I Return From Hell

Chapter 172: Chapter 165: How to Deal With a Holy Mother?

Xia Yu saw Ai Cao through her binoculars the moment she got off the helicopter.

She just didn’t know what Ai Cao and Little Nannan had said to each other.

She wasn’t particularly surprised by Ai Cao’s arrival. In fact... she didn’t really care.

She had her own plans. ’As long as they’re not affected, who cares who you are?’

What did surprise her, however, was that Ai Cao hadn’t revealed her identity to her superiors.

Of course, this didn’t affect her much anymore. It just served as further proof that Ai Cao was a person of decent character.

’Too bad she’s a bit of a Holy Mother.’

Holy Mothers.

’You either kill them or stay far away from them.’

In any case, Xia Yu would never recruit someone like that for her team.

”Go on.”

She gently patted Little Nannan’s head and said, ”Go with Xie Shaokun and Hong She to corner and kill the Red-eyed Lizard.”

”And be careful.”

”Okay.”

”Goodbye, Big Sister.”

Little Nannan turned and left.

She was still thinking about what Big Sister had said.

Despite her young age, she had participated in one Mist Event after another lately. She was becoming increasingly aware of her own weakness, realizing she truly lacked the ability to worry about too many other people.

She had also witnessed the darkness of human nature.

She realized that many people weren’t worth saving.

Saving them would only put her in harm’s way, and she didn’t have the ability to distinguish good from evil.

So...

The best thing to do was to follow in Big Sister’s footsteps and keep growing.

Her strength needed to grow!

Her character and judgment needed to grow, too!

’I’ll think about what choices to make when I’ve truly grown up.’

’Right now, I don’t have the right to choose.’

’I just need to focus on surviving for now.’

Having come to this realization, Little Nannan felt a weight lift from her shoulders.

When she stood with Ai Cao again, she didn’t feel the least bit inferior.

She had become more confident.

Ai Cao noticed this change as well. She was a little surprised, unable to understand what Little Nannan had just gone through.

Soon, a call came from Zhao Guohui.

”Two bodies found, looks like they were gnawed on by some animal.”

”Get to the scene immediately.”

Everyone moved out at once.

「Meanwhile.」

Xia Yu returned home in a cheerful mood.

The Red-eyed Lizard was incredibly strong. The damage would be immense if it slipped into the city. Xia Yu didn’t care if other people lived or died, but she couldn’t ignore her own brother’s safety.

So, she went straight to Xia Tian.

Today was the first day of school for Xia Yu.

As they had agreed, Xia Tian had taken the day off to see his sister to school, so he was at home.

CREAK.

Xia Yu pushed the door open and walked in.

”Sis.”

”Where were you? Why are you only back now?”

Xia Tian asked.

”There aren’t any classes for the first two days of the semester,” Xia Yu said. ”What’s the rush?”

”We’re not going to school today.”

Xia Tian was taken aback. ”Huh? Why not?”

”I’m not in the mood.”

Xia Yu’s reasons were always so refreshingly unusual.

In reality, she didn’t feel safe letting Xia Tian go to Huayang University of Technology. Based on information from her previous life, she inferred it was very likely the Red-eyed Lizard’s territory.

’I’ll be there, sure, but what if Xia Tian has to use the restroom?’

’We’d be separated, right?’

’What if the Red-eyed Lizard attacks Xia Tian during those few minutes we’re apart?’

So...

’Staying home is the best choice.’

With that, Xia Yu meticulously checked the entire house.

Xia Tian was completely baffled.

”Sis, what are you doing?” he asked. ”Are you looking for something?”

”Yeah.”

Xia Yu nodded.

”Want me to help you look?”

”You won’t find it.”

”What is it? I clean the house all the time, how could I not find it?”

”I said you won’t find it, so you won’t find it.”

”...”

Xia Tian found it even stranger.

After confirming the house was free of any Red-eyed Lizards, Xia Yu shut the doors and windows tight. Then she sat on the sofa and pulled Xia Tian over to play a card game with her.

Xia Tian was completely bewildered, but his sister wasn’t saying anything, so he could only play along in silence.

By the end of it, he was convinced they weren’t going to school today at all.

RING RING RING.

Xia Yu answered a call.

After she hung up, she swept the cards on the table into a mess and announced, ”Let’s go. We’re going to school.”

Xia Tian: ”...”

He suspected his sister had done it on purpose, since she was about to lose the game!

”Sis,” he couldn’t help but ask. ”What’s the reason we can go to school now?”

”I’m suddenly in a good mood,” Xia Yu said.

The corner of Xia Tian’s mouth twitched.

’You’re the big sister. You’re the boss.’

”Wait a second.”

”Sis, this is your back-to-school present.”

Seeing that his sister was serious about going to school, Xia Tian took out a laptop. It was from a domestic brand, with a touchscreen and high-end specs. ”Your old laptop is four years old, you’ve dropped it once, and it’s always crashing or getting the blue screen of death.”

”It was long past time for a replacement.”

???

Xia Yu was stunned. She clearly hadn’t expected Little Tian to have this surprise planned. She stared at the laptop—which cost nearly ten thousand yuan but would be practically useless in the Apocalypse—and was silent for a moment.

”Thank you, Little Tian.”

Then, she broke into a happy smile. ”I love this gift. It’s just...”

Her tone shifted, her expression turning stern as if she were conducting an interrogation. ”Where did you get this much money?”

”Spit it out!”

It had to be said, she was a good actress.

Xia Tian didn’t notice anything unusual and confessed, ”My allowance.”

”I haven’t really spent much over the years, so I saved up a lot. It was just enough to buy this.”

With Mist Events breaking out constantly, he was perfectly aware that laptops would probably become less and less useful in the future.

But that didn’t stop him from buying it.

It wasn’t because he didn’t care about the ten thousand yuan.

It was because...

His sister desperately needed a laptop but was too frugal to buy a new one. She always had to either borrow his computer or use her own frustratingly inefficient one.

He was sure his sister would love it if he bought it for her.

So, he bought it.

”You’re a very thoughtful little brother.”

”Your big sister loves it.”

Xia Yu put the laptop away. ”This is perfect,” she said. ”I’ll need a laptop for my upcoming internship, and for work after I graduate.”

”It’s very practical.”

At her words, Xia Tian nodded, pretending to agree.

”As long as you like it, Sis.”

”Let’s go. I’ll walk you to school and take a look around your campus,” he said.

”My school sucks. There’s nothing to see,” Xia Yu said with a look of disdain.

”I’ve noticed a lot of people seem to hate their own schools. What’s that about?” Xia Tian asked.

Xia Yu said, ”I don’t know about other people, but my school really is nothing special.”

Xia Tian nodded. ”You’re right, it’s not that great.”

Xia Yu: ”...”

”Haha.”

It was a rare sight to see his sister flustered, and Xia Tian burst out laughing.

The moment between the brother and sister was as warm as ever.

It was heartwarming.

For a moment, a warmth spread through Xia Yu’s heart as she savored the time they had together.
