household registration book for their family of three.

After all, her marriage to Qin Tianxuan was a sham. When the time came, how would they prove it was legitimate?

As it turned out, the moment she arrived at the government office, a whole team of people was dispatched to help her with the paperwork.

’Is government service really this good now?’ Han Biwei wondered with suspicion.

Qin Tianxuan said nothing. He guessed that Governor Chen Hai had put in a word.

But Han Biwei was now worried about something else.

’Ever since I returned to Su City, it feels like some powerful figure has been pulling strings for me from behind the scenes. What could it mean?’

’Have I been targeted by some rich old man?’

Because she had once been a well-known debutante from a prominent Su City family, it wasn’t an impossible thought.

Seeing Weiwei so worried, Qin Tianxuan stepped away to a secluded spot and gave a direct order into his phone: ”Stand down. Do not use any connections. I will give the order when it is necessary!”

By noon, all the paperwork was taken care of without a hitch.

They picked up Niannian in the car, took some photos, and got the household registration book for their family of three.

’This is great.’ Flipping through the household register, Han Biwei finally felt at ease.

She told Qin Tianxuan to take their daughter out to relax while she drove off to take care of the school situation.

Qin Tianxuan watched her leave alone, then said to Niannian, ”Daughter, your mommy knows that getting you into a school will be difficult. She’s afraid I’ll get worried and stressed, so she’s gone to handle the hardest part all by herself. You must remember that your mommy, Weiwei, is truly good to you, and to me!”
