Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 226: Chapter 169: Base Pets, New Type of Weapon

Qin Haonan was right. The white mice had indeed completed their evolution four or five days ahead of him. Mice were naturally agile, and since they were all Evolutionary Forms, there was no way Qin Haonan could catch them.

”Why are you trying to catch them?” Ren Yuanyang asked with a smile.

”Huh?” Qin Haonan froze. ”These Evolutionary white mice could damage our base!”

As far as he knew, mice loved to gnaw on things. In a place he used to rent, he’d had pipes and electrical wires chewed through by them.

Although the plants in the Banyan Forest had all been enhanced, these mice were Evolutionary Forms too. He figured the plants wouldn’t be able to withstand them!

”Don’t worry,” Ren Yuanyang replied. ”I’ve already told them not to. They won’t just chew on random things.”

Qin Haonan was even more dumbfounded. ”Chief? You didn’t develop some side effects from the Evolution Potion, did you? Are you hallucinating? They’re mice. How could you have told them anything?”

Before Ren Yuanyang could answer, he pressed on, ”Oh no. You didn’t eat one of those poison mushrooms, did you? Are the ones we got from that survivor still around?”

”What are you talking about?” Ren Yuanyang was exasperated. ”I’m not hallucinating, and I didn’t eat any poison mushrooms! It’s probably because my Mental Energy is special. I can communicate with small animals.”

Ren Yuanyang repeated the explanation he’d just come up with.

Qin Haonan froze again, then exclaimed, ”Chief, your Mental Energy is incredible! If we raise other animals in the future, couldn’t we form an animal army? With jackals, wolves, tigers, and leopards all fighting for us, we’d be unstoppable!”

”It’s a nice dream, but the reality is harsh. Not only can we not find any animals right now, but my Mental Energy isn’t strong enough to communicate with larger ones yet.”

”We can find animals gradually, and your Mental Energy can be improved over time. As long as it’s enough for now, that’s what counts!” Qin Haonan was optimistic. He then asked again, ”Chief, did you let all these Evolutionary white mice out as part of a plan?”

”Nothing so grand,” Ren Yuanyang replied. ”I’m just having them help with patrol duty.”

Qin Haonan’s eyes lit up. ”Does that mean we don’t have to schedule patrol teams anymore?”

Ren Yuanyang shook his head firmly. ”We still need the patrol teams. The mice are just a supplement. For now, don’t spread the word about what they’re doing.”

”I understand, Chief. Don’t worry, I know what to do,” Qin Haonan replied.

After their conversation, Qin Haonan looked at the little white mouse before him and found it looking more adorable than ever.

Just then, Si Youqin hurried over from a distance.

”Minister Qin, we’re spotting these white mice in a lot of places. They’re too fast for us to catch!”

Her voice was filled with worry, but Qin Haonan just smiled. ”No need to catch them. Just tell everyone else not to panic. You can consider them the base’s pets.”

”What? But they could damage the plants!” Si Youqin exclaimed in surprise.

”Don’t worry,” Qin Haonan replied. ”The base will feed them at set times and in designated spots. We’ll also give them things to gnaw on.”

Hearing that the base had already planned things out so thoroughly, Si Youqin nodded slightly. ”Alright, I understand.”

”Don’t forget to tell everyone else!” Qin Haonan reminded her again.

”Okay! I’ll go tell them right away!” Si Youqin turned and left.

Meanwhile, Ren Yuanyang had left the lab and was heading toward the western part of the Banyan Forest.

He found Lin Mu and his group and told them not to hunt the white mice, giving them the same explanation: the mice were the base’s pets.

Lin Mu and the others were just as surprised. ’In times like these, we’re going to keep pets?’

But since it was Ren Yuanyang’s decision, they had no choice but to go along with it.

Ren Yuanyang didn’t tell Lin Mu’s group that the mice had patrol duties, so they naturally assumed they were just pets.

After informing Lin Mu’s group, Ren Yuanyang turned to Wang Feng. ”Let’s go take a look at your bees.”

Wang Feng froze, then said nervously, ”Chief, didn’t we agree to let my bees rest and recuperate for a while?”

Ren Yuanyang was exasperated. ”We’re just going to look, not to harvest honey. With all the flowers in our base, your bees have plenty to eat!”

”Oh, you’re not after the honey! Good!” Wang Feng sighed in relief and led Ren Yuanyang toward the beehives.

When they reached the hives, Ren Yuanyang immediately used his system to enhance five of the bees.

Fortunately, he could now project his Mental Energy. Before, he would have needed to physically touch the bees to enhance them. The worker bees hadn’t been keen on letting him touch them, and frankly, he hadn’t dared to try. Getting stung would have been miserable!

Enhancing the Evolutionary mice had nearly exhausted his Mental Energy. He’d only recovered a small amount in the short time since, so with his limited reserves, he only enhanced five bees.

[Enhancement successful.]

[Enhanced Bee: Flight speed doubled...]

After just a simple flight speed enhancement, Ren Yuanyang found he could command the bees!

’If I enhance the venom in their stingers, these swarms could become a potent offensive weapon!’ Ren Yuanyang thought. ’Once my Mental Energy recovers, I’ll strengthen the queen’s reproductive abilities first!’

Wang Feng, standing to the side, watched Ren Yuanyang’s every move as if guarding against a thief. But in the end, Ren Yuanyang just stood in front of a few hives for a moment before turning to leave.

Wang Feng sighed in relief but also felt a little curious. ’What was the Chief up to?’
