The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 664: Chapter 664: Shawn Norton Called to Rush Things Up_1

She didn’t know what was said on the other end of the phone, but she lifted her eyes, glanced over at the hospital bed, then slowly withdrew her gaze, rose to her feet, half-squinting with unbearable sleepiness and a touch of irritation, ”... not yet, right away, let me check the time.”

She looked up at the clock on the wall, the hands pointing to eleven o’clock. She pursed her lips and grunted lazily, ”Let’s have lunch first, I’ll come to you in a bit. Which hotel are you at? Send me the address.”

Amadeus Yancey and Alfred Garland both noticed she was on the phone.

Seeing Amadeus put down his spoon, Alfred, with keen situational awareness, asked Nathalie Quinlan, ”Ms. Quinlan, aren’t you having lunch with us?”

”Just hung up.” Nathalie had just ended her call when she heard his question; she glanced strangely at the sick-looking man lying on the hospital bed, wanting to ask him how they could eat together, but the words changed as they reached her lips, ”I can’t for lunch today. An elder from Beijing has asked me out for a meal, and I’ve already agreed to it.”

On hearing the word ”elder,” Alfred felt relieved.

As long as it wasn’t someone of the same age.

Amadeus watched the girl getting ready to leave and then casually asked, ”Do you want Alfred to drive you?”

Nathalie received a text message from Shawn Norton; she checked the map—Narayan Hotel was not far from City Hospital, right in the McKinney city center area.

She lifted her head, a step slow to react with an ’Ah,’ put away her phone, and looked at Alfred, shaking her head, ”There’s no need, the place I’m eating is quite close, it’s more convenient for me to take a car by myself.”

”Then... be careful on the way.”

Alfred could hear the reluctance in his words.

Nathalie hummed a response, casually adding, ”I’ll send you a message when I get there.”

This seemed to be her way of letting him know her whereabouts.

A smile quickly played across Amadeus’ thin lips; his mood was quite good with his hand resting on his laptop, a bowl of pig liver soup beside him that was more than half consumed. He wasn’t sure if it was psychological or if the pig liver soup really had a nourishing effect, but he felt much better than he had in the morning. Squinting his eyes with a bit of his usual playfulness, he asked, ”By the way, how’s your friend’s grandfather doing?”

Nathalie, already by the door with her hand on the doorknob, stopped when she heard his question and turned around, considering her words, ”He has woken up. But his condition... isn’t too good. I’ve checked his pulse; there’s severe organ failure. This time it’s cardiovascular issues, next time it might be the kidneys, liver, or even the heart. A person’s organs are like machinery; once they’re old, they’re old, and all our efforts can only prolong life, not change the outcome of machine failure. With good care, a few years perhaps. Without it, just two or three years. It depends.”

Amadeus responded with a faint expression, murmuring thoughtfully, ”It’s normal when people get old.”

”That’s what I think too,” Nathalie agreed, as it seemed natural to her; it was unrealistic to live forever.

Just then, Shawn sent another message, asking if she had left. Nathalie replied, raised her hand in farewell to the people in the hospital room, ”My elder is urging me, I need to go now.”

”Alright.”

Click.

The door to the hospital room closed.

Once Nathalie had left, Alfred couldn’t help but let his curiosity show as he asked the man in the bed, ”Amadeus, who is Ms. Quinlan’s friend’s grandfather?”

In his heart, he wondered if he was someone from the past, like Aunt Cagwin’s family, that Nathalie had known before.

Without answering him directly about who it was, Amadeus put away his pig liver soup, focusing his attention back on his work with a detached tone, ”She made a trip to the Wilmar family.”
