The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 670: Chapter 269 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 13)

Shuang Jiang was Mrs. Zhang’s most trusted personal maid, and even when Mrs. Zhang herself needed to be redeemed, she did not forget to bring her along.

This sufficiently demonstrated Mrs. Zhang’s affection for and value in Shuang Jiang.

At the age of sixteen or seventeen, with a delicate and prominent appearance, and a thorough and meticulous temperament, if this were during the heyday of the Marquis Mansion, not to mention taking Shuang Jiang as a concubine, even marrying her as the rightful wife would have been impossible for Feng Zhongliang.

It wasn’t that the two were ill-matched; rather, it was unnecessary.

With Nanny Zhao, such an extraordinary loyal servant, the entire Feng Family would be loyal to Mrs. Zhang; it was utterly needless to waste such an excellent chess piece.

In fact, Mrs. Zhang had originally planned to marry Shuang Jiang to the son of the Marquis Mansion’s head steward.

In doing so, not only could she provide Shuang Jiang with a decent status, but also win over the hereditary servants of the Marquis Mansion.

The head steward himself was also interested and had his eye on Shuang Jiang.

But just at this time, disaster struck the Marquis Mansion, and the steward’s family was sold; their whole household was split apart, and Mrs. Zhang didn’t even know who had bought them.

Now, Mrs. Zhang and her company all relied on the Feng Family for support, and Feng Zhongliang was the head of the household.

Originally, Feng Zhongliang had always been very obedient, and Mrs. Zhang had not thought to use the method of giving away a woman to control him.

But somehow, on the journey to the capital while under escort, in just the short span of two months, Feng Zhongliang had been charmed away by Gu Xiuniang.

He heeded everything arranged by Gu Xiuniang, even occasionally daring to show reluctance when following orders from his own mother, Nanny Zhao.

”Truly a case of ’Marrying a wife and forgetting one’s mother!’ This rascal has been completely bewitched by that fool Mrs. Gu!”

Nanny Zhao was used to being authoritative in front of her son and accustomed to arranging everything.

Coming out of the Heavenly Prison, she was shocked and furious to suddenly find her son changed.

What unsettled Nanny Zhao even more was that the family’s breadwinner had become Gu Xiuniang, and Feng Zhongliang seemed to lose stature in front of her.

As the mother-in-law, Nanny Zhao felt she had even less right to ”discipline” her daughter-in-law.

How could this be?

If it were just their own small family, with a dominant daughter-in-law, Nanny Zhao could barely endure it.

But the problem was, there was also Mrs. Zhang and her group.

In the past, when Nanny Zhao told Feng Zhongliang to use up the family’s fortune to save Mrs. Zhang and everyone at the Marquis Mansion, Feng Zhongliang would faithfully do as instructed.

Yet, some days ago, when Nanny Zhao accompanied Mrs. Zhang out of jail, hoping for a spacious place to live, Feng Zhongliang hesitated, claiming, ”We have no money.”

Humph, what ”no money”?

It was all Gu Xiuniang’s behind-the-scenes instigation!

She was trying to intimidate Nanny Zhao, wanting to signal that the mistress of the Feng Family was her, Gu Xiuniang.

Feng Zhongliang had also transformed from a dutiful son who listened to his mother to a pathetic hen-pecked husband!

Nanny Zhao would never allow Gu Xiuniang to rebel, and she couldn’t tolerate Gu Xiuniang using Mrs. Zhang’s matter as a ruse, showing insufficient respect to Mrs. Zhang.

Although the Feng Family (including Mrs. Zhang and others) now depended on Gu Xiuniang’s embroidery for their livelihood, Gu Xiuniang was after all just a daughter-in-law.

A mother-in-law wishing to control a daughter-in-law, regardless of the latter’s abilities, could always find a way.

And the most direct and effective method was to plant a woman in her son’s life, creating rifts in his marital relationship.

Then, Nanny Zhao could smoothly pull her son back to her side!

As for Gu Xiuniang?

If she was capable and could earn money, then she might as well work herself to the bone for the Feng Family!

”...Well, Shuang Jiang has a clever temperament; she should be able to serve Zhongliang well!”

To be honest, judging Feng Zhongliang solely on his ability, Mrs. Zhang had some contempt for him.

The man was too dull, too obtuse.

In the past, Mrs. Zhang rated Feng Zhongliang highly mainly because of Nanny Zhao.

But now... Alas, times have truly changed; she, the high and mighty Marchioness, actually had to rely on a beauty trap to win over an oaf!

Mrs. Zhang felt a touch of melancholy in her heart.

”You’re all bad people! Every single one of you!”

Feng Yanting, who had been eavesdropping outside the door, didn’t understand what it meant to have Shuang Jiang serve Feng Zhongliang.

But he was smart, after all, knowing how to listen and interpret.

From the tone of Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao’s conversation, he could sense that what they were discussing was certainly a scheme against his own mother.

With his lips tightly pursed, Feng Yanting furiously cursed ”bad people” a few times before hurrying back to parrot the information to his own mother.

He Tiantian, having listened to Feng Yanting’s vexed recounting, was not too surprised but merely arched her brow slightly.

Planting a woman?

That truly lacked originality.
