The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 654: Chapter 654: I Hope You Stay Away from Me_1

Unrecognized.

A strange number.

With irritation smudged in the corners of her eyes, Nathalie Quinlan picked up the phone call and held the phone to her ear.

”Hello?”

Her voice was hoarse.

Cold and dry.

Thick with nasal congestion.

The person on the other end of the phone seemed surprised that she had answered, hesitating for a full two or three seconds before responding with restrained enthusiasm in a low voice, ”Is this Nathalie Quinlan?”

Nathalie frowned, glanced back at the phone display, noting the location wasn’t McKinney but a Beijing number.

Quite annoyed, she got up from bed, slipped on her slippers, and pulled open her wardrobe while distractedly saying, ”Yes, it’s me. What’s up?”

The person on the other end confirmed they hadn’t dialed the wrong number.

And immediately introduced themselves: ”Hello, Miss Quinlan, I am a teacher in charge of recruiting at Southern University.”

”Here’s the thing, we saw your joint exam results online and wanted to ask if you’re interested in attending our Southern University. We stand on par with Tsinghua University and offer a wider selection of majors and our faculty is top-notch in the country. Additionally, every year we set up a scholarship system. For any outstanding student, not only is the tuition completely waived, but there is also an extra scholarship of about fifty thousand yuan each year. By your third year, there’s an opportunity for a fully-funded exchange program at a well-known foreign university. If you are willing to come, we guarantee you a spot in your cohort’s exchange student program in your third year. What do you think? Are you interested in joining Southern University?”

Nathalie randomly picked some clean clothes from the wardrobe, her headache worsening as she listened to the endless chatter from the phone.

She suppressed the rising irritation, tossed her clothes onto the bed, and said with a cold voice, ”Not interested.”

Very straightforward.

A rejection so straightforward it left the confident recruiting teacher from Southern University stupefied, remembering the pledge made to the principal.

Hastily, they said, ”Miss Quinlan, don’t be too hasty in declining. We can still discuss the terms, like the specific major or scholarship details. Whatever requests you have, just let us know and I will do my best to meet them...”

Nathalie, visibly annoyed, lifted her eyelid to glance at the girl in the mirror, face showing a lack of sleep, then she checked the time on her phone.

Eight-thirty.

A taut string in her mind seemed to snap, she pursed her lips, subduing the iciness in her eyes, and chuckled, ”I hope you won’t call me again. Can you satisfy that wish for me?”

Especially not so early in the morning when others might still be asleep, insisting on calling non-stop as if high on adrenaline until she answered.

”...”

After saying that, without caring for the person’s reaction on the other end, she coldly and indifferently added, ”Hanging up now.”

And then she briskly hung up.

After hanging up the phone, she didn’t rush to freshen up but stood there, scrolling through her phone. Sure enough, aside from missed calls, there were several text messages sent to her phone.

Many as strange as the call she’d just received.

From all over the country.

She picked one of the text messages and opened it.

[Hello, Nathalie Quinlan, I am a teacher from Zenla University. Are you familiar with our Zenla University? Are you interested in joining us? Although Zenla may not compare with Tsinghua and Southern University, it’s still a top academic institution in the country. If you choose to attend Zenla, we guarantee to cultivate you with our best faculty...]

Nathalie took a deep breath, quelling her irritation, and glanced through other messages, all from various universities inviting her to study at Xenia University.

What were these people thinking, disturbing her first thing in the morning?
