Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 665: Chapter 665: The Original Wife Sold by Her Husband 11

Yuan Chun held the divorce agreement and returned to the police station with Police Zhi to have He Lisheng sign it.

He Lisheng couldn’t wait to get rid of her, a country bumpkin, and readily signed it.

The custody of Niu Niu, mentioned in the divorce agreement, was given to Yuan Chun. He Lisheng didn’t care or ask, hoping Yuan Chun could take away this costly burden.

Yuan Chun also signed her name and then went to the neighboring civil affairs bureau to exchange for two divorce certificates.

Yuan Chun handed one divorce certificate to Police Zhi and said, ”Please, could you give it to him for me? I don’t want to go in and see him again.”

”I understand. You go back to the guesthouse first. I’ll take it in to He Lisheng for you.”

”Thank you, Police Zhi.”

”You’re welcome, Comrade Wang Yuanchun. It’s our duty as the police to alleviate the worries of the people.”

Yuan Chun returned to the guesthouse with the divorce certificate, locked herself in the room, and didn’t come out for dinner. Ye Fan worried she might do something foolish, so she knocked on Yuan Chun’s door with a lunch box.

She knocked for quite a while, but no one answered.

Just as Ye Fan was getting anxious and considering breaking the door open, it suddenly opened.

Yuan Chun, with swollen red eyes, looked at Ye Fan, ”Sister Ye, I’m... sorry, I... I fell asleep and didn’t hear...”

Ye Fan smiled, as if she hadn’t noticed anything, and handed over the lunch box. ”It’s okay. I noticed you didn’t go to the canteen for dinner, worried you overslept, so I brought you some food. Please, take it and eat.”

”Thank you, Sister Ye. Let me get you some money notes.”

”No need, no need. I didn’t get you any meat; it didn’t cost much anyway.”

Besides, whatever she spent, the bureau would reimburse.

”Still, I can’t let Sister Ye spend her money notes.” Yuan Chun returned to the room, grabbed a food coupon and some money from the nightstand, and shoved them into Ye Fan’s hand.

Actually, the money notes Yuan Chun had were also given by the bureau. Since she was a witness, they arranged for her to stay at the guesthouse, with all expenses covered by the bureau.

In short, money flowed from the left hand to the right hand, so Ye Fan accepted the notes.

In the following days, the police comrades continued to pursue the Imperial City human trafficking ring and uncovered many accomplices.

He Lisheng was ratted out by one of Lai Litiu’s accomplices.

He Lisheng was caught, but Lai Litiu fled after catching wind of it.

The police tracked Lai Litiu for several days but couldn’t catch him.

However, they found a lead on Yuan Chun’s two brothers, and following it, the police comrades destroyed a black coal mine, rescuing over a hundred captives forced to work there.

A bedraggled Wang Hongjun and Wang Hongmin, upon seeing their precious sister safe and sound, held her and burst into tears.

They learned that their sister had been sold by He Lisheng.

The brothers were furious and wanted to kill He Lisheng.

Yuan Chun advised, ”Big brother, second brother, don’t act impulsively. He Lisheng has already been caught. It’s only a matter of time before he’s sentenced. Don’t do anything illegal for such scum. This is the Imperial City, not our countryside. Fighting is common in the countryside, but here, you’d end up in the slammer.”

It was only then that the Wang Brothers dropped the idea of beating He Lisheng but were still brimming with anger.

Wang Hongjun cursed, ”That bastard! Better not let me see him again, or I’ll break his legs. Damn it, heartless scum, dares to sell us to the black coal mine. All the kindness we showed him over the years was fed to the dogs.”

”Luckily, we survived thanks to the police comrades. Otherwise, we’d have been worked to death in that black coal mine. The day we arrived, we saw with our own eyes the mine steward beating a man to death.”
