System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”So, even if the performance of these devices isn’t that great, as long as they’re better than some doctors’ operations and can be widely applied, they’re good things.”

”Currently, in hand surgery, we find the suturing techniques to be the most promising for device development...”

”Professor Lu, Professor Che, and others, although not from our hand surgery department, have sections involved in medical device development...”

Lu Cheng listened and cautiously asked, ”Professor Gu, are you suggesting that I try to integrate my suturing techniques into a suturing device?”

”Yes!~” Professor Gu nodded.

”As the saying goes, even if you’re full of iron, how many nails can you drive?”

”Advanced suturing techniques are certainly something people need to learn to achieve better operational efficacy, which is required by some special patients.”

”But if we can scale the suturing device, then ordinary doctors can perform the operation too. Even if the quality isn’t as good as that of the specialists, if it’s barely adequate, it can still benefit more people...”

”This will allow more hospitals to perform these surgeries, and more practitioners will dare to conduct them.”

Lu Cheng said, ”Professor Gu, it’s not that I want to refuse, but you should know my research skills are actually quite lacking.”

”Developing a suturing device requires a more professional team and more specialized researchers, which doesn’t align with my current status...”

Professor Gu: ”Dr. Lu, it’s all about human effort.”

”The more technology we can apply to medical devices, the greater the social benefits and sociological impact.”

”I also heard Professor Lu Mang say that at first, he didn’t expect you, Dr. Lu, to develop a mature liver preservation surgery.”

”But the result was that you led the team and completed them all.”

”The current lack of accumulation is just temporary; there’s plenty of time in the future.”

”In medical device development, we may not be the pioneers, but we can certainly become quick followers.”

”We must have our own ’suturing device’ so that we won’t be stuck.”

”To be honest, since volume purchasing began, more and more foreign medical companies have withdrawn, leaving us with fewer devices to use.”

”A clever housewife cannot cook without rice, so the country is encouraging our researchers to engage in related work...”

Soon after, Mu Nanshu entered the room.

Lu Cheng briefly relayed Professor Gu’s words.

After listening, Mu Nanshu frowned: ”Professor Gu, if we are to develop a suturing device, our industrial foundation in the preliminary stages is rather poor.”

”This doesn’t only involve the medical industry but also related fields like engineering, science, and materials science.”

”This is still too far from our team.”

Professor Gu glanced at Mu Nanshu, with a somewhat ambiguous smile: ”Xiao Mu and Xiao Lu, you didn’t have so many concerns before, did you?”

”Ten years ago, you certainly wouldn’t have dared to think that Lu Cheng could truly impress those of us who love research with pure professional operations.”

”At that time, how could you dare to say similar things?”

Professor Gu’s remarks were short but contained profound insights.

Moreover, they, who were just bystanders, suddenly became one of the involved parties.

Several people’s gazes wandered around Lu Cheng!

Lu Cheng smiled and said, ”Professor Gu, I had no choice. As a loser, I could only boast casually.”

”Didn’t we agree not to mention this matter?”

Those words were equivalent to disrupting the foundation and rules of an industry’s operation.

Lu Cheng could act this way, but he couldn’t spread the fact that he had done it everywhere.

It’s not something you can talk about just because you accomplished it.

After quietly pondering for a moment, Mu Nanshu slowly sipped some tea: ”Professor Gu, we can certainly agree to such sentimental commitments.”

”But you should know, these are matters for big figures to consider.”

”Lu Cheng and I, both now and in many years, are just little figures.”

”As the saying goes, ’Don’t plan affairs that are not within your position!’”

Upon hearing this, Professor Gu calmly said, ”You see, you see...”

”I told you before, neither Xiao Mu nor Xiao Lu are afraid of trouble.”

”And now they’re starting to set conditions.”

Lu Mang, who was relatively familiar with Lu Cheng, chuckled faintly: ”Xiao Mu, you just mentioned it’s about pretending sentiment.”

”So it’s only result-based.”

”It’s not about what you agreed upon that matters.”

”But the advantage of boasting about sentiment is that if it succeeds, the benefits have no upper limit!”

”This is no longer a topic comparable to some techniques you’ve developed.”

”It can even influence the development direction and planning of the medical device industry...”

”The country has always advocated originality and research.”

”It’s not that there’s no progress; a lot has been done, with considerable resources invested, it’s just not reported in the news.”

”Because it’s not yet qualified to be reported.”

”The pie is huge, and how much you can eat depends entirely on your skills.”

Mu Nanshu didn’t even flinch: ”There’s nothing like paying respects required, right?”

Lu Mang understood Mu Nanshu’s implication immediately.

Lu Mang sighed and looked at Professor Gu: ”Professor Gu, the current industry environment is not very good.”

”Resources are indeed limited, so many participations require high thresholds.”

”And obtaining these entry tickets has spawned many issues that currently remain unsolved.”

Valuing talent is fundamental.

But judging who is talented involves many considerations.

What is it based on?

If based on college entrance exam scores, children in poor mountainous areas receive very limited education resources and may not even have the opportunity to understand competition tracks.

If not based on scores, then ordinary families have even less chance to enjoy top-tier resources.

If research conclusions are solely result-based?

Fine, but where do your project funds and initial research grants come from?

Even at institutions like Huaqing or Kyoto University, some people have access to far more resources than ordinary students by dozens or even hundreds of times.

The very realistic point is that even if Dai Linfang’s classmates have great potential, they can’t enjoy the same resources as Dai Linfang.

Professor Gu sighed: ”Xiao Lu, so you still feel that now, you need to consider personal development first.”

”And haven’t fully detached from such burdens?”

This so-called ’respecting others’ refers to whether the results will be taken over by others.

Logically, real scientific research shouldn’t it be that whoever is more capable is the primary beneficiary?

Your scientific skills are beneficial, so the results should be yours, right?

But, in reality, the operating rules are exceedingly cruel!

In reality, the ’youthfulness’ being publicized, the tab’s ’price’ was long marked in secret!

Those are chips completely inaccessible to ordinary people.

Lu Cheng didn’t dare to be magnanimous; he smiled and said: ”Professor Gu, I’m just a common person.”

”Of course, Nanshu was just asking.”

”Since the teachers mentioned it, we will definitely consider moving in that direction...”

”I can’t be generous, as I have no money or house.”

”An old car was even bought by my dad for me.”

Professor Gu nodded gently: ”That’s true; you’re still too young now...”

”Youth is when energy and creativity are at their peak, but economic burdens are also greatest.”

”Once you reach a certain age, the economic burden is smaller, but energy and creativity slightly wane...”

”Thank you for continuing to talk to me about these issues without misunderstanding!”

”However, I can’t give you the most affirmative answer because I don’t have the capability in this respect...”

”After all, you’re not part of our unit.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Cheng quickly shook his head, emphasizing: ”Professor Gu, please don’t misunderstand, my wife, and I only consider these issues from a personal perspective, and don’t require anything.”

”Even if there were demands, they would be made to our units!”

His connection with Huashan Hospital had long ended with Lu Cheng.

Professor Gu suddenly joked like a mischievous old man: ”Maybe, if I make a call to your unit’s leader, there might be other effects!”

Lu Cheng was stunned for a moment.

He looked at the old fox.

Lu Cheng’s file is now in Xiangzhou, and his next contact is Union Hospital.

Professor Gu, an academician at Huashan Hospital, if he calls Union Hospital saying Lu Cheng mentioned he has no money, the effect would be significant…
