Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

”Is that... is that a pig infected with the Zombie Virus?” Uncle, wearing gloves, pointed to a zombie pig at the edge of the forest and exclaimed in surprise.

Everyone looked over, their eyes filled with fear.

People are afraid of the unknown, but once understood and accepted, it no longer feels so terrifying.

They had seen zombies before, and after such a long period of exposure, they had come to accept the existence of zombies.

However, the sudden appearance of a zombie pig made them both shocked and scared.

Adding to the previous encounters with zombie tigers and zombie dogs, now a zombie pig has appeared. From this, a suspicion flashed in their minds: could all animals be infected by the Zombie Virus?

Second Uncle also frowned deeply and turned to look inside the base; he recalled seeing some birds nesting under some eaves.

If all animals could be infected by the Zombie Virus, then those birds must also be infected.

This would be a terrifying disaster for the Big Camphor Tree Base.

Everyone looked at each other, their eyes full of fear of the unknown.

It’s the lack of knowledge that makes them scared.

Yet, no one dared to voice their suspicion, not even Li Tie, who had first seen the zombie pig.

Beneath the wall, the roars of the zombies grew louder as their numbers increased.

On the wall, Shang Xue’er looked at the zombie pig and trembled slightly; if all animals could be infected by the Zombie Virus, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Everyone remained silent.

Li Yu naturally guessed the issue they were worried about, but he couldn’t tell them right away that only mammals are infected by the Zombie Virus.

Otherwise, he couldn’t explain how he knew.

Humans are also a type of mammal.

Tigers, pigs, lions, dogs... are all mammals, so they all get infected by the Zombie Virus.

Birds, being oviparous vertebrates, are not infected by the Zombie Virus.

The only mammal among birds, the bat, is a very special case.

It can carry all known human viruses but cannot carry the Zombie Virus.

Perhaps it’s because bats, known as ”the king of viruses” by virologists, have over 4,000 viruses in their bodies, making them immune to the Zombie Virus.

Curiously, those myriad known viruses can’t kill it, but once bitten by a zombie, it dies without fail and doesn’t turn into a zombie bat.

Seeing everyone’s worry, Li Yu spoke up: ”Dapao, go to the bird’s nest under the residential building in the Inner City, catch a small bird, and take it to Bai Jie to check if birds can be infected by the Zombie Virus.”

Li Yu’s words suddenly woke everyone up.

Indeed, rather than guessing, it was better to actually test it.

Even if birds could be infected by the Zombie Virus, they must prepare for it early.

Dapao quickly nodded and said to Li Yu, ”Alright, I’ll go now!”

Seeing him about to leave, Li Yu added, ”Ask Ma Di and Bai Jie to find out which animals can be infected by the Zombie Virus!”

Dapao nodded slightly, quickly running toward the Inner City.

Everyone stood on the wall, watching the ever-growing number of zombies below, their heads covered with a thin layer of ice, reflecting slightly in the sunlight.

Second Uncle suddenly remembered something and turned to Li Yu: ”Xiao Yu, with this heavy snow and cold weather lately, I’m not sure if the sluice gate in the middle of the wall has frozen. It’s best to check it first.”

Li Yu nodded at this suggestion, having not thought of it himself.

He immediately had Yang Tianlong go and open the switch of the sluice gate.

Yang Tianlong quickly ran into the duty room and pressed the red button of the sluice gate.

Clack, clack, clack—

A sound that made one’s teeth ache echoed.

The screeching of steel against ice was sharp and unpleasant.

Bang—

The sluice gate abruptly stopped, and Li Yu saw that the sluice gate below the wall was no longer moving forward, so he shouted to the duty room: ”Open to maximum!”

”Okay.” Hearing this, Yang Tianlong immediately adjusted the sluice gate to the maximum setting.

Rumble, rumble—

The sluice gate trembled slightly, and the accumulated snow on top slowly fell due to the vibration.

Crack!

The sluice gate began to move slowly, albeit painfully slow, but indeed steadily moving to one side.

The speed increased gradually.

Seeing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

With this sluice gate and such a tall wall, they weren’t afraid no matter how many zombies came.

Activating the sluice gate made the zombies below more agitated, roaring as they rushed to the foot of the wall.

The surface of the wall was coated with a thick layer of ice, and the zombies’ teeth and nails scraped against it, making scratching sounds.

After checking that the sluice gate could operate normally, Li Yu let Yang Tianlong close it.

As long as it worked, they didn’t need to use it at this stage.

There were already over two hundred zombies below, far from reaching the level of a medium-sized Zombie Tide.

Li Yu looked at everyone, who seemed anxious about what Dapao would discover.

He then said, ”It’s been a while since we’ve shot zombies. Lately, He Chao and those extra staff have been making plenty of arrows, so everyone can give it a try.”

With that, he walked into the duty room, picked up a crossbow, and returned to the wall.

Nocking an arrow, he aimed at the approaching zombie pig.

Shoot!

With a swoosh, the arrow pierced through the zombie pig’s skull with great force, driving the arrow into the ground.
