The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 696: Chapter 283 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 27)

”Mom, I can’t bear to leave you!”

Feng Yanting felt some resistance to going to the Marquis Mansion.

He was not particularly arrogant or self-restrained; he simply did not know how to face Marquis Pingnan and Mrs. Zhang among others.

Although He Tiantian had said that ”the matter of the child swap still needs to be investigated,” Feng Yanting understood very well that he was most likely the blood of the Marquis Mansion.

It was only this way that some things he found absurd in the past could be explained.

For example, when he was young, Mrs. Zhang loved him more, even Wei Yuanniang, the Eldest Miss, had to give way to him.

And in recent years, Mrs. Zhang had always been ”overstepping” to discipline him, blindly implementing family rules.

It was not because Mrs. Zhang really liked a servant’s child or liked to meddle, but because he, Feng Yanting, was Mrs. Zhang’s own flesh and blood.

But... Feng Yanting felt extremely awkward and even harbored some resentment towards Mrs. Zhang.

Fool!

What a damned fool!

Just because she feared her son would be sent to Capital City as a hostage, she had secretly plotted with a trusted nanny, covertly swapping the bloodline of the Marquis Mansion.

Did she really not know that this was a crime of deceiving the monarch? That once exposed, it would implicate the entire Marquis Mansion?

Also, was it really for his benefit to raise the legitimate eldest son of the Marquis Mansion in the home of an old servant?

Separated from his real parents, he could not receive the elite education meant for the heir of the Marquis Mansion.

Even if they found a scapegoat in the future to keep the Marquis Mansion out of trouble and return the child to his rightful place, could everything truly be peaceful and settled?

Not to mention anything else, just the lack of affection between Marquis Pingnan and Feng Yanting, the legitimate father and son, was enough to affect his status and future prospects in the Marquis Mansion.

Feng Yanting was not making wild assumptions; these things had already happened.

For example, at this moment, bidding farewell to his foster mother with great reluctance, he sat in the carriage heading back to the Marquis Mansion, his thoughts in turmoil.

Mrs. Zhang was a bit better, regardless of affection or dislike, there had always been communication over the years.

And Feng Yanting was willing to bet that Mrs. Zhang would definitely treat him as her own son, because he was her only hope and support.

But what about Marquis Pingnan?

Not to mention Marquis Pingnan’s unfamiliarity with Feng Yanting, Feng Yanting himself felt very estranged from Marquis Pingnan.

Throughout his childhood, Feng Yanting had almost never spent time alone with Marquis Pingnan.

Mrs. Zhang often boasted to him, claiming how astute and valiant Marquis Pingnan was, unparalleled in loyalty and bravery.

Nanny Zhao also helped embellish this by praising that the Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion had been wealthy and powerful for generations, and the men of the mansion were all good sons who protected Weiguo.

Feng Yanting was fascinated by this, yet he only saw Marquis Pingnan as a character from a legend.

But now, someone had told him that this remarkable figure was none other than his own biological father.

And the Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, possessing over a hundred years of glorious history and abundant wealth and power, he, Feng Yanting, was the most legitimate heir!

This... was too unreal!

In the most unreliable dreams Feng Yanting had ever had, there had never been such a fantasy.

However, as the male lead, Feng Yanting had a resilient and intelligent nature.

After hearing such ”truths,” despite a brief moment of panic and helplessness, he quickly steadied his mind and had the ability to adapt to circumstances.

However, the more he accepted his identity and speculated about the past truths, the more he felt like cursing!

His foolish yet presumptuously smart biological mother, the self-proclaimed loyal yet selfish and indifferent Nanny Zhao; this pair of servant and master had pushed him into a difficult position under the guise of ”protection.”

Back when he was in the humble courtyard of the Feng Family, just one Shuang Jiang and three concubine children were enough to unsettle the family home.

Feng Yanting had used many schemes and tactics to compete for resources against those people.

What about Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion?

It was a hundred times more prestigious than the Feng Family, a thousand times more complicated.

The interests and conflicts involved were beyond what someone like Feng Yanting, who had never lived among the powerful elites, could imagine.

Previously, Feng Yanting felt he had no connection with Marquis Pingnan, but after Marquis Pingnan returned to Capital City, he still heard many rumors about him.

Among them, the most noteworthy was that Marquis Pingnan had taken another wife during his disappearance and had fathered two sons.

Although now that Barbarian tribe woman had demoted herself to a concubine, and the two sons had become Concubine Sons,

Feng Yanting was willing to bet, in the heart of Marquis Pingnan, those two sons who had been by his side from the start definitely weighed more than him, the nominal ”legitimate eldest son.”
