I Return From Hell

Chapter 177: Chapter 169: Blood-Stained Campus

SPLASH.

Suddenly, something bit her ankle. She only had time for a single cry of pain before she was dragged into the lake, vanishing without a sound.

No one noticed.

Just then, Xia Yu walked out of the Second Stadium and arrived at the lakeshore.

...

...

North of Mingli Lake, there was a mountain.

It was the only mountain on campus.

Legend had it that the mountain wasn’t originally there. It was formed from the earth excavated to create the lake, and over time, it became a small, thirty-meter-tall hill. The university president himself named it ’Mingli Mountain’ in the hope that students would learn the value of propriety.

Mingli Lake was named for its proximity to the mountain.

Unfortunately, it had become a place for students and faculty to go on dates or for friends to have heart-to-hearts.

Many couples climbed the stone steps to whisper sweet nothings in the mid-mountain pavilion, while others ascended to the peak to gaze at the campus nightscape.

Although it was technically still winter, global warming had gotten more severe over the years. By the time early March rolled around, it wasn’t cold at all anymore.

Tonight, because the semester had just begun, many students were out partying or having fun, so there were very few people on Mingli Mountain.

Wang Quanzhi walked all the way to the summit and saw only a few figures.

’The view from here is pretty good. I could bring Xia Yu here on a date sometime.’

He gazed into the distance, feeling a sense of expansiveness.

While he had someone looking into Xia Yu’s roommates for him, he had made his way to Huayang University of Technology to wander around and get familiar with the lay of the land.

DING-DONG.

A message notification chimed.

’Guan Xiaorou?’

Wang Quanzhi quickly checked his phone, his eyes lighting up. ’Xia Yu is jogging at the Second Stadium?’

’I can see the stadium perfectly from here!’

’What a coincidence!’

He hurriedly looked over.

In recent days, he had participated in several Mist Events, which had greatly improved his physical fitness. His eyesight was far better than an ordinary person’s, so he could clearly see the situation inside the Second Stadium.

But after watching for a while...

He couldn’t see the beautiful girl anywhere.

’This roommate, Guan Xiaorou, isn’t very reliable.’

Wang Quanzhi frowned. He then saw the second message Guan Xiaorou had sent: ”Yu has been running for over an hour. I don’t know if she’s left the stadium or not.”

’People who send messages like that are the most annoying,’ Wang Quanzhi thought. His gaze shifted as he scanned other areas, continuing his search for Xia Yu.

More than ten minutes later, he still hadn’t found anything.

Just then, two men walked over, holding hands and murmuring to each other. ”Xiangxiang, don’t cry. I’m here. I’ll always be with you.”

”Brother Chao, my family is too old-fashioned. They won’t approve of us being together. What are we going to do? SOB... I don’t want to leave you. I want to be with you forever.”

”Let’s take it slow. I’ll work hard to prove I’m better than any of those women. Maybe then your parents will come around.”

”SOB... Brother Chao, you’re the best.”

Hearing this, the corner of Wang Quanzhi’s mouth twitched, and goosebumps broke out all over his body.

He could accept women being together, but he couldn’t accept men.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he turned to leave.

But after descending a dozen or so steps, he heard a strange noise from the woods on the mountain. ’Don’t tell me there are wild animals in here?’

The mountain was small, but it was covered in trees, grass, and scattered rocks, making it impossible to traverse. You could only walk along the steps.

Wang Quanzhi didn’t pay it much mind and continued down the mountain, though he found it a bit strange. ’If there really are wild dogs or something, shouldn’t the university do something about it? Aren’t they afraid students will get bitten?’

The moment he thought that...

”AHH!”

A blood-curdling scream echoed from the summit. ”Monster... Ah... Ugh...”

Then, the voice stopped abruptly.

’It’s that couple!’

Wang Quanzhi instantly identified them by the source and tone of the voice. His expression changed in a flash. He whipped out his military dagger and charged back toward the summit.

And then...

By the moonlight, he saw bloodstains on the ground and drag marks.

’They were dragged in.’

Wang Quanzhi stared at the thorn-covered, pitch-black mountainside, where he couldn’t see a thing. His expression was wary and grim. ’What kind of beast could kill two men so quickly?’

’They didn’t even have a chance to fight back.’

He hesitated for a moment but still stepped inside cautiously.

’Maybe those two men aren’t dead yet?’

’But if I delay too long, they’ll surely die.’

「At the foot of the mountain.」

Xia Yu, who had just been about to climb the mountain to check things out, heard the scream from the summit.

The people around her couldn’t hear it clearly, but she heard it as plain as day!

’That Red-eyed Lizard is on the summit!’
