Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 238: Chapter 173: Evolutionary System, United Front

In the Liaoyuan carrier fleet, out of the one thousand two hundred people who used the Evolution Potion, only thirteen actually awakened a Superpower!

”Is there some mistake?” Long Zhan still couldn’t believe it, turning to his deputy to confirm again.

The deputy shook his head with a wry smile. ”I’ve already confirmed it twice. There’s no mistake.”

Zhao Jun, the head of R&D for the Evolution Potion, began to reflect. ”Not all Evolvers can awaken a Superpower. We’ve been too focused on Superpowers and have overlooked the Evolvers who don’t awaken them.”

The previous versions of the Evolution Potion were not mature, with a very low success rate. There had been a few test subjects who only experienced physical enhancement, but the lab hadn’t paid much attention to these non-Superpower subjects.

”So you’re saying that people who can awaken Superpowers are extremely rare and precious?” Wang Jun asked, his brow furrowing slightly.

”You could say that. According to the large-scale tests on Captain Long’s side, the awakening rate for Superpowers in humans is about one percent,” Zhao Jun confirmed with a nod.

Ji Yizhi pondered for a moment before asking, ”What about the physical condition of the Evolvers who don’t awaken a Superpower?”

”They are all more than three times stronger than ordinary people. However, some lean toward strength, while others lean toward agility,” Zhao Jun replied.

”It seems we still know too little about evolution,” Wang Jun remarked with a sigh.

Ji Yizhi nodded in agreement. ”This is a whole new field for us. We’ll have to feel our way through it.”

”And here I thought everyone would awaken a Superpower!” Long Zhan said, a hint of resignation in his voice. ”Based on the current awakening rate, our three fleets combined will only have around six hundred of them!”

”Around six hundred is quite a lot. A force composed entirely of Superpower-wielding Evolvers will be incredibly powerful,” Wang Jun said with feeling.

Ji Yizhi added, ”That’s right. I think we can start using the remaining Evolution Potions as well.”

Wang Jun nodded slightly. ”Yes, let’s use them all.”

This time, Zhao Jun didn’t object. The fact that not a single case of adverse effects occurred among the one thousand two hundred users was proof enough of the potion’s safety.

Wang Jun then composed a message with the results of the Evolution Potion injections and sent it to Ren Yuanyang.

Ren Yuanyang was slightly taken aback when he saw the message, then immediately forwarded it to Lu Jiamei and the others.

”Many thanks to Captain Wang for sharing this information!” Ren Yuanyang replied to Wang Jun. ”We will also continue to conduct related experiments on our end to determine the awakening probability.”

”Understood,” Wang Jun responded.

After reading the message Ren Yuanyang forwarded, Lu Jiamei and the others were also quite surprised.

”So it’s possible to become an Evolver and not awaken a Superpower!” Xin Wan remarked. ”Doesn’t that make our base incredibly lucky? Everyone here awakened a Superpower!”

Lu Jiamei nodded. ”Yeah, I thought awakening a Superpower was the norm.”

”Why does this feel just like a video game?” Qin Haonan said, a sudden idea striking him. ”The three aspects of human evolution are just like the three main stats in a game: strength, agility, and intelligence. They represent the Warrior, the Assassin, and the Mage, respectively!”

Everyone was stunned for a moment. Ren Yuanyang thought about it, then said, ”It does seem that way. All Evolvers with Superpowers can perform ranged magical attacks, just like a Mage.”

”Don’t tell me our world has turned into a video game?” Qin Haonan continued.

”How is that possible? Games have health bars; as long as it’s not empty, you don’t die. Reality is different. In reality, even fatigue can affect your ability to use your Superpower,” Xin Wan immediately countered, shaking her head.

”Not necessarily. Perhaps this world is just a more exquisitely designed game world, one that’s much closer to reality,” Ren Yuanyang replied.

”No way!” Lu Jiamei stared at Ren Yuanyang, her face full of disbelief.

”Have you guys heard of the ’brain in a vat’ thought experiment?” Ren Yuanyang asked with a smile.

Lu Jiamei and Xin Wan both nodded, but Qin Haonan and Hua Wen looked completely lost.

So Lu Jiamei had to give the two of them a brief explanation of the brain in a vat thought experiment.

In simple terms, you take a person’s brain, place it in a vat that can keep it alive, and then connect its nerve endings to a computer. The computer can then feed the brain information from a virtual world...

The brain in the vat believes everything it experiences is real, little knowing that it’s all just virtual information being fed to it by the computer.

”Th-that’s... really possible?” Qin Haonan felt the experiment was just too far-fetched.

”If technology were advanced enough, it’s theoretically possible,” Xin Wan said with a nod.

”So this world is really fake? The flood might be fake too?” Qin Haonan felt like his brain was short-circuiting.

”It’s just a thought experiment; it’s not necessarily true,” Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile. ”And even if it were true, could you escape from the experiment right now?”

Qin Haonan was taken aback for a second, then nodded in deep agreement.

”Whether this world is real or fake, we have to do our best to survive. Only by surviving do we have a chance to learn the truth of this world. So there’s no point in getting hung up on whether it’s real or not,” Ren Yuanyang continued.

Everyone nodded in agreement.

”I’ll share Haonan’s idea with Captain Wang’s side. It might give them some inspiration,” Ren Yuanyang said, immediately composing a message and sending it to Wang Jun.

Wang Jun was slightly taken aback when he received the message. ’A game? Isn’t that a bit too frivolous?’

He shared the message with Ji Yizhi and Long Zhan.

”The people at Peach Blossom Base sure have wild imaginations,” Long Zhan said with a laugh.

Ji Yizhi, however, stared at the message, lost in thought. After a long moment, he finally spoke. ”Looking at the current situation, the direction of human evolution really does resemble the logic of a game. And classifying them this way is actually very rational.”
