Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Yang Yu feigned surprise and said, ”What a surprise! Many races like to place their gods in a position of supreme importance.

Yet, you claim that the Sea Mother is merely your creator.

In your culture, are subhumans besides the sea-dwelling species created by others?”

Jiao Xi stretched lazily, ”That part I’m not sure about.

But the Goddess Sect I once studied always told me that the world was created by the goddess.

We live in this world, and everything is a gift from the goddess.

At that time, in order to learn Healing, I was truly inundated with the teachings of the Goddess Sect.

My faith wavered several times.

After returning to the Ocean Duchy, I reconfirmed everything about the Sea Mother and finally solidified my belief in her.”

”Since the Sea Mother created you, how did she come to be, how did she create you, and where did your Sea Mother end up?” Yang Yu continued to ask.

Although Yang Yu had also collected various legends, the legends in this world were so vast and complex that his understanding of many of them remained superficial.

Yang Yu also knew part of the Sea Mother’s legend.

But for Yang Yu at the time, the legend of the Sea Mother was just one of many tales.

After listening to Jiao Xi’s words, Yang Yu felt as if he was a step closer to the truth and decided to dig deeper.

Jiao Xi’s answer was somewhat ambiguous but did not disappoint Yang Yu:

”In our culture, the birth of the Sea Mother is rarely mentioned.

It is only said that she was created for a certain mission, and we sea-dwelling species were also created to fulfill a certain mission.

The Sea Mother absorbed our ancestors, who originally lived on land, merging them with the ocean, achieving the various sea-dwelling species we have today.

As for... where the Sea Mother went...

The Sea Mother sleeps in the depths of the distant ocean.

She completed her mission, yet it remains unfinished.

She is waiting for certain people to awaken her, to fulfill her final mission.

To avoid disturbing the Sea Mother’s rest, we sea-dwelling species rarely approach the place where she sleeps.

Only the sea-dwelling species conducting devout pilgrimages would migrate towards the Sea Mother’s resting place.

”

Reflecting carefully on Jiao Xi’s words, Yang Yu glanced at the System, and no new Task appeared on the task panel.

”Aren’t you afraid that someone other than you might step into the Sea Mother’s resting place?”

Jiao Xi gazed at the vast sea and gave Yang Yu an unexpected answer:

”If they dare to intrude into the Sea Mother’s resting place, the race guarding the Sea Mother’s sleep will cleanse them thoroughly.

Even the devout believers can only return after reaching a certain range.

If one ventures deep into the Sea Mother’s resting area, it would be deemed an overstep and would be eliminated by the Sea Mother’s Favored Clan.

Moreover, the Sea Mother sleeps in the frigid abyss of the ocean, and I doubt anyone or any means can reach there.”

”Didn’t you just say that the Sea Mother still has an unfinished mission? If there’s no one, no means, and guarded by a powerful Favored Clan, then how can the Sea Mother be awakened?”

Lifting his head to gaze at the sky, Jiao Xi began to sing a tune unfamiliar to Yang Yu, with the beautiful melody reverberating over the sea.

After singing for less than a minute, Jiao Xi abruptly stopped and asked Yang Yu:

”Did you understand the song I just sang?”

Yang Yu shook his head, ”Is it... the ancient script of your sea-dwelling species?”

Jiao Xi nodded again, ”This is an ancient chant passed down through generations, the script has vanished entirely, and the accuracy of each tone cannot be guaranteed.

Its meaning, however, has been passed down through generations without any change:

’Walk along the starry path, gather the fragments scattered across the sky, piece them together according to clues, and place them in the correct position, then the Treasure Box holding the treasure will appear.

Under the guidance of the fairy that records the world, enter another world unknown to man, and you will find the key to open the Treasure Box.

Only the treasure inside the Treasure Box can awaken the Sea Mother.’

Whoever attains that treasure qualifies to awaken the Sea Mother.

The race serving the Sea Mother and the awakened Sea Mother will obey the one holding the treasure to complete their mission.

This is how our legend concludes.

However, assuming what our culture says is true, if stars are indeed like the Sun, then how do you walk the starry path?

It is precisely this point that leads some to believe the legends are unattainable.”

Pinching his face, Yang Yu pondered quietly, several figures flashing through his mind.

There’s Sena of the Red Blood Rose, her ancestor Yi Zuo, the Guardian Klorchi of the Hall of Power...

The things they have said played like fragments in Yang Yu’s mind.

Yang Yu felt on the verge of a breakthrough, but ultimately, he couldn’t piece everything together in his mind.

Lacking certain evidence and clues, acting on mere conjecture could result in unintended consequences.

Yang Yu needs more clues and evidence; when the dust settles, he will reach his final conclusion:

”Some legends are true. They’ve just become less credible due to embellishment over time.

It is hard to discern if the Sea Mother’s legend is true or false.

Besides these legends, are there any other tales about the Sea Mother that I should know more about?”

Jiao Xi smiled, ”Of course there are. Luckily, it’s quite boring on the ship. Since you’re interested, I’ll slowly tell you.”

Just then, Lingshan came over unannounced, chomping on dried fish, with Luo Hasta in tow,

”It’s been so long, and still no enemies, it’s really dull.

Yang Yu, do you have time?

If so, let’s practice a bit.

We’re on a ship here; let’s not use any skills and just fight using techniques, how about it?”

Yang Yu flatly refused, ”I’m gathering information, so maybe not. Besides, it’s hard to maneuver on the ship. Once we find the Corpse Collection Coffin and make all the preparations, I’ll train and drill with you, so the team can mesh.”

”You better keep your promise. Want some fish jerky? It’s quite tasty.” Jiao Xi happily took out fish jerky from under his armor and offered it to Yang Yu.

Yang Yu waved his hand, ”No, thanks.”

”Well, take your time with your chat. You can come find me anytime you want, I’m always available.”

With that, Lingshan left with a casual farewell.

Luo Hasta sighed but didn’t immediately follow Lingshan. Instead, he spoke to Yang Yu:

”I overheard you talking about the Sea Mother.

There’s a Sea-dwelling Species Ghost at Hualan’s side who claims to be the Sea Mother’s spokesperson.

I can feel that he’s not an ordinary sea-dwelling species.

If you ask him, you might get some useful information.”
