Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 923: Chapter 922: Black Cat’s Resolve

The twenty-fifth level lord was defeated by Fang Zheng and the others without any danger. Although they ultimately won, Fang Zheng discovered a significant problem.

That is the current power balance within the Raid Group.

If the entire Raid Group of the Dark Moon Sword is compared to a game character, then this character’s attack is ranked A, agility is A, while defense is approximately at C—this is entirely supported by Seven Seas and Aoba. If these two are absent, the defense rank of the Raid Group would only be D.

To put it bluntly, the current issue for the Raid Group is high attack and high agility but low defense. They don’t have to worry much about single-target attacks, but issues arise when encountering continuous AOE attacks.

However, solving this problem is equally challenging.

This doesn’t mean having Asuna and the others hold a shield will solve everything. They didn’t use shields previously not for showing off but because it allows faster reactions. After all, holding a shield obstructs vision and changes the balance of the center of gravity, which is an important issue for the likes of Asuna, Yuki, and Black Cat, who rely on speed.

The only choice Fang Zheng has now is to increase the number of Raid Group members, but controlling MT numbers isn’t easy either...

”Knock, knock, knock.”

While Fang Zheng was contemplating, a sudden knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. Fang Zheng looked up towards the door.

”Come in.”

Soon, the door opened, and Black Cat cautiously stepped inside.

”Mr. Fang Zheng? I’m not bothering you, am I?”

”No, Black Cat, what’s up?”

Fang Zheng didn’t think Black Cat was here to express gratitude for the previous raid battle. They’ve been in this game for almost six months and have experienced countless battles of life and death. Everyone has protected each other, so bringing this up again feels insincere.

”Well.......”

Upon hearing Fang Zheng’s question, Black Cat hesitated for a while, her eyes constantly darting around as if lost in thought. Fang Zheng did not rush her and just watched the girl before him until Black Cat finally made up her mind and spoke.

”Um... I wanted to ask about what you mentioned before, about me becoming an MT...”

”That matter?”

Upon hearing this, Fang Zheng was momentarily stunned, but quickly recalled what Black Cat was referring to. It was back when Black Cat had just joined, and Fang Zheng saw promise in her reactions and overall perspective, thus hoping she would become an MT. However, Black Cat was clearly uninterested at the time, and as they hadn’t encountered any excessively challenging enemies, Fang Zheng didn’t broach the subject again but occasionally had Aoba and Seven Seas fill in as MT to solve issues.

He initially thought Black Cat had long forgotten about this matter, yet she remembered.

And now she was bringing it up...

”You want to change your role to MT?”

”...Yes.”

Facing Fang Zheng’s gaze, Black Cat hesitated briefly before nodding.

”May I ask why?”

”......”

This time, Black Cat didn’t immediately answer; instead, she looked at Fang Zheng hesitantly.

”I-I can tell you, but you can’t laugh at me!”

”Alright, I promise I won’t laugh at you.”

”...I’m afraid of dying.”

This time, Black Cat didn’t display her usual chuunibyou demeanor; rather, she lowered her head like a child who made a mistake.

”To be honest, even though I remember I’m in a Death Game, I somehow feel that having fought all the way through, there’s probably no danger. However... the previous lord battle showed that our future enemies will become increasingly powerful. We were lucky this time...”

”......”

Fang Zheng didn’t speak, merely nodding silently. Black Cat, true to her status as a game master, had astutely sensed the problem here. Actually, if it was just the BOSS’s attribute enhancements, Fang Zheng wouldn’t truly worry. However, the BOSS’s final self-detonation wave is what troubles him most. According to the design characteristics of levels, this was only a twenty-fifth level BOSS. Higher levels may have minions self-detonating, and facing such self-detonations means merely relying on reaction and blocking clearly isn’t enough.

”...I was really scared at that time. I genuinely thought I might die. When that thought occurred, I thought of my parents and my little sisters. If they saw me die, they’d be devastated... Moreover, there are others as well. I hope everyone can leave this Death Game safely, but things can’t keep going on like this. We have to make changes.”

Speaking to this point, Black Cat looked up.

”So... I want to protect myself and protect everyone.”

”You’re saying some good things.”

Looking at the girl before him, Fang Zheng smiled slightly, then crossed his hands and leaned back in his chair.

”Since you remember what I said back then, you shouldn’t forget that I once told you if you choose to be an MT, you’re essentially taking on the responsibility of others’ lives.”

”I’ve thought about that, of course.”

At this point, Black Cat puffed up her chest, placed her hand over it, and struck a proud pose.

”But I’ve also figured it out; it’s my destiny, the sad fate of mine in the darkness! If I just keep running away, I’ll only submit to the curse, lost and fallen. But when I break through this fate, I’ll become the Holy Angel White Cat! At that moment, I’ll regain memories of my past life and reclaim the power truly belonging to me!”

Well, still capable of chuunibyou, it looks like there’s really no problem.

Watching Black Cat returning to normal, Fang Zheng’s lip curved slightly, yet soon he pointed out another issue.

”Have you really thought it through? You know if you become an MT, you can’t use the scythe.”

”Uh.......”

Upon hearing this, Black Cat, who had just been proud and smug, suddenly turned pale and staggered back a step... She hadn’t thought about this!

”I really... can’t use it?”

Faced with Black Cat’s reluctant plea, Fang Zheng silently stared at her—What do you think? Which MT wields a giant scythe?

”Uh... This...”

”......”

Watching Black Cat in deep conflict, Fang Zheng felt utterly helpless. Making up one’s mind on sacrificing life itself is manageable, yet hesitating due to changing weapons is dumbfounding to such a degree...

”Can’t be helped, it seems for the world, I must Seal my Pitch Black power...”

Black Cat extended her arm staunchly holding her right hand, acting like she was about to be amputated. Fang Zheng couldn’t stand watching anymore... Understand you’re chuunibyou, but don’t overdo it, you feel awkward even when you don’t feel embarrassed...

”Don’t worry, I’ll forge a new weapon that suits your interest, how about that? Satisfied?”

”Really!?”

Hearing this, the pained expression Black Cat had just worn, as if to be amputated, immediately changed into a smile. Given Fang Zheng’s assurance, Black Cat naturally stopped being conflicted!

”Then I’ll leave it to you, Mr. Fang Zheng!”
