Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Anne Sutton was a little ashamed of herself. ’How could I say something like that in front of my son?’

Ian looked at Anne Sutton and said, ”I want Mommy and Daddy to be together.”

”...”

Anne Sutton looked at him, not knowing how to respond.

...

In the private room, Charles Prescott walked in and froze for a moment when he saw Nathan Fawcett sitting there.

He had heard Nathan Fawcett had gone abroad!

’When did he get back?’

The sight of Nathan Fawcett instantly intimidated Charles Prescott.

”Uncle,” Charles Prescott said.

Nathan Fawcett looked at him. ”Sit.”

Charles Prescott sat down. ”Didn’t you go abroad for treatment? Why are you back? When did you get back?”

He felt uneasy seeing Nathan Fawcett.

The Fawcett Family’s assets were no longer in his hands. Everything now depended on the whims of Nathan Fawcett and Anne Sutton.

’Nathan Fawcett told me to get together with Anne Sutton before. Now he’s suddenly back. He hasn’t changed his mind, has he?’

Nathan Fawcett spoke. ”I want to ask about that child of Anne Sutton’s.”

”...” Charles Prescott looked at him, his heart sinking. ’Nathan Fawcett didn’t ask about this last time. Why is he bringing it up now?’

He rushed to distance himself from it. ”Why are you asking about that? I don’t know anything about it! Anne Sutton ran back home on her own, and then... the baby was gone!”

”She was fine at the Fawcett estate. Why would she run home?”

”...” Charles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett, not understanding why he’d suddenly come and ask him this. ”Did Anne Sutton say something to you?”

’Anne Sutton has control of the Fawcett Family now. She wouldn’t go running to Nathan Fawcett and say something, would she?’

Charles Prescott had been busy the last two days and hadn’t paid her any mind.

Nathan Fawcett’s appearance had indeed caught him off guard. He always felt that Nathan was unpredictable and elusive.

Nathan Fawcett stared at Charles Prescott, his voice cold. ”Did you force her to have an abortion?”

”...” Charles Prescott said, ”No, no, why would I get rid of her child? That was your child, Uncle. I promised Grandpa I would take good care of the Fawcett family’s children. What happened later was an accident. My father and I were both very upset about it.”

He would never admit to something that was disadvantageous to him.

If he admitted it, he probably wouldn’t even have a chance to stay at the Fawcett Group.

Nathan Fawcett watched Charles Prescott and could sense his guilt.

He then recalled Anne Sutton’s attitude toward Charles Prescott when he was back in Westhaven...

’It seems the matter of the child really is related to Charles Prescott, then?’

Although Charles Prescott had said nothing, seeing his reaction now, Nathan Fawcett felt he could already confirm a few things.

...

Nathan Fawcett asked Charles Prescott, ”A few months before Anne Sutton got pregnant, while the old man was still around, were you two together?”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Anne Sutton was the one who initiated it! She wanted to be with me!”

Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. ”Is that so? I’m giving you a chance. If you lie to me again, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

Charles Prescott said, ”I’m really not lying. If you don’t believe me, I still have the WeChat chat logs from back then. I’ll show you.”

As he spoke, Charles Prescott opened his phone and pulled up his chat history with Anne Sutton.

He was a very cautious person, so he had curated the chat history carefully, leaving only messages that were unfavorable to Anne Sutton.

It made it look as if Anne Sutton was very fond of him.

Nathan Fawcett looked at the chat log. It was indeed a conversation between Anne Sutton and Charles Prescott. In it, Anne appeared to trust Charles very much, and her words were very gentle...

Charles Prescott said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Anne and I have known each other since we were kids. She told me she regretted marrying you, Uncle. She said she still liked me. I already had feelings for her, and back then I thought you were gone for good, so I impulsively got together with her. Uncle, if you still have feelings for her, I’ll stay far away from her. I promise I won’t compete with you.”

Nathan Fawcett tossed the phone back to Charles Prescott and looked at him. ”Why did you let Anne Sutton run over here this time? Why didn’t you stop her?”

Charles Prescott said, ”I don’t know why she came over here either! I have no idea what she’s thinking. She doesn’t tell me anything.”

Charles Prescott still didn’t know that Ethan Linden’s child was the one Anne Sutton had supposedly aborted back then.

Naturally, he also didn’t know that Ethan Linden was Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott, seeing that Anne Sutton hadn’t told him about this.

’If the two of them had feelings for each other, if they had a good relationship, if Anne Sutton had really gotten rid of the child for Charles Prescott’s sake, then after learning Ian’s identity, she would have discussed it with Charles.’

’But now...’

Charles Prescott was clearly clueless, still completely in the dark.

Nathan Fawcett said to Charles Prescott, ”Go back to Westhaven and help me investigate the matter of that child. I want to know everything that happened back then.”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott nodded. ”Okay.”

’I can’t believe that after all this time, Nathan Fawcett is suddenly thinking about the child!’

’And he’s asking me to investigate it!’

’Good thing he’s leaving the investigation to me!’

...

’If he investigated it himself, he might actually uncover some clues.’

Charles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”How is your health, Uncle? How many days will you be staying here this time? When are you leaving?”

”I’m leaving tomorrow,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”If you need anything, find Ethan Linden. He’ll let me know.”

Charles Prescott nodded. ”Okay.”

...

After dinner with Charles Prescott, Nathan Fawcett parked his car downstairs from Anne Sutton’s apartment. He stared at the light on in her window, wanting to go up, but then he remembered her attitude toward him. Seeing her would only lead to an argument, so he restrained himself.

...

The next morning, the nanny was at home taking care of Ian, and Anne Sutton went to work at the hospital.

She hadn’t been at work for long when someone called out to her, ”Assistant Sutton.”

Anne Sutton turned around and saw Faye Yorke standing in front of her.

She was wearing a different outfit today, but she still had the same delicate, doll-like face.

Seeing Nathan Fawcett’s fiancée, Anne Sutton said, ”Hello.”

Faye Yorke didn’t know about her past with Nathan Fawcett; she just thought Anne was Anna Linden’s assistant.

Anne Sutton didn’t want to correct her. Besides, she had nothing to do with Nathan Fawcett now.

Faye Yorke asked, ”Is Ms. Linden in?”

”I’m not sure,” Anne Sutton said. ”Why don’t you ask Assistant Chase? She would know better.”

’What kind of assistant to Anna Linden am I, anyway?’

’I don’t know anything about her schedule.’

Faye Yorke looked troubled. ”Could you maybe help me ask? See if she’s here and take me to her?”

”But right now I’m...” Anne Sutton was about to say she was busy, but seeing Faye Yorke’s sincere expression, she relented. ”Alright, I’ll take you to her office first.”

The hospital was huge. If you didn’t come here often, it was indeed hard to find someone.

Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Faye Yorke smiled. ”Thank you so much, Assistant Sutton. You’re too kind.”
