Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Crossing hundreds of years, Hero Lux once again arrived at Demon King City.

Last time he came, Hero Lux was prepared to sever the cycle forever.

He believed that as long as he completely destroyed Demon King City, the Demon King would have no way to come to this world again, and the world could remain peaceful forever.

In reality, it proved just how naive his thinking was back then.

Faced with the great enemy that was the Demon King, the people of this world temporarily ceased fighting, united by a common enemy, hoping to drive the Demon King back to the Demon World.

Once the enemy, the Demon King, was gone, it wouldn’t take long for humanity to fall apart, engaging in fierce battles for their own interests.

At that time, Lux still held on to a sliver of fantasy, believing this world wasn’t beyond hope. Even if wars occurred, people who recognized the preciousness of peace would immediately stop the wars and find other ways to solve the problems.

But...

Civilians understand the value of peace, and they want to cherish the hard-won peace.

Unfortunately, the nobles who lead them do not allow it.

In victory, nobles sing songs and eat meat, boasting about how wise and courageous their decisions are, immediately forgetting the soldiers who died on the battlefield, turning them into mere numbers on death records.

These people don’t see humans as humans, only as tools, tools that anyone can replace.

In the not-so-distant future, nobles will exercise their power, brainwashing the public, sending them to the battlefield one by one, using their blood and flesh to build their own glorious achievements, using their blood and bodies to seize more wealth.

Not all nobles are the same; some understand the people’s plight, share in the people’s joy, and do not want the people to step into war again.

But among these people, many are just pretending. The reason they empathize with the people and share their joy is merely to display some kind of superiority, not out of genuine sincerity.

They never truly consider solving the people’s suffering or bringing them a better life.

Even if Hero Lux stepped forward, temporarily changing the situation in that area, the area would quickly return to its original state once he left.

After witnessing numerous ineffective lords, Lux grew tired.

To defeat the Demon King, Lux gave his all, brushing with Death countless times, and his body consequently developed some issues.

Lux used this as a reason to find a place to live in seclusion, leading a simple, even somewhat boring, life.

Lux never imagined his peaceful life would be completely disrupted by a Demon Girl who appeared out of nowhere.

After the Demon King’s defeat, many Demons didn’t have time to retreat from this world and were left here permanently.

By then, Lux no longer believed that Demons were necessarily heinous criminals.

It was a Demon who helped him reach Demon King City.

That Demon also hoped for the war to end soon so they could return to their homeland.

Lux once suggested examining the character of each Demon and then deciding their treatment. If they truly showed a desire to change, they should be given a chance.

Before Lux secluded himself, although most countries doubted, they followed this suggestion.

But after he secluded himself, his proposal gradually got forgotten by people.

The guarded Demons began to be executed publicly for various reasons and killed cruelly.

Surviving Demons were forced to hide and seldom welcomed anywhere.

To justify these massacres, the executing countries heavily promoted their rationality, depicting Demon Clan remnants as vicious terrorists.

Governments of various countries offered high bounties to collect the heads of Demon Clan remnants.

Even those unwilling to act were forced to compromise under various pressures.

The Demon Girl Lux rescued had once been imprisoned in a Demon internment camp.

Someone leaked the news in advance, allowing her and other Demons to jailbreak and escape prison.

Escaped Demons scattered, and that Demon Girl inadvertently stumbled upon Lux’s secluded place.

Lux would never forget seeing that Demon Girl, who looked only sixteen or seventeen, attacked by starving Magic Beasts.

If he hadn’t saved her back then, the story that followed would never have begun.

At that time, Lux was still a Hero, possessing incredible strength. He drew his sword and effortlessly dismembered the attacking Magic Beast into eight pieces, saving the Demon Girl.

And that Demon Girl held onto Lux’s leg like she found her lifeline, begging Lux to let her stay, to let her disturb him for a while at his place.

Lux did not refuse.

Afterwards, Lux learned from the Demon Girl’s mouth about the massive execution of Demons.

Lux was deeply pained, tried to do something, but in the end did nothing.

This was cowardice, a retreat, and also a type of fear.

Many countries used his name without consultation while executing Demons.

If he stood up now, it was very likely that he wouldn’t be able to save any Demons and might even bring huge troubles upon himself.

If it was revealed that he wasn’t the real Hero, even if he had fought the Demon King, he might fall into an irrecoverable situation.

In the end, Lux did nothing, only taking the girl back to his place in guilt, taking care of her injuries.

Through conversations, Lux learned the girl’s name; she was called Nanata Liu Li.

Nanata Liu Li was not a combatant of the Demon Clan, just a researcher, someone engaged in ancient text research.

Due to the lack of manpower in the late stage of the war, she was only supplemented into the Demon King’s army as support staff.

Surprisingly, Nanata Liu Li voluntarily joined the Demon King’s army.

Her ancestors had followed the former Demon King to this world a long, long time ago, and found a book with special ancient texts in an Underground Maze, obtaining a copy of that book.

Her ancestors brought back the copy of the book with special texts for research, learning parts of earth-shattering secrets.

Unfortunately, fate played a joke on her ancestors. Before completely deciphering the book, Chaos ensued in the Demon World due to the loss of the Demon King again, and her father’s research results were destroyed in the war, leaving only about a quarter of the pages, which were passed down as a family heirloom.

Since childhood, Nanata Liu Li was influenced by family culture and was very interested in those pages.

Thus, she risked coming to this world, hoping to find the book with special ancient texts and obtain the copy once again to unravel the mystery of that book.

Alas, she didn’t achieve her goal before the door to the Demon World was completely shut, and she was captured due to her identity as a Demon.
