Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 66: 57 Chapters Trying with Dusk Beacon_3

In the zero gravity region here, the wreckage of a spaceship is floating.

If Chen Ming were here, he would definitely recognize that this wreckage is the same spaceship that collided with the dock yesterday.

After all, the maintenance factory is operated by the Space Station, so the investigation into the damaged spaceship naturally fell to the factory in the end.

The factory manager quickly suited up next to the spaceship.

Meanwhile, Old Wu was dawdling beside him, struggling to put on a simple set of auxiliary mobility gear.

Seeing Old Wu like this, the factory manager knew what he was thinking and sighed, saying, ”You just help me get the job done properly, and I’ll count this month’s full attendance for you.”

Old Wu didn’t reply, only yawned suddenly, causing his half-worn gear to slip off again.

The factory manager could only continue, ”Finish this job and there’s a bonus.”

”You should have said that earlier.”

Old Wu immediately became nimble and quickly put on the gear.

Entering the zero gravity region, he began to work with the factory manager’s assistance.

They needed to organize and confirm the reason for the spaceship’s crash.

The quickest way was naturally to extract the black box and the records from those devices that were not completely damaged yet.

For Old Wu, this task wasn’t too difficult.

Teaming up with the factory manager, who operated the heavy external maintenance machinery, he quickly dismantled the spaceship wreckage piece by piece, cleaned and analyzed it, and soon found the black box.

However, neither of them rushed to look at the contents of the black box; instead, they continued dismantling the wreckage.

They planned to fully clean the wreckage, gather all valuable items, integrate them together, and quickly and accurately confirm the cause of the spaceship accident.

The wreckage dismantling was soon nearing its end.

At this moment, the factory manager suddenly discovered something flashing in the last piece, roughly from the spaceship’s engine area.

The factory manager promptly reminded Old Wu, who was working in the zero gravity area, ”Old Wu, look at your right hand.”

Old Wu looked in the direction pointed out by the factory manager and found a needle-like object, as thick as his little finger, lodged inside the spaceship.

At the end of the needle was a signal light, continuously flashing a pale blue light.

The explosion of the spaceship hadn’t left any marks on it—it looked very sturdy.

The factory manager directly came to the edge of the zero gravity area, looking at the needle-like object in Old Wu’s hand, and asked, ”What is this?”

Old Wu replied uncertainly, ”This looks like something from Dusk; it shouldn’t be a weapon.”

He picked up a tool, scanning next to the object, and continued, ”Its internal structure is simple, nothing dangerous. Wait, this thing...”

Old Wu paused, then said, ”This seems like a locator; they might be planning to attack the Space Station.”

Upon hearing Old Wu’s words, the factory manager furrowed his brows in puzzlement and asked, ”What is this thing? What’s the reason? What benefit would Dusk have in attacking the Space Station?”

”I’m not Dusk, how would I know.”

”You can’t be thinking Dusk determined the Space Station’s position to avoid it, right? Or maybe they just wanted to confirm its location without doing anything? Is that possible?”

”Since Dusk went to such lengths, they surely have designs on the Space Station.”

While speaking, Old Wu left the zero gravity area, stood on the Space Station’s ground, and took off his gear.

”Anyway, let’s check the black box first.”

The factory manager didn’t object, and together with Old Wu, they leaned against a pile of records from devices not completely damaged, as well as the intact black box, and reconstructed the previous situation encountered by this spaceship.

This spaceship previously had a companion ship; together, they jumped out of the Superspace Channel to the edge of the Star System where the Space Station is located.

As soon as they exited the channel, they were ambushed by a small squad from the Dusk Fleet that had been lying in wait for a long time.

The other ship was destroyed on the spot, whereas this one oddly had good luck.

All the attacks from the Dusk ships, while landing solidly, managed to avoid hitting positions that could directly sink the ship.

And seemingly due to caution regarding the station’s armed forces within the Star System, this small squad from the Dusk Fleet only operated on the edges of the Star System, without penetrating deeper for pursuit, allowing it to successfully escape back to the Space Station.

Now it seems Dusk deliberately went easy on them.

First, they planted a beacon on the ship, then let it return, thereby locking the Space Station’s location.

Surely, Dusk knew the beacon would be discovered, yet they still went ahead with the plan.

Meaning there’s a significant possibility that the Dusk surprise attack force is already on the way.
