Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

After dinner, back at his lodging, Yang Yu simply organized the content of today’s negotiations and sent it through the Crystal Ball to Minister Ming Dalak.

The first negotiation progressed much more slowly than anticipated.

From this negotiation, Yang Yu was able to see quite a few things clearly.

The Luo Ze Empire did not show the slightest demeanor of a loser; from beginning to end, they embodied the attitude of a rogue or scoundrel.

After speaking those words, the Luo Ze Empire’s negotiation team became gradually silent; however, after a while, they selectively forgot what Yang Yu had just said and started voicing their own demands.

Yang Yu was not surprised by such a result at all.

Regardless of whether they treated everything Yang Yu said as going in one ear and out the other, he had said what he wanted to say.

Yang Yu was also quite pleased that they targeted him so vehemently right from the start, as at least he had managed to establish the image of a negotiator who works for the country and its people.

Unfortunately, from the attitude of the Luo Ze Empire, this negotiation is destined to become quite prolonged.

Just from the series of detailed rules they proposed in the end, it was clear they understood the kind of bargaining chips they held.

At this point, Yang Yu had no choice but to revise his previous thoughts.

What stood before him was not merely an unreasonable, mischievous child, but an extremely shrewd and crafty businessman, trying to sell low-cost goods at high prices.

The impending invasion of the Demon King might become a highly valuable bargaining chip in the hands of the Luo Ze Empire.

Shamelessly moving to say ”The world is about to collapse, we should abandon past grievances and fight against the enemies together,” coupled with, ”Don’t forget the gap in our captives, for so many years you’ve been at a disadvantage, erasing such a huge gap in an instant, we cannot accept this,” or, ”We are building cannons, all for the good of this world,” and so on…

The situation could suddenly become, ”The Beastmen refuse to agree to a ceasefire, and that is their wrong.”

The majority of the people in this world have extremely limited channels of information, and they are very likely to be used as guns.

Heaven knows when some so-called ”chivalrous” individuals will suddenly stand in front of Yang Yu and his group.

Private grievances are not under the protection of the giant dragon rules; otherwise, when Yang Yu was besieged by the Curse Sect, the giant dragons would have acted long ago.

The Luo Ze Empire need only report a small portion of the facts to achieve the effect of killing with a borrowed knife.

Can the Beastmen not also utilize the impending Demon King invasion?

Unfortunately, Yang Yu had especially noted that the Wansheng Country seemed entirely unaware of the imminent Demon King invasion.

Even if they knew, it would be difficult to make an issue out of it, especially when they are at a disadvantage, as it would only give others the opportunity to exploit them, one round of blood-sucking after another.

Boasting about joining the Demon King Army would be seeking death.

Previously, Yang Yu only thought the Luo Ze Empire coveted the fertile Sailuomen Plain, but as he gradually became involved in the war, he realized things were far from that simple.

In many places, the actions of the Luo Ze Empire in this war appeared quite abnormal.

Perhaps what the Luo Ze Empire was pursuing was...

The destruction of the nation, the extinction of the species.

This war is very likely a continuation of humans driving out the Subhumans after the Dark Age.

First, enslave the Subhumans, limit their reproduction, instill a servant mentality so that they kneel for so long they can never stand again. Finally, when their numbers can no longer mount an effective resistance, a single document can seal the silent extermination of the remaining Subhumans.

That is the darkest future Yang Yu could imagine for the Wansheng Country.

The Luo Ze Empire is vexed by having no legitimate pretext for action; since Yang Yu has delivered himself to their doorstep, how could they not take the opportunity? If afterward, the Wansheng Country is truly persecuted to the point of joining the Demon King Army, the Luo Ze Empire might laugh themselves awake from dreaming.

The relationship between Serti and the Luo Ze Empire is unknown to Yang Yu, but at least Serti hasn’t openly supported the Luo Ze Empire.

However, Yang Yu’s homeland, the Terran Republic, extremely detests the war between the two countries. Providing unauthorized assistance to either of the warring countries could at its highest consequence lead to charges of treason.

The Giant Umbrella Chamber of Commerce is exploiting this point, bringing dishonor to the Silver Orchid Commerce.

The Demon King, a thing feared by the world. Joining the Demon King Army, in this world, is an unforgivable act.

Declaring alliance with the Demon King means facing more than just Luo Ze Empire.

So the question arises.

Can Humans and Subhumans really not reconcile, having reached a point where they cannot coexist?

Yang Yu does not believe so.

According to the historical records of the elves, Humans and Subhumans coexisted for a fairly long period, and surely together they had faced the Demon King in distant past.

How did it suddenly reach a point where it could not be reconciled, where one side must perish for the other?

Who led them to nurture such a hateful consciousness? Who instigated and guided this war?

Yang Yu wants to end this war but not just end this war.

If a war that is painstakingly stopped reignites due to some incidents in the future, that would be more displeasing than preparing to defeat a BOSS only to find the file corrupted.

What Yang Yu wants is a truly ended war.

For this reason, letting this negotiation move toward signing an agreement is exponentially important.

Only then can he truly shed the identity of a pawn, turn others into his own pawns, and find the real player behind the scenes.

However, the Luo Ze Empire is too dilatory, their shamelessness thicker than three city walls, more difficult to deal with than anticipated.

Yang Yu had not only overestimated his negotiating ability but also underestimated the Luo Ze Empire’s resolve.

With such an opening, the opponents remained unmoved, the subsequent process would surely be akin to water slowly wearing away stone.

In the end, while water can surely wear through stone, the consumed time would be too extensive, leaving the dish cold before it blooms.

If the chessboard is not tidied up before the next ”Demon King” player enters the scene, this world will likely face peril.

It seems, activating a backup plan is the only option.

Yang Yu truthfully reported the events of today to Minister Ming Dalak.

”Is that so... the Luo Ze Empire is indeed quite obstinate.” Minister Ming Dalak sighed long, ”What do you plan to do next to fight for what our nation truly wants?”

Yang Yu frowned tightly, shaking his head,

”It seems Luo Ze is attempting to secure something from this war.

They plan to borrow momentum, gradually wear down our patience, thereby maximizing their benefits.

But, my concern goes beyond that.

Perhaps they are merely stalling for time.”

”Why do you think so?” Minister Ming Dalak inquired, ”Is the main inducement for them to negotiate you and that great fire? Is time being fought for to find countermeasures against you and the great fire?”

Yang Yu nodded, and replied, ”That’s a possibility.

Using negotiations as a means to buy time is not uncommon in history.

Currently, the Luo Ze Empire most needs time, finding resolutions, organizing troops, rebuilding morale, all require time.

Using this method to buy time is not impossible.”
