Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

She knew Nathan Fawcett had made these arrangements because he might never come back again.

After all, he had to maintain his identity as Ethan Linden.

Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett into the car, ready to head back. She looked at him and asked, ”You planned all this from the start, didn’t you?”

Nathan Fawcett replied, ”What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy? You’ve always hated Charles Prescott. When we got married, all you wanted was everything the Fawcett Family possessed. I’m giving it to you now. Isn’t that good?”

Anne Sutton looked at him as tears fell. She reached up to wipe them away. ”I didn’t want all this. I just wanted to see Charles Prescott suffer.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”The decision is in your hands now. You’re free to do whatever you want with him in the future. For now, though, he’s still useful. If you find a better candidate later on and don’t need him anymore, just kick him out. Your status has changed. He won’t dare treat you the way he used to!”

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton asked, ”What about you?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Didn’t we already agree? I have my own business to take care of. I’m very busy, so I can’t come here anymore. I wouldn’t feel comfortable handing the company over to anyone else, but I’m happy to give it to you. Our marriage... I’ve wronged you. You’ve suffered a lot because of me these past few years. This is what you deserve.”

”...” Anne Sutton started, ”About the divorce...”

”I’ve already had the papers drawn up. I’ll have the housekeeper give them to you later.” Nathan Fawcett said to the driver, ”Let’s head back.”

The driver started the car.

Anne Sutton sat beside him, gazing at the city scenery outside. She realized that she had finally gotten everything she wanted, but she wasn’t as happy as she’d expected.

When they returned to the Fawcett residence, Anne Sutton discovered that the people who took care of Ian were all gone.

The house was empty. Usually, Ian would run to greet her when she came home, but not today...

She asked, ”Where’s Ian?”

Nathan Fawcett replied, ”I already sent him back to Veridia.”

He had gone with the fake Ethan Linden.

After all, this was the only way to make people believe the ruse and avoid arousing the Linden Family’s suspicion.

It was the best possible plan.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. He had said he was leaving, but she never thought Ian would be gone so soon.

Anne Sutton said, ”But you said next month...”

Nathan Fawcett replied, ”I’m heading back tomorrow night. I’ll be gone for good once things here are mostly wrapped up.”

”...” Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at him. ”Does this mean... I’ll never see you again?”

Hearing her question, Nathan Fawcett said, ”Isn’t that a good thing? You’ll be free! We’re divorced, and I’ve given you everything the Fawcett Family has. You’re a free, wealthy woman now! With money in your hands, no one will dare to bully you again.”

”...” Listening to Nathan Fawcett, Anne Sutton felt that her own reaction was strange.

’He’s right!’

’Isn’t this everything I ever dreamed of?’

’I’ll never again...’

’Never again will I have to walk on eggshells around Charles Prescott or put up with his abuse.’

...

But looking at Nathan Fawcett, she felt a pang of regret she couldn’t shake.

’He may have a sharp tongue, but he’s been too good to me!’

’So generous it almost made her feel embarrassed.’

Seeing her staring at him with eyes full of sorrow, Nathan Fawcett raised his hand and pinched her cheek. ”What are you crying for? Cat got your tongue from all the excitement? With money, you have everything! You’re free to be with whomever you want. Besides, you can’t stand the sight of me anyway. You won’t have to put up with my temper anymore.”

’He knew marrying him had been a great injustice to Anne Sutton.’

’After all, there were times when even he couldn’t stand himself!’

’He really did have a terrible personality, and he hadn’t been good to her.’

’So after everything she’d been through with him for so long, he knew he had to compensate her properly.’

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”What do you want to eat? I’ll go make you dinner.”

She didn’t know what else to say at that moment, so she could only change the subject.

Nathan Fawcett replied, ”Anything’s fine.”

Anne Sutton had just gone into the kitchen when the housekeeper came over and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”Mr. Prescott is here. He says he has something to discuss with you.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton, who was busy in the kitchen, then stood up and walked out the door.

...

Charles Prescott had already entered and was standing at the entrance of the Fawcett family’s main house. When he saw Nathan Fawcett, he said, ”Uncle.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at him. ”What are you doing here?”

Charles Prescott walked over. ”Are you really giving the company to Anne Sutton?”

’This was something Charles Prescott had never expected.’

’So Nathan Fawcett only came back to get revenge for Anne Sutton?’

’The thought of Anne Sutton controlling everything the Fawcett Family owned... of having to be at her beck and call... of taking orders from a woman who knew nothing about the business... He just couldn’t stomach it.’

Nathan Fawcett said, ”She married me and bore me a child. Isn’t this what she deserves? Even though that child is gone now.”

Charles Prescott said, ”Don’t you know about her and Ethan Linden? The person she likes now is Ethan Linden. The two of them are incredibly close.”

’He refused to believe that Nathan Fawcett would still make this decision after learning all this.’

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett narrowed his eyes and looked at Charles Prescott. ”Why are you coming to me with this?”

”I just think...” Charles Prescott said, ”You don’t need to give her everything in the company. She’s just a woman. She doesn’t know anything.”

There was a hint of male chauvinism in Charles Prescott’s words.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”You should be glad she doesn’t understand the business. Otherwise... why would I still need you?”

’If Anne Sutton could run the Fawcett Group on her own, he would never have kept Charles Prescott around as a mere employee.’

’Her expertise was in being a doctor...’

’So for now, the company could only be left in Charles Prescott’s care.’

Charles Prescott choked on his words.

Nathan Fawcett continued, ”Charles Prescott, don’t think for a second I don’t know how you’ve treated her these past few years. I’m giving you a chance now, not because I’m ignorant, but because I’m giving you an opportunity to turn over a new leaf. If you try to pull any tricks on Anne Sutton again, or cause her any more grief, I won’t let you off the hook.”

Hearing this, Charles Prescott said, ”I don’t understand what you mean...”

”After the news of my death spread, didn’t you get together with her? Weren’t you two dating?”

Charles Prescott froze. He stared at Nathan Fawcett in astonishment, shocked that he knew even this!

Nathan Fawcett pressed him, ”Did it happen or not?”

Charles Prescott stammered, ”That was... She was the one who initiated it... She wanted to be with me!”

How could Charles Prescott dare admit that he was the one who got together with Anne Sutton back then?

If Nathan Fawcett found out the truth, he would eat him alive!

So, his only option was to push all the blame onto Anne Sutton.

Listening to Charles Prescott, Nathan Fawcett said, ”That’s right. So you should be glad you two have some history. If you hadn’t been fooling around and having a child with someone else back then, she would never have come to me. Since you were the one who got involved with her, you should have treated her better! If you truly want everything the Fawcett Family has, it’s not impossible. Marry her, and it will all be yours.”
