Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

”Disappearance No. 11, Matsumoto Tetsu, your Balance Technology’s Genetic Adjuster.”

Biological Zone 104, an ordinary building, ninth floor.

Jin Ba, Gao Gong, and Kaibao were searching for something in a bedroom.

Because this ’biological disappearance’ was extremely rare, even Jin Ba had no experience handling it, and they could only use the oldest method, visiting the homes of victims one by one, to see if they could find any clues.

However, there weren’t many clues, because these victims had nothing in common, as if they just disappeared randomly.

But the victim they were now investigating was somewhat special—he was an employee of Balance Technology, and also a Genetic Adjuster.

A Genetic Adjuster, a profession exclusive to biological enterprises, responsible for adjusting biological cells. If it were a game, switching to a Genetic Adjuster allows one to concoct genetic potions to gain different types of buffs.

However, Genetic Adjusters are extremely reliant on faction power, meaning that without the various supports provided by large corporations, the potions they create are less effective, a rather ’useless’ profession, far less popular than a Prosthetic Doctor.

Gao Gong wasn’t very interested in him either, because when a Genetic Adjuster reaches full level, the synthesized Professional Knowledge Chain is called ’Life Technology.’

Gao Gong already had this Knowledge Chain for a long time.

What interested him, instead, was Matsumoto Tetsu himself.

As an employee of a giant corporation, he was protected by the Corporate Will, and he was in charge of biological experimentation, logically, he shouldn’t be affected by the Cyber Test Field.

In the bedroom, Jin Ba could be heard complaining, it was clear she was better suited as a warrior than a detective.

”Aren’t you investigating?”

Gao Gong smiled and shook his head, walking to the balcony to feel the breeze.

Kaibao stared at him with wide electronic eyes, curious.

”As a Mechanical Main Brain, all the information in the city is in your head, even you don’t know the reason, how can we possibly investigate it?”

”I believe in human wisdom.”

”I believe more in the power of big data,” Gao Gong shrugged, ”but as a Mechanical Main Brain, you are somewhat surprising to me. I can see you did not lead this experiment.”

”We are just overseers, and in regions with strong biological power, mechanical species should keep a low profile, otherwise, the next to disappear might be me.”

Gao Gong was taken aback, looking at Kaibao, who again gave a cute smile.

Just then, Jin Ba walked out angrily, impatiently saying, ”I’m done looking, no clues at all, what a lame task, let’s just report it as ’biological data’ missing.”

In Nightless City, people are ’artificial data,’ in Liangzhou City, people are ’biological data.’ In the Test Field, people seem inescapably tagged as ’data.’

”What’s that in your hand?” Gao Gong asked, noticing a thick notebook in Jin Ba’s hand.

”A diary the dead guy wrote, there’s quite a bit of company experiment data in it. While it’s not that important, it should still be brought back to the company.”

Seeing Gao Gong’s interest, Jin Ba casually tossed the diary to Gao Gong and added:

”But I’ve already checked, there’s no clue about his disappearance in it.”

”Is that so,” Gao Gong said noncommittally, ”should we head back then?”

”Let’s wait a bit, we just got here, after all. Besides, the main purpose this time is to test the organism I readjusted, I know there are several special arenas, let’s try them later, and you can help me adjust it further.”

At this moment, Jin Ba’s special communication device suddenly rang, and a four-armed strongman appeared in a holographic projection.

Jin Ba’s face changed dramatically, quickly retreating back into the room and closing the door behind her.

Gao Gong could faintly hear arguing from inside.

”...Bring the person back to me!!”

”Boss, what are you talking about, what person?” Jin Ba feigned ignorance.

”Don’t fool me, where’s the Prosthetic Doctor?”

”What doctor? Boss, let me tell you, I am currently executing a special mission. As a special action member of the Throne Department, during mission execution, everything is mission priority, even you, Boss, cannot interfere with my task!”

Hearing such shameless words, Gao Gong couldn’t help but shake his head.

Didn’t you just plan to ditch the task and run away? How come you’re suddenly so proactive?

Seeing that the argument might not end anytime soon, Gao Gong casually opened the diary.

Biological Zone 104, ’Water Elf’ biological signal collection system, biological experiment records.

Water Elf?

Gao Gong happened to know about it. In fact, as a type of Deep Sea Radiation Beast, and a special Radiation Ecological Beast, it looked like a glowing jellyfish without tentacles.

Gao Gong skimmed a few pages, finding analyses on the ’Water Elf’ biological signal, filled with various data.

The source of the data was the information station in Zone 104.

Gao Gong thought for a moment and suddenly realized a possibility.

”How many zones does Liangzhou City have?”

”481,” Kaibao replied, thoughtfully projecting a pink holographic sphere. In the holographic projection was a map of Liangzhou City, indicating the scope of each zone.

Zone 104 was right in the middle.

Its shape was very similar to the Water Elf Gao Gong had seen in person.

And the shapes of other zones also resembled many Radiation Beasts Gao Gong knew.

Thanks to the Brain-in-a-Vat, Gao Gong knew quite a few kinds of Radiation Beasts, and he could name most of the radiation species in the Pan-Asian Region.

’Is it like this?’

Gao Gong muttered to himself.

Actually, when entering the city, Gao Gong was very curious about how such rich biological signals were preserved.

Because it’s common knowledge that biological signals, unlike sensory signals, can only exist inside the human body.

Now he understood that the layout of each zone was actually a Radiation Beast. Besides providing for daily needs, the station also organized biological signals to form an artificial biological signal system.

Humans existing in a powerful Life System unavoidably suffered effects, no wonder they all had rosy complexions, as if they were consuming tonics every day.

’But this should only be the first layer, simulating the Biological System is simply to ensure biological signals don’t dissipate.’

’But at least I found the source of this Test Field.’

In Nightless City, the Test Field’s nourishment is human desire, but in Liangzhou City, it’s human biological signals.

Having presumably settled matters with her boss, Jin Ba walked out of the room with a smiling face, wrapping a metallic arm around Gao Gong’s shoulder.

”Come on, let’s find a place, and help me adjust again.”

What, from your tone, are you thinking of staying overnight?

Gao Gong shrugged, not refusing.

On the way down, Gao Gong suddenly had a thought, opening his system panel and finding the Professional Skill ’Hunting Biome,’ he activated it, and immediately, a list of Radiation Beast names appeared. These were permanently converted status lists, and among them was ’Water Elf.’

Fear of the Radiation Water Elf (Permanent State): Intimidation against this species +35%, Attack bonus +35%, Can cause a certain degree of Radiation Ecology disturbance effect.

As they descended the elevator, Gao Gong quietly activated this status.

Jin Ba at once noticed something wrong, sniffing him hard with her nose, puzzled, she said:

”Why do you have a special bloody smell on you?”

”I’m all mechanical, where would the bloody smell come from,” Gao Gong said calmly.

”Oh, that’s right, maybe it’s my nose playing tricks?”

Jin Ba nodded, not delving deeper; however, the next moment, her pupils suddenly widened, and with a heavy bang, the elevator doors collapsed inward.

The two Kaibao were jolted and flipped over.

’Kill... Kill...’

’Revenge... Retaliate...’

’Mechanics... Exterminate...’

It was as if a thousand voices were speaking in their minds.

”Courting death!!”

Jin Ba’s pupils suddenly enlarged, a ruthless and fierce aura exploded out, her body turned crimson at a visible speed, and before the second strike landed, she punched the elevator doors open, the flying fragments pierced through numerous already substantial biological signals, embedding directly into a gigantic meatball. On the meatball’s surface, countless suckers undulated.

The previous vibration was caused by one of these suckers blasting sound waves, directly breaching the building and striking the elevator.

A figure shot out of the breach, grabbing Gao Gong in one hand and the two Kaibao in the other, twisting mid-air with agility, she propelled from an invisible air wall at a right angle, crashing into the ground.

After setting them down, Jin Ba twisted her neck, metal clashing sounds echoed, and she looked maniacally fierce at the floating giant meatball.

”Investigating cases, I’m not good at it, fighting, that’s what I’m best at!”

”I will make you fear my power!!”
