Justin Shields said, ”You didn’t get to see him? How about I help? I can definitely arrange for you to see Ian.”

Anne Sutton glanced at him and said, ”No, thank you. Why are you so eager to help me? We don’t even know each other that well.”

”I just feel bad about what my mother and sister did to you before! So I want to make it up to you.”

”Forget it,” Anne Sutton said. ”You don’t have to do this. All of that is in the past!”

”So you’ve forgiven them?” Justin Shields asked, looking curious.

Anne Sutton shot him a look. ”You’re overthinking it!”

’Forgive Stella Shields and Mrs. Shields? She wasn’t that magnanimous, but Anne didn’t want to get tangled up with that mother-daughter duo any more than necessary.’

Justin Shields said, ”Well, that just means I need to try harder! You probably don’t know much about buying a car, so let me help you take a look!”

After he spoke, he sat down next to Anne Sutton and helped her pick out a car. Anne had been getting a headache from the salesperson, who had been talking for ages without her understanding a thing.

With Justin Shields’s help, things became much simpler.

By the time they finished the paperwork for the car, it was already dark. Justin Shields drove Anne Sutton home and asked, ”Is this where you’re living now?”

”It’s a temporary rental,” Anne Sutton said. ”I’m planning to move. This place is too small, and it won’t be convenient if I have Ian move in with me later.”

’She herself could live anywhere.’

’But Ian couldn’t!’

’He was a young master when he was with Ethan Linden, so in the future...’

’She didn’t want Ian to feel wronged living with her.’

’She didn’t want him to think that being with his mother meant only enduring hardship.’

Justin Shields asked, ”Do you need help with that? I can help you. I happen to have a friend who’s in real estate.”

Anne Sutton glanced at Justin Shields and said, ”Do you have this much free time?”

”It’s a small thing,” Justin Shields said. ”No trouble at all.”

”Your friends are either in car sales or real estate!” Anne Sutton exclaimed.

Justin Shields said, ”If you’re interested, I can make the arrangements for you.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Alright, I’ll have to trouble you then.”

’She had to work during the day, and there really wasn’t enough time in the evenings. If Justin Shields was willing to help her, there was no harm in it.’

’She already owed him one favor, so she didn’t mind owing another.’

Justin Shields said, ”Don’t worry! I’ll take you to see the places once I have everything set up.”

...

Just then, a car pulled up, and a small child got out. ”Mommy.”

Anne Sutton was in the middle of talking to Justin Shields when she saw Ian running toward her.

’She thought she wouldn’t get to see him today!’

’She never expected him to show up here now.’

Anne Sutton scooped Ian up into her arms, looking at him with some surprise. ”What are you doing here?”

Ian planted a big MWAH on her cheek. ”I missed you, so I came! Aren’t you happy to see me?”

’Even though Nathan Fawcett said they could only see each other once a week... if he wanted to see his mommy, no one could stop him!’

Ian had just finished speaking when Nathan Fawcett walked over.

He had changed into casual clothes, not the formal suit he’d worn during the day. Upon seeing Justin Shields, Nathan Fawcett immediately became guarded and asked, ”What are you doing here?”

”I was just out and about with Anne,” Justin Shields smiled. ”I didn’t expect to run into you here. What a coincidence!”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I brought Ian over.”

Justin Shields glanced at Ian, who was being held by Anne Sutton, and said, ”I hear your mother has been setting you up on blind dates recently.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Your sister really tells you everything, doesn’t she!”

’Stella Shields was like a spy in the Linden Family.’

’He couldn’t figure out what Justin Shields was playing at...’

’Did he find out about my blind dates and immediately run over to Anne Sutton?’

’Does he really like Anne Sutton?’

Justin Shields said, ”Well, we’re family!”

Anne Sutton had already carried Ian upstairs.

Seeing this, Justin Shields prepared to follow them inside, but Nathan Fawcett blocked him. ”What are you doing?”

Justin Shields said, ”I was hoping to go in and sit for a bit.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”She needs to spend time with Ian right now. Besides, she’s a single woman living here. What business do you have going inside? She doesn’t even like you.”

”...” Justin Shields said, ”I’m also very sorry about what happened with my family before. Aren’t I sincerely apologizing to her right now?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Who knows what you’re really up to? Don’t come here and bother her!”

Justin Shields raised an eyebrow. ”You two are divorced. What, other people aren’t allowed to pursue her?”

”You, pursuing her? Are you serious?” Nathan Fawcett’s gaze was filled with suspicion.

Justin Shields said, ”I’ve always been serious! It’s just... before, you said she was your wife, so it wasn’t appropriate for me to make a move. But now, aren’t you divorced? So, why not?”

”Anne Sutton doesn’t like you,” Nathan Fawcett said. ”She despises you. It doesn’t matter how hard you try; it’s useless.”

”That’s not necessarily true!” Justin Shields said, ”I’m quite confident in myself!”

”...” Nathan Fawcett shot him a look, couldn’t be bothered to argue with him, and went straight upstairs.

Anne Sutton set Ian down on the sofa and asked, ”Have you had dinner?”

”No,” Ian said. ”I was waiting for Mommy to come back and cook for me!”

”You haven’t eaten this late?” Anne Sutton said. ”From now on, even when Mommy isn’t with you, you have to eat properly. Don’t starve yourself! What if you don’t grow tall?”

”Oh.” Hearing this, Ian was genuinely scared by what Anne Sutton said!

’Yep, he had to eat well from now on!’

’He had to grow up tall and strong to protect his mommy.’

Nathan Fawcett walked in through the door, his face darkening as he looked at the mother and son.

Anne Sutton glanced at him and said, ”What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with your Ms. Yorke?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Ian insisted on coming to see you, so I brought him! He’s a real handful when he gets clingy, as you well know.”

Ian retorted, ”You’re the one who’s a handful.”

Anne Sutton watched the little guy’s defiant expression and the corners of her mouth lifted into a slight smile.

Just then, Justin Shields also walked in. ”Anne.”

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Why did you come up?”

Justin Shields held up the bag in his hand, which contained the documents and receipts from the car purchase. ”This... you forgot it.”

”...” Anne Sutton was a little embarrassed. She had been so happy to see Ian that she’d completely forgotten about it! ”Thank you for bringing it up.”

”Don’t mention it,” Justin Shields said. ”I’ll just leave it here for you then.”

After speaking, he glanced at Ian and said, ”Ian, I’m leaving now! I’ll come find you to play next time.”

Ian nodded.

When Nathan Fawcett saw that Justin Shields was only dropping something off before leaving, the tension in him eased.

’He was at a loss. It was just as Justin Shields had said; he and Anne Sutton were already divorced.’

’Whether he was Nathan Fawcett or Ethan Linden now, it had nothing to do with Anne Sutton anymore.’

...

’But seeing Justin Shields approach her so brazenly still made him uncomfortable.’

Anne Sutton went into the kitchen to cook something for Ian.

’She hadn’t planned on eating dinner herself, but now she felt she couldn’t let the child go hungry.’

She walked through the doorway, and Nathan Fawcett followed her in.
