Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 992: Chapter 670: Melting Snow and Harvested Crops (Part 2)

Li Yu’s hands were wet, wearing rubber boots and long pants, and he slapped Xu Zhen on the shoulder, asking, ”Xu Zhen, why does it feel like the drainage isn’t working? It’s like our base is flooded inside and out!”

Xu Zhen wiped the sweat off his forehead and said with a bitter smile to Li Yu, ”We’re using an underground channel system, with cement pipes installed underground. The sun is shining on the surface, the weather is warming up, so the surface temperature is recovering quickly, causing the snow on the ground to melt fast.

However, underground, without sunlight, some places inside the drainage pipes still have ice that hasn’t melted, causing some pipes to be blocked.

But, Director Li, it won’t be long. At the current temperature, by tomorrow at the latest, everything will be clear, and there won’t be any problems then.”

Li Yu frowned and said, ”If that’s the case, there is still a problem with the drainage system. Now that the problem is exposed, you need to find a way to solve it.

Also, look at this time, the snow melted quickly, and it didn’t take long for so much water to accumulate, proving that the drainage system is still not perfect—there aren’t enough outlets, or they’re not large enough.

If we encounter even heavier rains in the future, wouldn’t it be very easy to be flooded as well?”

Xu Zhen wiped the sweat from his forehead, unsure if it was because he was nervous or because he had just run over here too fast.

Faced with Li Yu’s somewhat sharp criticism, he quickly nodded and said, ”Director Li, my fault. I will immediately find a way to clear the drainage outlets.

After clearing them, I will upgrade the drainage system again. I will ensure it’s not affected by snow or heavy rain.”

Seeing that he was a bit nervous and admitting his mistake, Li Yu didn’t press him for responsibility further, softening his tone, ”Be mindful. Right now, our main drainage is towards the cliff. Be careful for your safety, and also hurry, as the rainy season is coming, and there might be heavy rain.

Once upgraded, I’ll come to check!”

Xu Zhen nodded repeatedly, assuring that he will do a good job.

Li Yu then let him leave.

After Xu Zhen left, Li Yu continued to hold the sandbags in his hand, blocking the greenhouse door.

The greenhouse had to be accessed daily, but when they opened the door, water would seep in.

So, they used sandbags to block the accumulated water outside.

Creating a vacuum, water-free zone at the greenhouse entrance.

........

Outside the warehouse entrance, dozens of sandbags had been piled up to prevent water from flooding inside.

When the underground warehouse was initially constructed, all factors were considered, so during the base’s entrance construction, they raised it by two or three meters outside, forming a platform, and then it goes down.

At this moment, this two or three-meter platform came in handy, with some sandbags placed on either side, to prevent water that’s higher than the platform from flooding in, these sandbags can block the accumulated water.

Li Yuan and Father Li stood on the platform, tightly watching the accumulated water.

The inside of the warehouse’s door was shut tightly. In fact, even if water came in, unless they opened the door, the water could not break through the two doors to get inside.

Li Yuan, feeling quite bored, sat down on the platform, staring blankly at the accumulated water in front of her, ”Dad, why hasn’t this drainage opened up yet?”

Father Li looked at his daughter, placed the iron bucket in his hand on the ground; telling his daughter that it’s cold underground, but they’ve been standing here for a long while already, and fatigue is quite normal.

So, he pushed the iron bucket over, patted it, and told his daughter, ”Sit on it.”

Li Yuan didn’t refuse, grabbed the iron bucket, and sat on it.

......

Under Li Yu’s urging, Xu Zhen hurriedly ran to the base’s sewage system with Deng Ben and the others to clear it.

When Li Yu initially built the base, to ensure the base’s stability and seal, drainage outlets were installed along the walls surrounding the compound, except for the side close to the cliff. The foundation of the other three walls was laid over ten meters deep, with concrete poured.

In this way, even if outsiders dug tunnels to come in, it was unrealistic; a depth of over ten meters was extremely difficult.

”Bring the iron rod over, it’s still icy here, poke it with an iron rod!” Xu Zhen said to Dapao beside him.

Dapao also rushed over to help. Upon hearing Xu Zhen, he immediately ran to the steel plant and brought back a long iron rod.

He couldn’t move it alone, so he called over Yang Tianlong, and the two of them carried the iron rod to Xu Zhen’s side.

”Push it in! Everyone use your strength, find a way to speed up the melting of the ice inside!” Xu Zhen shouted.

Dapao inserted the long iron rod into the water, and then everyone pushed the rod hard inside.

Five or six people exerting effort together.

All it needed was a small gap, and then the rest would flow quickly. The fear was that it would be completely sealed, forming a confined space, making it even harder for the water to get out.

”Heave-ho! Heave-ho! Heave-ho!.......” everyone shouted as they pushed inside.

Crack!

It seemed to have pierced through the innermost layer of ice, followed immediately by.

Sizzle sizzle sizzle—

The water surface was visibly swirling, forming a vortex.

Cleared, cleared!

Dapao shouted loudly.

After solving this spot, Xu Zhen didn’t stay and continued to the next drainage outlet.

The snow was too thick, and the sudden rise in temperature caused the surface snow to melt, while the underneath ice hadn’t melted as quickly, leading to water accumulation on the surface, but unable to drain underground quickly!

With this experience, Xu Zhen silently vowed to improve the base’s drainage system.

Xu Zhen led the others to clear the remaining six drainage outlets one by one.

By three in the afternoon, all the outlets were cleared.

Splash—

On the cliff side, several large outlets continuously discharged the accumulated water from the base.

Some iron bars were also installed at these outlets to prevent people or zombies from sneaking in from the outside.

Within the base, the accumulated water visibly decreased.

Seeing this situation, Li Yu finally breathed a slight sigh of relief.

But to achieve maximum enclosure for the walls, the base was built to be like an iron fortress, but didn’t anticipate that too high a level of enclosure would also pose problems.

Xu Zhen realized this problem deeply, sitting dazed at the drainage outlet that night.

All drainage within the base was smooth, including the water flowing down from the Mountain Pond, industrial wastewater, and domestic water, with all channels clear.

But the problem exposed this time was the freezing weather causing the sewage pipes to be frozen, and Xu Zhen stared at the drainage outlet in contemplation.

Suddenly, he remembered Li Yu’s constant concern about the issue of heavy rain.

In previous heavy rain, the improved drainage system he worked on had never had any issues.

It’s just this time, with the snowstorm freezing it, a problem emerged.

He wondered if in the face of even heavier rains, whether these pipes could drain fast enough.

He thought for a long time, but he didn’t know; the main drainage capacity relates to two aspects.

The speed of the water flow, and the width of the drainage pipes.

This was difficult to calculate.

Xu Zhen thus began to focus on these two issues, initiating thought and action.

1. In the case of more significant precipitation, how to ensure no accumulation of water in the base.

2. In extreme cold, with the sewage pipes frozen, how to solve the awkward period after the temperature rises?

Focusing on these two issues, he began another upgrade of the base’s drainage system.

The next day.

Most of the water accumulated in the base had been cleared.

Some ice blocks that hadn’t completely melted were also slowly melting now.

The water in the Mountain Pond had melted too, and Li Yu saw by the lake that sometimes he could see fishes swimming inside.

In fact, winter fish, even at temperatures of minus dozens of degrees, can survive.

The reason isn’t that they are highly freeze-resistant, but because once the ice forms on the surface, it keeps a higher temperature beneath, isolating it from the outside temperature, allowing the fish to survive.

.......

Three days later.

In the greenhouse, the first batch of crops matured!

Everyone welcomed the harvest!
