The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 672: Chapter 269 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Part 13)_3

That evening, Feng Zhongliang went to the small cottage in Shuang Jiang.

He Tiantian, meanwhile, with Wei Yuanniang in the main house, soothed the child to sleep and then sat under the dim yellow oil lamp working on her embroidery.

Feng Yanting, who had already separated from his parents’ sleeping quarters and had his own little room, got up during the night and witnessed this scene—

On one side, his own father was enthusiastically engaged in his wedding night with Shuang Jiang.

On the other, his own mother was alone in her room, yet she spent entire nights doing embroidery to earn money.

Feng Yanting was still young, not understanding much of adult matters, but he just felt uncomfortable.

Then, the image became clearly and deeply etched into his mind.

The arrival of Shuang Jiang completely lured Feng Zhongliang away.

Feng Zhongliang also began to return to the days of obeying his mother’s arrangements.

Towards his wife, Gu Xiuniang, Feng Zhongliang felt guilt and pity, but with Shuang Jiang whispering in his ear and Nanny Zhao’s instigation,

Coupled with Gu Xiuniang being the breadwinner, Feng Zhongliang, as a man, suddenly found himself the disgrace of a man living off a woman.

This excessive inferiority caused him to suddenly develop a twisted mentality to ”suppress Gu Xiuniang in other ways.”

Of course, Feng Zhongliang didn’t dare to go too far—he was honest and timid.

The only way he could think of to suppress and control his wife was to avoid her room and spend all day with Shuang Jiang.

He Tiantian: ...Thanks, Mother was just worrying about how to keep sleeping in separate beds from you.

Agreeing to let Shuang Jiang attend to Feng Zhongliang was also for this reason.

While on the mission, He Tiantian could accept the original host’s life, but she truly didn’t want to engage in relations with ”someone else’s spouse.”

In the past, He Tiantian would always use some tricks to avoid sleeping with the other party by any means necessary.

But this time, she had come to the ancient world—well, that was even simpler, just agree to let the ”husband” sleep with another woman!

He Tiantian wouldn’t actively play matchmaker, but why not go with the flow if it could solve her own problems and even help her earn the reputation of being ”virtuous”?

However, all these were He Tiantian’s secret plans; she didn’t show a trace of it outwardly.

In the face of Shuang Jiang’s favoritism and Feng Zhongliang’s ”change of heart,” He Tiantian appeared to be very heartbroken.

But for the ”son” and for the child of her benefactor, she chose not to divorce Feng Zhongliang. Instead, she continued to embroider desperately for money, sustaining two families with her own flesh and blood.

”Mom, this is too much for you!”

As Feng Yanting grew older day by day, read more books, and gradually came to understand some principles.

At least, he was now able to empathize with his mother’s hardships and grievances.

”My son being able to say such things shows that Mom’s hardships have not been in vain.”

”For my son, Mom does not feel wronged!”

He Tiantian smiled and comforted Feng Yanting.

Feng Yanting nodded vigorously, ”Mom, rest assured, I will study hard, pass the imperial examinations, become a high official, and earn an imperial decree for you!”

His appreciation for his mother’s sacrifices grew stronger, and at the same time, his resentment towards those in the neighboring courtyard, including his own father, Feng Yanting, also increased.

And Feng Yanting’s resentment towards Feng Zhongliang slowly reached its peak after Shuang Jiang successively gave birth to three children.

Shuang Jiang bore Feng Zhongliang two sons and one daughter.

Although the sons were five years younger than Feng Yanting, with the presence of the Concubine Sons, Feng Yanting was no longer the sole heir.

Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao naturally continued to favor Feng Yanting as before, but in Feng Zhongliang’s eyes, all three sons were his seeds.

And since Shuang Jiang was the woman he loved, love me, love my dog; he was even more affectionate with his two sons born from the concubine.

As soon as the children turned one month old, he would start grand celebrations.

In the days that followed, Feng Zhongliang doted on the two Concubine Sons incredibly, with a trend that might even surpass Feng Yanting.

Even Mrs. Zhang and Nanny Zhao, seeing Shuang Jiang’s face, were more lenient towards the two Concubine Sons and did not chase them away simply because Feng Yanting disliked them.

Feng Yanting: ...

As the two half-brothers slowly grew, Feng Yanting’s sense of crisis grew stronger.

He began to be cunning at home and fake sincerity with Mrs. Zhang, Nanny Zhao, and others.

The Feng Family was just two shabby courtyards but staged a grand drama of house fights.

Feng Yanting experienced much more of the treacheries of the human world than in the original script, becoming increasingly scheming and calculating.

However, Feng Yanting did not turn evil but became more realistic, not as perfect as the original character design.

Actually, an overly perfect character design is more prone to collapse.

Even if it is not the character themselves who slips up, others or other slightly off details can lead to dragging the plot down.

The original script had this issue, which is why the readers felt displeased when reading, leading the system to have to employ a writer.

This time, with He Tiantian’s efforts, Feng Yanting’s character did not collapse but gained some more realistic elements.

Perhaps not as perfect, but it made the plot more reasonable, and the readers could feel more empathy.

Of course, the male lead and such were not the focus of He Tiantian’s concern—redeeming Wei Yuanniang was her main mission...
