System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The long, fragmented tunnel on the highway from Zhang City to Ji City.

The scenery of clear mountains and waters, sometimes there’s no time to look carefully before being led into the tunnel again.

”I’m asking, has Professor Lu left?”

The call from Professor Chen Song was also intermittent.

”Oh, oh, he’s already boarded and left. Teacher Chen, there are quite a few tunnels along the way, the signal isn’t very good.” Lu Cheng replied while driving.

Chen Song knows that patience is needed: ”Let’s talk when you get to Ji City.”

…

Lu Cheng had just dropped off Dai Linfang at his community when Chen Song called again, they arranged a meeting spot, and Lu Cheng drove towards the destination.

Qianzhou, Ancient City, riverside walkway.

Lu Cheng and Chen Song walked side by side, Chen Song’s tone was melancholy: ”Is this Professor Lu the one Director Xiao introduced to you?”

Chen Song was also the lead surgeon for Xiao Mingqi’s surgery, at least in name.

Lu Cheng was certain that Xiao Mingqi had definitely added Chen Song’s contact details.

”Yes, Teacher Chen.” This person was not a secret to Chen Song, so Lu Cheng didn’t need to hide it.

”Sigh...”

Chen Song sighed gently: ”This is the difference in personal ability, with the same resources.”

”In different hands, there’s a variety of effects...”

”Of course, you’re excellent enough to seize every opportunity.”

”You should think carefully about what Professor Lu said, it has another meaning...”

Lu Cheng didn’t plan to hide: ”Teacher Chen, Dai Linfang explained to me in detail.”

”What did Dai Linfang tell you?” Chen Song tilted his head.

”Just some things unrelated to the profession.” Lu Cheng replied.

Chen Song gritted his teeth: ”I know it’s unrelated to the profession, I’m asking, does he know something else?”

No one doesn’t want to progress!

There are different ways to progress, some rely on networking, while others rely on professional skills.

Actually, besides these two, there’s also a kind of progress where you’re just in the right place at the right time...

Lu Cheng nodded: ”This seems to be one of Dai Linfang’s intentions for coming to Xiangzhou.”

Chen Song’s right hand formed a fist, his left hand a palm, and he continually patted it.

Their eyes darted quickly.

Generally speaking, ideals don’t have much relation to young people; young people aren’t suited for discussing ideals.

Among the people around Lu Cheng, he found Dai Linfang the hardest to understand.

The main issue was not being able to clearly define Dai Linfang’s intentions in coming to Xiangzhou.

Now, after knowing some clues, it felt much lighter.

”What’s your take on this matter?” Chen Song asked.

”I don’t know...” Lu Cheng shook his head honestly.

This was already entering Lu Cheng’s blind spot of knowledge, he’s just a clinical doctor, and currently only a slightly better-skilled clinical doctor.

That’s all.

Of course, Lu Cheng also expressed his stance: ”No matter how things change, I’m just a doctor.”

Chen Song nodded slowly: ”Your attitude is quite agreeable, you don’t know, after Professor Lu left, they’ve reached out to me many times already.”

”All of them are openly and secretly inquiring about things.”

”Your senior brother also inquired.”

Lu Cheng wasn’t surprised: ”Maybe I’m the closest, or perhaps I’m the furthest, so I’m carefree.”

”Teacher Chen, I heard you held a conference this month? Did a surgical broadcast?”

”How did you feel?” Lu Cheng wasn’t keen on discussing these with Chen Song, so he changed the topic.

Liver Preservation Surgery is not a named or standardized operation, many teams in clinical practice investigate it.

Anyone can perform their own version of ’Liver Preservation Surgery’ and present their operations in front of peers, to compare advantages and disadvantages.

Chen Song could finally raise his chin in pride by habit: ”Where did you hear that?”

”My senior brother? You just mentioned him.” Lu Cheng replied with a smile.

Chen Song nodded slowly, his expression slightly conflicted: ”Performed one surgery, only dared to do one.”

”Did Zhang Boyuan tell you all the details?” Chen Song lowered his slightly raised chin, his voice tightened.

As if from a constricted space in the throat muscles.

Lu Cheng nodded: ”More or less, he mentioned things.”

”Did he share the criticisms with you too?” Chen Song’s eyes widened.

This is what he most didn’t want Lu Cheng to know.

Originally, Chen Song used Lu Cheng’s Liver Preservation Surgery for the surgical broadcast to elevate the reputation of the technique, but the actual outcome was different.

Though he wasn’t mocked, he was criticized by some senior figures, which still made Chen Song feel a bit embarrassed.

Lu Cheng nodded truthfully: ”Senior Brother Zhang mentioned it.”

Chen Song took a deep breath: ”They didn’t say the surgical technique was bad.”

”They just said I didn’t do well, I’ve already accepted the consequences, you don’t need to worry.”

Academic conferences, surgical broadcasts, these aren’t grand shows, anyone would talk to you about human relations and worldly wisdom.

Good points should be praised; bad points questioned.

You should prepare to save face while also preparing to lose face, Chen Song’s mindset has matured up till now.

Chen Song then shifted the topic: ”Your relationship with Zhang Boyuan? How would you describe it?”

Lu Cheng’s voice was quiet: ”Fateful but unfulfilled.”

”You call that fateful but unfulfilled?” Chen Song paused, resting both hands on the concrete rail, calmly looking at Lu Cheng.

”Seems like a misuse of words, but Teacher Chen, I’m at a loss for words.”

”Anyway, it’s just how it is, we could’ve been senior and junior brothers but due to various reasons, it led to me not being able to rise to it.” Lu Cheng also understood the subtle art of being passive-aggressive.
