The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 662: Chapter 662: The Deepest Pit She Dug for Herself in This Life_1

K.O.!

Alfred Garland was stupefied.

Amadeus Yancey’s facial expression froze, going from initially proud and indolent to a slightly annoyed look now.

Nathalie Quinlan saw it all and, with the corner of her mouth hooked upwards, laughed in a roguishly refreshing manner. She turned and walked toward the sofa, saying, ”I just checked your pulse; you’re recovering well, but you still need to rest. Your main issue is deficiency in qi and blood, but there’s nothing else wrong.”

”Mmhmm.” Amadeus Yancey, feeling defeated, pursed his lips, unable to utter a single word, his head throbbing.

He had always been adept at setting traps for others; he never thought that one day he would fall into a pit of his own making.

That encounter at Waterfront Pavilion was definitely the deepest pit he had ever dug for himself in this lifetime!

If only he hadn’t overthought it at that time; when she asked if he was her boyfriend, he shouldn’t have blurted out that they were just good friends!

Ha, ”good friends” my ass!

In the hospital room, Alfred Garland was still there; seeing him lying on the bed looking sick and sullen, he silently shed a tear of sympathy for him.

”Amadeus...” He opened his mouth, wanting to say maybe you should see the bright side.

As the words reached his lips, they caught in his throat under the faintly dismissive sweep of a pair of sharp eyes, becoming a silent pat on Amadeus Yancey’s shoulder.

Silence is golden sometimes!

”...” Amadeus Yancey’s eyes, which had merely glanced over indifferently before, deepened further; he seemed to casually replace his hand on the table but had already begun to contemplate the possibility of kicking the guy out for some ’life experience’—after all, having such a character around could be quite bothersome at times.

Nathalie Quinlan had already found a comfortable spot on the sofa and settled in. She took out her phone, intending to play a game for a while before leaving.

Unaware of the wordless exchange between the two men, she spoke without lifting her head, ”By the way, I brought you something. You could drink a bowl; it’s good for your health.”

Amadeus Yancey remembered she had entered carrying a thermos and asked Alfred Garland to bring it over.

Alfred Garland, understanding, took a few steps to get it and unscrewed the lid. A pungent smell of Traditional Chinese Medicine wafted out. His brows furrowed tightly, he turned his head and asked the girl nesting there playing games, ”Ms. Quinlan, what is this? It looks like soup...”

But not quite.

Chicken soup is supposed to be milky white with a layer of golden oil on the surface. This wasn’t like that. It looked bland, had a strong smell of herbs, and the color didn’t match.

”Ah, that.” Nathalie Quinlan, with her phone in both hands held horizontally, logged into a game. Her eyelids barely lifted as she spoke casually, ”Pig liver soup.”

”...” Pig... pig liver soup?!!!

Alfred Garland, usually hanging out with Amadeus and his crew, ate the finest ingredients and seldom touched things like pig liver.

Plus, this was the first time he heard pig liver could be made into a soup?!

What kind of witchcraft was this?

Amadeus was supposed to drink this?

Taking advantage of the game loading, Nathalie Quinlan took a moment to raise her head, her dark eyes ink-like and exceptionally beautiful, she explained from a distance: ”Pig liver nourishes qi and enriches the blood. It’s beneficial for those suffering from a deficiency of qi and blood. You might not understand, but think of it as like curing like. The liver is responsible for detoxification; poisoning equals liver damage. Eating pig liver will help you recover faster.”

Like cures like, then.

So Amadeus = pig?

Alfred Garland got it in a second.

Nathalie Quinlan, without thinking too much, noticing their apparent repulsion toward the pig liver soup, added, ”I paired it with some Traditional Chinese Medicine. The taste is all right, not as hard to accept as you might imagine. Don’t believe me? Give it a try.”
