Apocalypse: Goddess Catalog, Starting With Twin Sisters!

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Something That Shouldn’t Be Seen

Chen Jiayi stood charmingly at Mengde’s door.

Perhaps because the weather had turned scorching hot since the apocalypse began, Chen Jiayi wasn’t wearing her usual office attire today. Instead, she was dressed in something much cooler...

A flutter-sleeve t-shirt on top paired with denim hot pants below. A few beads of sweat trickled down her delicate cheeks and over her alluring collarbone. Her long legs seemed to gleam, exceptionally eye-catching.

Her hair was draped over her shoulders, and her alluring lips were pressed tightly together, as if she found it difficult to say what was on her mind.

Mengde had never seen Chen Jiayi dressed like this, but it was even more dazzling than the black stockings she used to wear.

”Mengde... could you... lend me some food...?”

Chen Jiayi seemed genuinely nervous. Three days into the apocalypse had been enough to completely exhaust the sisters’ supplies.

To be precise, they’d run out last night but had managed to sleep through the hunger. When they woke up, their phones still had no signal. With no other options, Chen Jiayi had no choice but to seek out Mengde.

”No problem!”

Chen Jiayi had prepared several different ways to persuade Mengde, so his straightforward reply took her by surprise.

”Don’t worry, Mengde. I’ll pay you back in the future... I...”

Chen Jiayi tried to continue her promise, but Mengde just waved his hand.

”It’s fine.”

”I was about to make some food anyway. You two can join me.”

With that, Mengde grabbed some potatoes, a few ham sausages, and some meat and went to cook.

”Let me help you, then.”

Chen Jiayi said it instinctively. Mengde gave a knowing smile.

”Are you sure?”

Only then did Chen Jiayi realize that with her cooking skills, she’d be lucky not to make things worse. She could only offer an awkward smile.

The sunlight fell on Mengde, making him seem especially warm. The sight was both comforting and reassuring.

Watching Mengde’s busy figure in the kitchen, Chen Jiayi suddenly realized this man was far more handsome than she’d thought, brimming with masculine energy.

’He can cook, and he’s so capable...’

For some reason, her face immediately turned bright red.

’Oh, Chen Jiayi, Chen Jiayi, what are you thinking!’

’How could you have such a dirty thought?’

Mengde cooked often, so in just half an hour, he had prepared a meat dish and a vegetable dish. The delicious aroma soon lured Chen Jiayao out of her room.

”Wow! It smells so good!”

”Brother Mengde, you’re such a good cook!”

After eating nothing but snacks for three days, Chen Jiayao was sick to death of them.

Now, with a single bite of meat in her mouth, she was so moved she was on the verge of tears.

”Delicious! So delicious! Brother Mengde, your ham sausage is so tasty!”

Even as she winced from the heat of the steaming ham sausage, Chen Jiayao didn’t forget to give him a thumbs-up.

[Ding! Congratulations, Host. Goddess Chen Jiayao’s Affinity toward you has increased by 5. Current Affinity: 25!]

’This girl really is adorable.’

”Brother De, thank you! You’re such a great person!”

’Uh... it’s the apocalypse, and I’m still getting friend-zoned.’

Hearing this, Chen Jiayi couldn’t help but smile faintly. Her little sister was so carefree. But as long as her sister was happy, she was happy.

At the same time, her gratitude toward Mengde deepened.

[Ding! Congratulations, Host. Goddess Chen Jiayi’s Affinity toward you has increased by 5. Current Affinity: 35!]

Mengde couldn’t help but smile.

’A sis-con is a sis-con, I guess. I can even get Affinity points for this.’

The meal had used up a good portion of Mengde’s food, but it was still far from enough for three people.

Even after finishing, the two sisters weren’t completely full—only about halfway satisfied—but in an apocalypse where food was scarce, it was an invaluable treasure.

The sisters weren’t unreasonable people. They didn’t complain and voluntarily went to wash the dishes after the meal.

They were already incredibly grateful that Mengde had not only shared his stored food but had also cooked for them. They couldn’t possibly ask him to wash the dishes as well; it was something they just couldn’t bring themselves to do.

Watching the two girls’ lovely figures busy in the kitchen, Mengde smiled slightly. ’Good, they aren’t ungrateful brats with ”princess syndrome.”’

After the dishes were done, the three of them sat down to chat.

The two sisters sat together across from him. If not for the fact that one was pure and sweet while the other was poised and elegant, Mengde might have had trouble telling them apart.

What they had in common was their light makeup, which further accentuated their stunning beauty.

They were both dressed for the heat, their two pairs of long, fair legs pressed together, hiding the view. But just looking at them was a pleasure in itself.

’I have to say, the genes in this family are incredible.’

Come to think of it, this was the first time they had all sat together like this, even though they had been roommates for over half a year.

If it were still the old Mengde, he probably would have been blushing too hard to even speak by now.

Of course, given the job the old Mengde had, he probably never would have had the chance to sit with two goddesses like them anyway.

”You two must have checked your phones yesterday, right? This disaster is global.”

”It’s not just happening here, but in other countries, too. You could call it a true apocalypse.”

The sisters nodded. They had managed to get online last night while their phones still had a connection and looked it up.

Even the internet was in chaos. Netizens from all over the country were posting photos of zombies, and the level of horror was even worse than what they had witnessed themselves yesterday.

”If I hadn’t come home yesterday, I probably would have ended up like my classmates.”

Most of her classmates had turned into zombies.

They’d bite anyone they saw. If just one person in a dorm room turned, the others probably didn’t stand a chance.

It was the same for Chen Jiayi. From the messages in her group chat yesterday, she had learned that several of her colleagues had tragically died.

As the three of them shared what they knew, Mengde remained unfazed. The sisters, however, grew more horrified with every word. Their already haggard faces turned even paler as the hope for rescue seemed to grow ever more distant...

「Afternoon, Day 5 of the Apocalypse.」

Since that one meal the day before yesterday, the sisters hadn’t eaten again.

”Sis, I’m hungry!”

Watching her younger sister clutch her stomach and bite her lip in hunger, Chen Jiayi’s heart ached.

She had seen her sister wake up from hunger several times over the past two nights.

It had been two days, and the sisters had only eaten that one meal. The rest of the time, they had been staving off hunger with water.

”Sis, why don’t we go ask Brother De for some more food? He should still have a lot.”

”Brother De is a really good person.”

Chen Jiayao looked pitiful, like a naive little girl.

For some reason, ever since their conversation, they hadn’t seen Mengde come out of his room.

He just stayed in there, and they had no idea what he was doing.

Plus, the sisters were too shy to have the nerve to knock on his door again.

Most importantly, Chen Jiayi knew perfectly well... ’No matter how much food Mengde has, it’s his. Why should he just give it to us for free? This is the apocalypse, where supplies are incredibly scarce!’

’To put it bluntly, why should a complete stranger like him keep taking care of us?’

’We’re not even related.’

But seeing her sister so hungry she was seeing stars, she steeled herself, stood up, and walked toward Mengde’s room.

”Yaoyao, just wait a minute. You’ll have something to eat soon...”

After two knocks, Mengde’s door opened. But in the next second, something she was not meant to see appeared before her eyes...

”AH!!!”

Chen Jiayi’s face instantly turned blood-red...
