System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

The private room was filled with the scent of incense, with wisps of smoke curling upwards. The aroma lingered faintly.

As Zhang Boyuan spoke, Lu Cheng’s phone rang.

Glancing at the screen, Lu Cheng apologized, ”I’m sorry... teachers, I’ll step outside to take this call.”

Lu Cheng left immediately after speaking, without waiting for approval from the others.

Once Lu Cheng was out, the group exchanged glances, and the atmosphere grew slightly awkward.

”Good afternoon, Professor Lu.” Lu Cheng greeted courteously as he reached outside the private room.

The incoming call was from Lu Cheng’s contact marked as Lu Mang: ”Xiao Lu, the young person everyone’s talking about recently in the inner circle, is that you?”

”Those hands, I recognized them immediately as yours.”

Lu Cheng was slightly puzzled, ”Inner circle? What inner circle are you referring to?”

Lu Mang laughed heartily, ”Then it must be you. You little rascal, are you trying to shock everyone with your unexpected progress?”

”If you hadn’t previously sent me the videos of your surgical techniques, I wouldn’t have been certain.”

”But seeing those hands, I knew it was you!” Lu Mang was quite sure in his tone.

Indeed, Lu Cheng had sent Professor Lu Mang videos of his liver suturing technique.

”Teacher Lu, did you call just to verify this matter?”

”I do feel that my techniques have improved recently, so I asked some teachers within the province to give their opinions... I just didn’t expect it to reach you...” Lu Cheng maintained a professional distance.

He consulted Professor Chen Song because of their past connection, as Professor Chen had always served as his teacher.

Professor Lu Mang was ultimately only a recommended acquaintance, with just a few encounters, which wasn’t enough for Lu Cheng to impose upon him...

”What have you been up to recently? I’m quite curious,” Lu Mang shifted topics.

”Just performing surgeries and working on projects; thanks to your mentorship, things have been quite fulfilling...” Lu Cheng reported truthfully.

What else could Lu Cheng be doing presently?

Every day in clinical practice, with additional preparations being for next month’s wedding.

Beyond that, he had no other extraneous thoughts.

”I just checked, and the nearest airport to your location is Zhangjiajie, right?” Lu Mang suddenly mentioned.

Lu Cheng promptly asked back, ”Teacher Lu, are you planning a visit for some relaxation? When are you arriving?”

”I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up.”

At the end of May, there’s another holiday, the Dragon Boat Festival.

There are people who choose to travel during the current Dragon Boat Festival as well.

”It’s something I’ve been doing in the last couple of days... if you had mentioned it earlier, I might have arranged it sooner...”

”Well... hmm, Xiao Lu, there might be something I need to discuss with you.” Lu Mang suddenly hesitated.

”Teacher Lu, please go ahead. There’s no need to hold back,” Lu Cheng responded promptly.

”You know, foundational skills are easy to learn but hard to master; an advanced skill level is indeed a blessing for patients.”

”It also marks the start of a doctor truly engaging with medicine and finding joy in it.”

”So, this aspect is quite prioritized in our field.”

”Usually, teaching is passed down through mentorship, I wonder who your current mentor is, Xiao Lu?” Lu Mang suddenly changed the topic somewhat rigidly.

Lu Cheng answered truthfully, ”Teacher Lu, my current mentor is Professor Chen Song from the Emergency Department at Xiangya Second Hospital.”

Lu Mang possibly reminisced for a moment, not recognizing the person Lu Cheng mentioned: ”I meant a mentor, not just a teaching instructor.”

”Is it Professor Zhong Junyun from Union Hospital?”

”We called Professor Zhong, and he stated it wasn’t him.”

Lu Cheng paused in silence for a while before saying, ”Teacher Zhong has guided me as well.”

Lu Mang, being who he was, certainly understood the implication: ”So, you’re saying you’ve surpassed the struggles that others found unattainable, almost by chance.”

”Xiao Lu, your talent indeed incites jealousy!”

”However, to keep a low profile, it’s best if you officially choose a mentor.”

”Regardless, you’ve reached this level!”

”Others won’t question your journey, but there’s no need to distinctively declare yourself as having no mentor guiding your path.”

”Once you’ve acquired what you need, that’s what matters, don’t you think?”

Lu Mang’s meaning was quite clear.

National Master-level skills are difficult to improve.

Even those with mentors find it hard to progress further, yet you, without a mentor, have managed to excel.

Although others won’t confront you about it, it does create a sense of competitiveness.

There’s no necessity to draw attention.

With skills at this level, there is no need to chase other superficial titles.

Now Lu Cheng certainly didn’t need to intentionally prove the extent of his talent: ”Teacher Lu, I’ll give Professor Zhong a call later.”

”That’s right.”

Lu Mang was pleased to hear Lu Cheng’s response: ”Given your selection of workplace and current achievements, some past matters are no longer significant.”

”Even with enemies, past grievances can meet with a smile.”

”Better than fighting vigorously.”

”In reality, clinical practice, treating the sick, and scientific research are far more engaging.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Yes, Teacher Lu.”

”However, on the path you’re on, even if you wish to avoid other entanglements, some things will come seeking you...”

”There’s no need to retreat!~

Now, Lu Cheng certainly does not need to heed to any ’worldly’ rules.

When Lu Cheng’s capabilities are recognized, he’ll be an expert, with guidelines unable to easily constrain Lu Cheng.

Once his name appears in certain associations’ leadership circles, Lu Cheng’s treatments will become the industry standard to align with.
