I Return From Hell

Chapter 171: Chapter 164: Blood Spirit Gu in Hand, Who to Control?

In front of the police station.

Xie Shaokun and the others were waiting in the car.

Xia Yu, however, was lying in wait in the shadows.

Xie Shaokun and the others were a little confused. Why were they waiting here instead of immediately helping Zhao Guohui’s group? Still, no one asked why, because they knew Yu must have her reasons.

Another half hour or so passed.

A helicopter landed directly inside the police station compound.

”Little Nannan.”

Just then, Xia Yu received a text message. ’The Blood Spirit Gu is here.’ Her brow twitched slightly. She gave Little Nannan an order: ”Go get the Blood Spirit Gu from them and bring it to me.”

”Yes, Big Sister.”

Little Nannan pushed the car door open and got out.

But...

What Little Nannan hadn’t expected was that one of the people getting off the helicopter was actually Ai Cao!

”Sister Xiao Ai, it’s you?”

She walked closer, her voice filled with surprise.

”The situation is urgent and we’re short-handed. There was no time for me to get stronger through the usual step-by-step process.”

Ai Cao explained, her gaze complex as she looked at Little Nannan.

While training at the camp, she had also learned some information about Xia Yu’s team, so she didn’t hide anything from Little Nannan now.

”Oh.”

Little Nannan’s face showed her understanding. ”So that’s why,” she said with a nod.

”Where are the others?”

Ai Cao asked, ”Why are you the only one here?”

”I don’t know.”

”My mission is to get the Blood Spirit Gu from you.”

Little Nannan had a vague idea of what Yu was planning, but she pretended to be clueless.

’She’s still so cautious and selfish, all for the sake of her own survival.’

’She has no regard for the lives of ordinary people.’

A trace of mockery flashed in Ai Cao’s eyes. She handed the Blood Spirit Gu to Little Nannan without hesitation and said, ”Give this to your captain, and tell her...”

”Thank you for saving my life back then.”

”I owe her my life. I’ve never forgotten that.”

”Also, I haven’t told my superiors anything about her.”

???

Little Nannan was hit with so much information at once that she couldn’t process it all. She didn’t snap out of it until she had walked out of the police station.

She could sense that Ai Cao was passionate and full of fighting spirit, with the well-being of all people in her heart. She was a lot like Brother Kun used to be—no! Brother Kun couldn’t even compare to her. He wasn’t even in the same league.

She had to admit, Ai Cao was more admirable.

But...

’Can she really save everyone?’

[Over ten minutes later.]

After confirming that Little Nannan wasn’t being followed, Xia Yu called her and guided her to her location.

The Blood Spirit Gu!

Taking the Jade Box, Xia Yu’s eyes lit up, and she opened it without hesitation.

Inside was a Gu Worm with a rather transparent body.

Its shape was quite peculiar. It had no legs, no hair, no shell, and no antennae... It looked almost exactly like a thumb, but was only the size of a thumbnail.

It had a single, pure black eye that took up more than half of its body.

Just staring straight at you.

It was incredibly bizarre.

And unsettlingly creepy.

However, in Xia Yu’s eyes, the creature was utterly adorable.

SLICE.

The Blood Butterfly danced, and the pad of her finger was cut. A drop of blood landed on the Blood Spirit Gu’s eye.

Instantly, the Blood Spirit Gu’s body was dyed blood-red. If not for its single eye, it would have looked just like a ball of congealed blood. When the Jade Box was gently shaken, the creature’s body quivered constantly, looking as if it might fall apart at any moment.

This fascinating reaction irresistibly drew your full attention to it.

Moreover, as Xia Yu continued to let her blood drip, the transformation continued.

Gradually, it began to look more and more like a large drop of blood. Its single eye also slowly turned blood-red, blending in with its body. If you didn’t look closely, you couldn’t even tell that the Blood Spirit Gu still had an eye!

!!!

Little Nannan watched this scene, astonished and a little frightened. She exclaimed, ”This... this is incredible!”

”It’s done.”

Xia Yu finally stopped, clearly in a good mood. She explained to Little Nannan, ”You feed the Blood Spirit Gu with your own blood essence to become its master. Then, you have the person you want to control consume it, and you’ll have control over them.”

”Of course, not just anyone can become the Blood Spirit Gu’s master. It has to be fed the blood essence of an expert who is at least in the First Grade Spiritual Ability Realm.”

Little Nannan understood.

At the same time, she realized that she was probably the one who would have to consume this bizarre Blood Spirit Gu.

She fought back her disgust, and was just about to speak when...

”Yu.”

Just then, Hong She strode over.

”Hong She.”

”Let it enter your bloodstream.”

Xia Yu didn’t waste words, handing the Jade Box with the Blood Spirit Gu to Hong She. ”From now on, you’re one of us.”

Little Nannan: ”???”

Hong She glanced at the Blood Spirit Gu in the Jade Box. Without a hint of hesitation or a single question, he pricked his finger and brought it close to the Gu Worm.

The moment they made contact, the Blood Spirit Gu vanished.

Hong She felt the single Blood Spirit Gu split into thousands of minuscule copies of itself, which then swam through his bloodstream to every part of his body.

It was as if it now existed in every part of him.

Even more strangely, he felt his connection with Xia Yu deepen. Or perhaps, it was more like he felt closer to her.

He knew he was being controlled!

Controlled by Xia Yu!

”Thank you, Yu, for granting me the Blood Spirit Gu,” Hong She said. ”This allows me to truly become a part of the team.”

Xia Yu nodded.

Whether Hong She’s words came from the heart was no longer important.

From this moment on, if Hong She ever dared to betray her, all it would take was a single thought from her to make all the blood in his body instantly combust until it was completely burned away.

”Yu.”

”Wasn’t the Blood Spirit Gu for me?”

Little Nannan finally couldn’t contain her curiosity and asked.

Hearing this, Hong She knew this was not the time for him to be there. ”Yu, I’ll be heading back now,” he said.

”Mm.”

Xia Yu nodded. After Hong She had left, she explained, ”Compared to him...”

”I trust you more.”

’A man like Hong She is too good at weighing risks and rewards. This was the only way she could truly trust him.’

”Mm.”

Little Nannan was touched. She then relayed what Ai Cao had said to Xia Yu before asking, ”Big Sister, is Sister Xiao Ai’s choice the right one, or is ours?”

Xia Yu’s expression was calm.

’When the Apocalypse began, everyone had to make a choice: the kind of person they would be, and the way they would choose to survive.’

’She respected everyone’s choice.’

’But...’

’No one could ever hope to change hers.’

”In this world, there isn’t so much right and wrong.”

Xia Yu said lightly, ”It’s just that everyone’s experiences and understandings are different, so they make different choices in the same situation.”

”You just need to remember this.”

”You can only make a difference if you’re alive.”

”Once you’re dead, everything is over.”
