System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Yesterday, Ji City was still graced by a gentle spring breeze, but today it has switched to a scorching heat mode.

The blazing sun hung high in the sky, scorching the earth.

The air shimmered with waves of dizziness.

As they left the animal testing lab, Qin Kong joked, ”Director Lu, when you said you didn’t plan to proceed with subsequent clinical trials, you were kidding, right?”

”I’ve already explained it to Professor Wang and the others.”

Qin Kong was a professor of anesthesiology invited by Lu Cheng, also one of the renowned professors in the field of anesthesiology.

Besides Qin Kong from Huazhong Union Hospital, there was Wang Luhua from Huaxi Hospital, Zhou Yuansheng from Kyoto Union Hospital, and Du Doyao from Xiangya Hospital.

Lu Cheng said, ”Professor Qin, actually, this motor-sensory separation anesthesia is quite cumbersome to operate.”

”Theoretically, it’s also difficult to explain thoroughly. For now, I just see it as a phenomenon!”

”The reason I’m tinkering with this is entirely for my wife’s hand-function impairment.”

Professor Du Doyao said, ”Director Lu, the original reason doesn’t matter much anymore.”

”Now that you’ve developed this, such a good thing should be left in clinical use.”

”This isn’t about whether you want to or not; it’s one of the obligations we teaching hospital doctors should undertake.”

When Du Doyao heard this news, he was hysterical, so now his emotions are quite stable.

He also did a background check on Lu Cheng: ”Director Lu, your busyness is your reason, not our reason.”

”Director Qin, what do you think?”

If the clinical topic Lu Cheng is working on now wasn’t cutting-edge specialties like Liver Preservation Surgery or Functional Reconstruction Skill, and he said he didn’t want to turn this anesthesia method into a topic, he would be beaten to death.

However, Lu Cheng is now standing on a certain position of another specialty.

That is, each field has its own specialization and he has found his backbone.

If you order Lu Cheng to do something, you’re just being unreasonable.

”That’s what I think too!”

”This anesthesia belongs to a category under local anesthesia, and it’s actually quite feasible to gather clinical data.”

”Patients with tendon injuries could undergo it.”

”If it’s truly effective, it could save money for such minor trauma patients while enhancing efficacy.”

Lu Cheng’s interest isn’t in anesthesiology; Qin Kong doesn’t want to pressure him, but he must find a suitable reason for Lu Cheng, making him immediately gather some data in clinical settings.

Immediately, as soon as possible!

If not for considering that they’re all peers, Qin Kong himself would have wanted to generate the data right there.

Lu Cheng thought for a moment, then looked around: ”Professor Qin, actually, if you really want to gather data, it’s not necessarily required to find patients.”

Although these words aligned with Qin Kong’s train of thought, he immediately waved his hand: ”Don’t look at me!”

”There’s no way I would agree.”

”...”

At the gathering, Mu Nanshu and Dai Linfang turned into assistants.

Though they didn’t need to serve tea or pour water, arranging drinks and organizing the liquor still required manpower.

Lu Cheng said very courteously, ”Esteemed teachers, I am very happy that you have come a long way for my wife’s condition. No matter what, I must raise this cup to toast.”

Professor Zhou Yuansheng from Kyoto Union Hospital waved it off: ”Director Lu, skip the nonsense, quickly elaborate on this anesthesia’s basic principles.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Professor Zhou, I’ve actually gone over what needed to be said—just two important issues.”

”The first is localization.”

”If we don’t have a precise understanding of the anatomical structure, we can use ultrasound to locate the nerve.”

”Of course, beyond finding the nerve, we need to understand the nerve’s pathway structure and precisely locate the separation of sensory and motor branches to administer anesthesia effectively.”

”Secondly, it’s about quantification and direction.”

”We must attempt to advance the needle in the direction closer to the nerve, so that the administered drug will migrate slightly away from the nerve, and the receding spread of anesthetic will ideally produce a local anesthetic effect on the nerve.”

”The sensory and motor branches are not far apart, so this quantification is quite important.”

”If possible, we can maintain the anesthetic effect through careful statistics and calculations followed by continuous drug infusion.”

This is the fundamental principle behind motor-sensory separation anesthesia.

Zhou Yuansheng pondered and asked, ”Director Lu, what if during the procedure, one pierces the nerve, what then?”

Lu Cheng shook his head, directly saying, ”I don’t know either, Professor Zhou, I’ve never pierced it.”

The conversation was abruptly ended by Lu Cheng.

Lu Cheng did it intentionally, yet not intentionally.

Lu Cheng isn’t from anesthesiology; he delves into motor-sensory separation anesthesia purely because his puncture skill is good enough, hence this current thought.

Lu Cheng comes from a surgical background, so he is extremely familiar with anatomy.

Frequently passing through anatomical structures, he can also pre-observe nerve variations with MRI.

Given such conditions, piercing the nerve!

It would merely prove inadequate skill on your part.

When technical inadequacies lead to piercing the nerve, it’s fundamentally a technical insufficiency—how would Lu Cheng know what to do with that...

”You’ve never pierced it?” Zhou Yuansheng, being from the North, tall and slim with a slight Beijing accent.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”Professor Zhou, not yet.”

After Lu Cheng spoke, Dai Linfang, having just sat down, noticed the familiar expressions on the faces of Professor Zhou Yuansheng and others.

That was a look of helplessness after encountering a monster.

Dai Linfang secretly felt a sense of satisfaction.
