System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”From my perspective, I would also wonder, why should my son have to work overtime?”

”My son is getting married today, even if the King of Heaven shows up, he shouldn’t have to work overtime, right?”

”What do you all think?” Mu Leng, a seasoned player in the business world, posed the question.

Lu Cheng responded, ”Dad, I know, but the situation today is special. If it weren’t so special, I wouldn’t have come.”

”Thanks for understanding, Dad.”

...

After hanging up the phone, Lu Cheng still made a call to his parents.

In reality, neither Lu Nanjia nor Tian Hui was truly angry; they just felt Lu Cheng was overworked.

”Dad, I chose to come myself. This was my own choice.”

”I could have chosen not to come, but this situation is different from when I was in Long County.”

”I have this capability now; people are seeking me, not the other way around,” Lu Cheng explained.

Lu Nanjia said, ”Alright, anyway, you two need to take more rest.”

”Health is the most important. While your mom and I hope for your career success, it must be built on a foundation of good health.”

”Better to have a simple and healthy life than to achieve fame young but suffer from ailments.”

”Make sure to eat on time too.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Dad, when you wake up, we’ll be there.”

”We’re coming for breakfast.”

How could Lu Cheng not realize that Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui missed him?

This kind of comfort, Lu Nanjia and Tian Hui understood.

”Alright, I’ll wait for you to come for breakfast tomorrow...” Lu Nanjia hung up the phone proactively.

Once the call ended, time and space were left to Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu.

Though not a bridal chamber, it was the place they both knew best.

To outsiders, it might seem like an ordinary day, but to them, this was their grand day.

Outside the window, lights remained bright; inside, the lights glowed warmly.

Having eaten and drunk well, with a slight tipsiness, Lu Cheng looked at Mu Nanshu, ”Are you tired? Want to take a shower?”

”Sure, let’s go!” Mu Nanshu eagerly moved closer, hugged Lu Cheng, and began to nibble...

A night in silence.

The next day, Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu woke up early.

They needed to pick up a car from Renmin Hospital and drive back to Long County for breakfast.

Mornings meant no traffic jams.

In the car phone, Dai Linfang was giving Lu Cheng a report, with Mu Nanshu quietly listening from the passenger seat: ”Director Lu, the child has woken up.”

”But I took the liberty not to tell the child or the family that you came over temporarily.”

”You won’t mind, will you?”

Lu Cheng replied, ”What is there to mind?”

”The vital signs are all okay, right?”

”All good, though he wants to eat something, but we didn’t dare give him any, and he cried,” Dai Linfang chuckled.

”His crying was quite heartbreaking, but there’s no choice.”

”We gave him another dose of glucose and saline, and now he’s asleep again...”

”He’s a true child, hungry and just wants to eat!~”

Lu Cheng said, ”There’s no choice, postoperative strict fasting is necessary. No matter how much he cries, he has to fast...”

”As long as he hasn’t lost consciousness.”

”You keep busy, I’m on the highway.”

Dai Linfang asked, ”On the highway all night, can you handle it?”

”Shut up!~” Lu Cheng cursed before hanging up the phone.

Mu Nanshu glanced in Lu Cheng’s direction, her cheeks rosy, ”Is he really the worm in your gut? Or is he just guessing?”

”He’s just speeding on the highway, what is there to guess,” Lu Cheng said naturally.

”Let’s swap places at the next service area,” suggested Mu Nanshu.

Mu Nanshu truly worried Lu Cheng might be too exhausted... and it’s true that Lu Cheng doesn’t have many other vices, but does have a bit of a playful side...

”It’s fine; I can handle it.” Lu Cheng focused intently, maintaining a steady speed around 110.

...

In a flash, five days had passed.

At Xiangzhou People’s Hospital, in the trauma center, within the operating room.

Lu Cheng called out to Mu Nanshu, who was on the surgical equipment table, ”Let’s go, Xiao Shu, the operation is done, we can leave the rest to Liu Nongqiu.”

”We’re going boating today.”

Mu Nanshu didn’t understand the surgical process at all; she was just too curious about the operating room, so Lu Cheng brought her in for a ”honeymoon tour” to experience what it feels like to be a surgical nurse!

”Oh!~” Mu Nanshu followed Lu Cheng out of the operating room, dazed.

Outside the door, Mu Nanshu added, ”Did that patient just come back to life?”

After spending five days witnessing the borderline between life and death, Mu Nanshu somewhat understood what the threshold between life and death involves.

Originally, Mu Nanshu had planned a post-wedding trip to western Sichuan.

But right before departure, Lu Cheng suggested taking her to another place for a trip, promising it was somewhere she hadn’t really spent time.

Mu Nanshu then canceled the trip.

Lost a chunk on plane tickets, but the hotel fees were refunded in full.

”Alive!” Lu Cheng replied with confidence.

”These active pelvic hematomas are incredibly dangerous, in many hospitals, they advise against surgical intervention, waiting for the patient’s vital signs to stabilize, and then for it to absorb on its own.”

”But this waiting is merely a makeshift solution; at least forty percent of people don’t make it to absorption.”

”There’s no choice; opening the hematoma to stop the bleeding is too difficult.”

Mu Nanshu nodded lightly, ”I can imagine, those pelvic blood vessels look chaotic, and I hear the hematoma vascular system behind the peritoneum is even more complex.”

”Do you want to become like me?” Lu Cheng asked again.

”Like you?” Mu Nanshu tilted her head skeptically.

At this moment, they stood at the fork leading to different changing rooms.

Lu Cheng was headed to the doctors’ changing room, the men’s changing area.

Mu Nanshu’s destination was the nurses’ changing room, the women’s changing area.

”Yes, like my operation, actually in clinical practice.” Lu Cheng nodded.

Mu Nanshu still seemed puzzled, so Lu Cheng pushed her into the corridor, ”Once you’ve calmed down, come stay in our department, I’ll personally operate on you.”

”Do the functional rehabilitation skill for your fingers.”

...

Walking into the nurses’ changing room corridor, Mu Nanshu felt a bit dazed.

Lu Cheng’s words seemed to echo faintly in her ears.

”Functional rehabilitation skill isn’t just the functional reconstruction skill, the goal of functional reconstruction is only to restore eighty percent of your finger’s original function.”

”Functional rehabilitation skill can restore your functionality to eighty to ninety percent of the average function of a professional!”

”That’s impossible.” Mu Nanshu remembered she rebutted once.

Instinctively, she felt Lu Cheng was pulling her leg.

”Your husband says it’s possible, and the chance is very high!~”

”I intended to give this as a gift before our wedding.”

”But didn’t have time, post-wedding gift is just as fine.”

”This idea is good, but due to practical and theoretical execution, it’s very difficult.”

”I think July is a good time.”

”Trust me!~”

”Bringing you into the operating room as part of the post-wedding trip, mostly to see if you like clinical work.”

”It’s clear, you long for this place.”

”What my wife desires, I naturally have to find a way to make it happen...”

Mu Nanshu was at her locker, shedding her scrubs.

Then, before putting on her clothes, she raised her right hand.

Looking at the scars, many painful memories flooded into her mind.

She also glanced at her left hand.

Mu Nanshu’s gaze turned a bit resentful as she cursed, ”It’s you who is disappointing.”

She had thought she could become left-handed, it’s essentially the same.

But Mu Nanshu couldn’t bring herself to train her left hand into a dominant one.

After the scolding, Mu Nanshu looked at her right hand, ”Goodbye.”

Then, she put on her clothes.

As she was entering the operating room, she wore simple jeans and a shirt.

Only at this moment did Mu Nanshu realize, what she thought was Lu Cheng’s indifference towards marriage was all untrue.

It’s just that they cared differently.

What she thought about was how to give Lu Cheng a relaxed honeymoon.

What Lu Cheng thought was precisely what he said at the wedding.

He wanted to be with her.

He needed to be with her.

Earlier, Lu Cheng said another part of those words - Mu Nanshu also needed to be with him!

Companionship is mutual, this is what makes a family.

Not just in life but also in work, and shared topics too.
