The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 654: Chapter 263 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 7)_3

”They’re taking issue with it,” they thought, believing it was inappropriate for them to be called ”from the Feng Family.”

Although the title ”from the Feng Family” bore no insulting connotation, it did carry a touch of casualness.

Just like those old women in the Marquis Mansion who were basically addressed as ”someone from XX’s family.”

But ”Gu Xiuniang” was not one of the Marquis Mansion’s servants.

Even though her mother-in-law worked in the Marquis Mansion, she had her own standing in the outside world.

Not to mention, now that the Marquis Mansion had fallen into trouble, noblewomen like the Second and Third Madams were worse off than ordinary folks.

Bearing the mark of crime, yet still so dismissively referring to a ”wealthy lady” as ”from the Feng Family,” no wonder the latter was displeased.

But, but...

While the Second and Third Madams were blushing with anger, a surge of resentment welled up within them.

What a harlot reveling in her newfound status.

Back when she came to the mansion to pay respects, why didn’t she pick a fight then?

Now that the Marquis Mansion was being prosecuted, this servant who had lost her household registration dares to show off?!

However, before the Second and Third Madams could react, He Tiantian seemed to remember something and covered her mouth with a light chuckle, ”What the two noble ladies just said was also rather inappropriate.”

”My family’s mother-in-law serves by the Marchioness’s side, and our Feng Family owes a great debt of gratitude to the Marchioness, so much so that we would even wrong our own flesh and blood to properly look after the lady’s only daughter!”

Just at that moment, a group of people was passing by on an uphill road.

Feng Zhongliang was far too obedient to his own mother; when Nanny Zhao asked him to buy a rundown carriage, he really did purchase an old horse and a broken-down carriage.

No carriage box, just a canopy; the brokenness of the carriage was not really the issue.

The problem was that the horse was too old.

On flat ground, it wasn’t too much trouble, but once there was an uphill stretch or it got stuck in a mud pit, relying solely on the horse’s strength simply wouldn’t do.

When that happened, everyone in the carriage had to jump out, even if not to help push, at least to lighten the carriage’s load.

In the past, the original Gu Xiuniang, out of concern for her son, would always get out of the carriage and leave her son inside.

But now—

He Tiantian gently placed Wei Yuanniang on the carriage bed and wrapped her in blankets.

She herself then jumped down from the carriage and called to Feng Yanting, ”Come, Yanting, get down and help Daddy push the carriage with Mom!”

Even though Feng Yanting was a bit surprised, he was sensible.

He obediently nodded his head and with He Tiantian’s help, carefully got down, then joined her in pushing the carriage.

Seeing this scene, both the Second and Third Madams had no choice but to shut their mouths.

What more could they say?

Nanny Zhao’s son and daughter-in-law, just like Nanny Zhao, were Mrs. Zhang’s staunch lackeys—no, loyal servants.

To look after the benefactor’s daughter, they would not hesitate to wrong their own blood.

Not to mention noblewomen like the Second and Third Madams who had nothing to do with the Feng or Gu Families.

The Second and Third Madams could see clearly and even understood to some extent.

But deep down, they felt indignant.

Pulling their kids along, they made their way back to the main group and intentionally squeezed next to Mrs. Zhang.

The Second Madam said sourly, ”It’s no wonder you’re the elder sister-in-law, such a distinguished First-rank Marquis’s wife, the people you’ve trained are indeed considerate.”

The Third Madam quickly chimed in, ”Absolutely, it’s nothing for them to be busy working hard, but for your sake, Madam, for the sole heir of your household, they don’t even care about their own flesh and blood!”

”Oh my, in the past people always said we couldn’t compare to you, Elder Sister-in-law, and today it seems we truly can’t!”

”That’s right, Elder Sister-in-law, with your formidable skills, please teach us more in the future and we hope you can provide more assistance to our second and third branches!”

Mrs. Zhang:... Her eyes almost burst with rage.

What a wretch Gu Xiuniang dared to be!

She actually made my Yanting leave the carriage to let your dead girl lie in it.

And you expect my son to push the cart for your daughter?!

You, You!

Mrs. Zhang clenched her fists tightly, leaving several crescent-shaped indentations on her palms from her nails.

However, with the Second and Third Madams right there, Mrs. Zhang could not dare to show an iota of her rage, no matter how infuriated she was inside.

She had to feign calm and pull a smile, apologizing to the two, ”They are all coarse and uneducated, if they offended you two younger sisters, please don’t take it to heart!”

”Oh my, in the future we will still rely on Uncle Feng and the lady to take care of us, how dare we take offense against them?”

The Second and Third Madams continued to sarcastically needle people.

After getting at Mrs. Zhang, the Second Madam turned her gaze toward Nanny Zhao, ”Nanny Zhao, you’re so fortunate, to have raised such a fine son and have gotten such a good daughter-in-law!”

Nanny Zhao:...

She glanced at He Tiantian by her side, leading Feng Yanting to push the cart, and then sneakily glanced at Mrs. Zhang’s cold face.

Suddenly, she finally understood that feeling of unease.

Gu Xiuniang taking Wei Yuanniang to sit in the carriage was by no means a trivial matter, nor was it about satisfying everyone.

It was about seriously challenging Mrs. Zhang’s authority, about upending the social hierarchy!
