I Return From Hell

Chapter 179: Chapter 170: Obtaining a Crystal Core Again

BANG.

Just as Shi Qiushui was shutting the car door, the pair of red eyes closed in at a terrifying speed—it was like Instant Teleportation. A jolt of terror gave her a surge of strength.

She slammed the door shut!

BANG.

In that instant, a heavy impact slammed into the car.

The entire vehicle shuddered violently, nearly throwing Shi Qiushui from her seat. She screamed in terror, desperately clinging to the door handle, terrified the monster outside would pull it open.

She glanced back.

A deep, inward-facing dent had appeared on the heavy car door. Although it wasn’t pierced through, it was a testament to the immense power of that last blow.

”Help me!”

Shi Qiushui had no idea what to do. Usually so decisive, she was now a complete mess, reduced to a helpless woman screaming in her seat.

Unfortunately, this luxury car, worth millions, had excellent soundproofing. No one outside could hear a thing.

SCREEECH.

The piercing sound of scraping metal grated on the nerves.

The Red-eyed Lizard was using its sharp claws and had actually pierced through the car door!

”Stay away!”

”Help me!”

Shi Qiushui finally realized that the monster couldn’t open the door and could only try to smash its way in with brute force.

She quickly let go of the handle and scrambled over to the other side, sitting in the seat closer to the road. Her hand reached for that door’s handle, ready to escape at a moment’s notice.

But for some reason...

The next moment...

The impacts stopped.

”Hm?”

Shi Qiushui froze for a second, but she didn’t dare let her guard down, her whole body tense.

It was only then that she noticed her clothes were soaked with cold sweat. ’Right, call the police!’

After hanging up the phone, Shi Qiushui realized something: it would probably take the police at least half an hour to get here.

’What am I supposed to do now?’

She, who always planned her every move, felt like she couldn’t think straight.

Who would have thought.

A police car arrived moments later, and inside was Wang Quanzhi!

...

「A few minutes earlier.」

Xia Yu, who was searching the area for the Red-eyed Lizard, heard the loud impacts and rushed over, immediately spotting the creature.

WHOOSH.

As she sprinted, she pulled a mask from her pocket and put it on, then blurred into an afterimage, closing the distance between them.

The Red-eyed Lizard’s senses were sharp. It instantly perceived a deadly threat and decisively gave up ramming the car door, even abandoning the man on the ground whose throat had been torn out, now taking his last few breaths.

It specifically darted into thickets, concealed spots, and places difficult for humans to traverse.

One had to admit, it was very clever.

This did indeed slow Xia Yu down, but that was all. The distance between them continued to shrink.

In less than a minute, they had crossed over a thousand meters, startling several students along the way.

”Did you just see a figure whoosh past?”

”Not even Su Shen is faster than my eyes, but I didn’t see anything. You must have been seeing things.”

...

The students joked about it and didn’t give it a second thought.

Little did they know,

they had just had a brush with death and missed the chance to brag about it on their social media feeds.

WHOOSH.

WHOOSH.

Xia Yu sprinted for several more seconds, rounded a corner, and found the Red-eyed Lizard was gone.

’It’s hiding?’

She scanned her surroundings vigilantly, on full alert.

Although the darkness of night affected her vision, the winter trees and plants offered little cover. With the surrounding streetlights and moonlight, finding her target wouldn’t be difficult.

At a certain moment,

above Xia Yu’s head, on the trunk of a thick tree, a pair of red eyes suddenly sprouted. It stared down at the figure below, a flash of malice in the depths of its eyes. ℯⅇ𝙡.

”Hm?”

Xia Yu’s delicate brows furrowed. She snapped her head up, the Blood Butterfly already in her hand, ready to strike at any moment.

But there was nothing above her.

Confused, she lowered her gaze and took two more steps forward, murmuring to herself, ’Where could it be?’

Just then,

the pair of red eyes ”grew” out again. But on closer inspection, it wasn’t the tree trunk that had sprouted eyes at all.

It was clearly the Red-eyed Lizard, clinging upside down to the tree trunk!

Its body was simply a similar color to the bark, and the surrounding light was too dim, making it incredibly difficult to spot.

WHOOSH.

Its powerful limbs suddenly pushed off as it opened its gaping, bloody maw and lunged for the back of Xia Yu’s neck.

It had ambushed her because there was nowhere else to hide in the vicinity; the human below would have found it sooner or later. But of course, the most important reason was this: the human woman below emanated an alluring aura!
