System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”Transfer it, if you’re not satisfied with the transfer, do you still think you can leave?”

Lu Cheng hung up the phone and said, ”Sister Xin, please don’t make things difficult for me, I’ll transfer it to you, okay?”

”Wife, how much do you think we should give to Sister Xin?”

”You name a number!”

”Our household is managed by you.”

Mu Nanshu, smart and witty, didn’t reply, only sneaking a laugh: ”Sister Huang Xin, I haven’t taken charge yet, you name the number yourself?”

How could Mu Nanshu ruin the bridesmaids’ fun.

”Then at least four eights, 88.88, all our bridesmaids, one for each.” Huang Xin shook her phone.

As soon as Huang Xin finished speaking, she suddenly realized she was being lifted up.

She let out a yelp, caught off guard.

Then she realized she was being carried, ”Put me down.”

Zeng Huanqi, mischievous as ever: ”Don’t yell at me, it was Lu Cheng who promised me, if I help him fetch the bride today, I can carry off a wife.”

”I think, it should be you...”

Zeng Huanqi, a standard Xiangxi native, instantly shouted: ”Hey, brothers, you keep busy here, I’m carrying someone off to handle some serious business.”

”I’ve already set an example...”

”Whoever dares to make things difficult for my buddy, we’ll just carry them off!~”

Huang Xin patted Zeng Huanqi: ”Let go, who are you? A hooligan...”

Zeng Huanqi remained unmoved, with a cigarette in his mouth: ”What does being a hooligan even mean, you can call me a bandit.”

”Snatching wives, as if that’s not the bandits’ specialty...”

Zeng Huanqi and Huang Xin’s voices gradually faded away.

This kind of joke, as long as you’re brave enough, the host can’t stop you.

The bridesmaids can joke, of course the groomsmen can too.

Logically, both bridesmaids and groomsmen aren’t married yet, even if they have boyfriends or girlfriends, they haven’t reached the final step, they can still break up.

So, as long as you have the guts, pairing up is a ”good deed.”

With Zeng Huanqi setting the precedent, others really didn’t dare try anything, especially Xie Yuan’an, who was particularly wary of the other groomsmen, afraid someone might carry her off like Zeng Huanqi did.

This allowed Lu Cheng to finally put shoes on Mu Nanshu’s feet.

It was still early, so even after finding the shoes and putting them on symbolically, Mu Nanshu changed back into her own shoes and began organizing the bridal party to go for breakfast.

The wedding activities were drawing to a close at this point.

At this moment, Mu Nanshu’s father Mu Leng came in, shouting: ”Everyone can have fun, but don’t go overboard, it’s normal for you young people to play games, but know your limits...”

”Especially don’t delay timing, making it awkward for everyone to meet.”

”It doesn’t matter if they’re groomsmen or bridesmaids, they’re all the same.”

”Now breakfast has been set up below; everyone prepare to tidy up and go eat...”

After Mu Leng finished speaking, he arranged for someone to distribute cigarettes to the bridal party.

The banquet of Mu Leng’s family was combined with Lu Cheng’s, the two families booked out a hotel, one side for the men, the other for the women, and the wedding stage set in the middle.

After most people dispersed, Mu Nanshu sat cross-legged and said: ”Professor Lu has arrived, you didn’t send anyone to pick him up, did you?”

”Then you should still give him a call.”

Lu Cheng was already looking through his contacts: ”Get your cousin to pack up two breakfasts and bring them up, we’ll eat here and not go down to join the crowd.”

Mu Nanshu nodded: ”Alright.”

”Why did Professor Lu come over these two days?”

”You sent him an invitation, but he didn’t reply, right?”

If a distinguished guest like Professor Lu came to Long County, Lu Cheng would have informed Mu Nanshu.

”No reply.”

Lu Cheng’s call just got through, he sat alongside Mu Nanshu in her traditional bridal gown: ”Teacher Lu, have you come to Long County?”

”Yes, we just hurried over last night.”

”I went to your workplace to find you, your colleagues said you weren’t there, then I realized you had mentioned that you were getting married.”

”It’s my own forgetfulness.”

”But since I’m already here...”

”Oh, by the way, this time, Professor Gu from Huashan Hospital is also here.” Professor Lu Mang’s familiar voice came through the phone.

The mention of Professor Gu brought back memories for Lu Cheng from many years ago.

Mu Nanshu and Lu Cheng had once argued with an academician, and the other person involved was Academic Gu from the orthopedics department at Huashan Hospital.

”Professor Lu, are you referring to Professor Gu from the hand surgery department?” Lu Cheng was a bit uncertain.

”Indeed… we were chatting during a meeting the other day, discussing a topic related to transplantation.”

”We then mentioned you, and when Professor Gu found out we both knew you, he came along to find you.”

”It’s my poor memory that led to this oversight.”

”Thinking the timing was just right, we decided to come over for a meal…” Professor Lu Mang, quite fashionable, knew the trendy online term for snatching a meal.

Mu Nanshu’s eyes flashed for a moment.

”Professor Lu, you arrived yesterday, you should’ve messaged me earlier so I could arrange someone to pick you up,” Lu Cheng laughed, replying.

”You’re quite busy now, and we came on a whim, it’s actually a disturbance, couldn’t bother you further.”

”Focus on picking up your bride, any big issue wouldn’t weigh more than what you’re doing now.”

”Oh?”

Professor Lu’s voice suddenly changed tone: ”Professor Gu asks if your wife is surnamed Mu.”

”Yes, Professor Lu. My wife is called Mu Nanshu,” Lu Cheng replied.

Professor Lu conveyed: ”Professor Gu, Lu Cheng says his wife is surnamed Mu, called Mu something Shu.”

”Do you remember her at all?”

”I have some impressions of them.” Professor Gu’s slightly elderly voice came through the phone.

”Eight or nine years ago, or whenever it was, I was over seventy, and really no one dared to scold me.”

Professor Lu’s voice showed slight panic: ”Professor Gu, you’re saying they scolded you?”

”Is there any misunderstanding here?”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng replied: ”Professor Lu, there’s no misunderstanding, such a thing is something only the two of us did.”

”At that time, we were young and foolish.”

Professor Lu’s throat swallowing was very audible over the phone: ”You’re not just foolish, though?”

”Good thing you encountered Professor Gu, otherwise, the two of you might have stayed like this your entire lives...”

”What a unique choice of words, though?”

...

After Lu Cheng completed the process of bringing home the bride, and accompanying her on her homecoming visit following the wedding, doing the ”handwashing”, ”children roll on the bed”, and other basic processes.

Both Mu Nanshu and Lu Cheng changed into their casual clothes and headed to the hotel room where guests were staying.

Lu Cheng had informed his parents that Professor Lu and others were very important guests, and they should be well accommodated, so the family arranged for them to stay in the best hotel suite in Long County!

Perhaps this hotel was too modest and fell short of the standard of the likes of Professor Lu and others were accustomed to, thus they didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

When Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu arrived, Professor Lu and the others were already having tea, discussing something amongst themselves.

Lu Cheng could only vaguely hear some rather unfamiliar medical terminologies.

When these people saw Lu Cheng, they turned their gazes towards him, scanning up and down.

Before Lu Cheng had a chance to speak, Professor Gu said: ”Dr. Lu, do you still remember me?”

”I’m sure you do, I’ve seen many stubborn people, but very few like you.”

”Professor Gu, good afternoon, my apologies for not welcoming you from afar!” Lu Cheng replied promptly, stepping forward to pay respects.

Mu Nanshu placed both her hands on her abdomen as she greeted: ”Teacher Gu, good afternoon.”

Professor Gu shrugged his shoulders playfully, ”You’re calling me teacher this time? Not the old fossil?”

Mu Nanshu buried her chin at a near-neck angle, ”Teacher Gu, in the past, I was young and foolish.”

”Thank you for your understanding and not pursuing the issue.”

Professor Gu, with crane-like hair and a black face, said: ”What’s there to pursue, your words weren’t lies in the past.”

”Clinical work is indeed very important, his degrees or papers, on a personal level, shouldn’t necessarily decide everything.”

Professor Gu sighed: ”I just didn’t imagine, Lu Cheng, that after all that, you really never intended to pursue further studies.”

”It seems I held you back, I’ve come this time to offer an apology to you.”
