Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Charles Prescott said, ”There are some things I have to say now, or I’m afraid I’ll never get another chance. After all, you’re with Ethan Linden now!”

Anne Sutton replied, ”Good, as long as you know I’m with him.”

Charles Prescott said, ”Anne, I want to hug you.”

”...” Anne Sutton stared at him. ”Are you a psycho?”

Seeing her angry expression, Charles Prescott just chuckled. ”Alright, I knew you wouldn’t want to. Actually, I came here today because I have a gift for you.”

”A gift?” Anne Sutton looked at him, finding it strange.

’Is he trying to give me another disgusting gift?’

Charles Prescott stood by the window and said, ”Look.”

This floor was quite high, offering a view of the distance.

Hearing him, Anne Sutton looked over in surprise and saw lights flicker on across the building opposite them.

It gets dark early now that the weather is cold.

On the building’s scrolling screen, words appeared:

”Charles Prescott is sorry, Anne Sutton.”

”Anne, give me another chance!”

...

It was so conspicuous that it wasn’t just Anne Sutton who saw it; everyone else did too.

The reason Anne Sutton had broken up with Charles Prescott was because Sylvia Warren had come to the hospital and turned her into a laughingstock.

From that day on, everyone knew that Anne Sutton, as Charles Prescott’s fiancée, was nothing but a joke.

Charles Prescott had another woman—and a child—right under her nose. He didn’t care about her at all!

But now...

He was here, so publicly declaring that he was wrong!

Everyone in the entire hospital saw it.

Anne Sutton looked up at Charles Prescott, finding him both unfamiliar and childish. Her voice trembled with anger. ”Charles Prescott, are you out of your mind?”

’Damn it, everyone knows I married into the Fawcett Family now. He’s supposed to call me ”aunt”...’

’He used to only dare pester me in secret, never wanting to be publicly associated with me. And now this? Has he completely thrown all shame to the wind?’

Charles Prescott said, ”I caused you to lose face at the hospital before. Now... I’m helping you get your dignity back. I know I let you down, Anne. I’ll make it up to you from now on.”

”If you have a problem with your brain, you can get it checked out in neurology. I can even recommend a good doctor for you.” Anne Sutton was furious. Seeing her name displayed next to his just made her feel disgusted!

However, she had no idea how he’d managed it. Perhaps as President Prescott of the Fawcett Group, he just had that kind of pull.

The lights just stayed on.

When Anne Sutton got off work and left her office, she found all her colleagues staring at her.

’This is so mortifying!’

That psycho Charles Prescott always had a knack for creating awkward situations.

She went to her car and drove out of the parking garage.

She saw Nathan Fawcett standing at the intersection.

He was staring at the scrolling text on the building across the street, his thoughts unreadable.

Seeing him staring so intently, Anne Sutton felt a pang of guilt for some reason.

She rolled down her window and cleared her throat. ”Nathan...”

She thought about how they had been together recently. Even though they hadn’t discussed the future, Nathan Fawcett had been so gentle and good to her lately. So now, with her name displayed next to Charles Prescott’s, she couldn’t help but feel like she had let him down.

Hearing her voice, Nathan Fawcett glanced at her before opening the passenger door and getting into the car.

Seeing his serious expression, Anne Sutton said, ”Charles Prescott just showed up and started acting crazy, I have no idea what’s gotten into him! He’s probably just trying to dig for information about tomorrow’s meeting, so he’s doing this deliberately to be disgusting. I’m sorry, I don’t know what to do about it.”

Nathan Fawcett sat in his seat and said, ”He seems quite passionate about you all of a sudden. I wonder what’s changed.”

Anne Sutton said, ”I don’t know either! It’s like he’s a psycho! When would he ever have done something like this before? You saw his attitude at the company last time!”

Anne Sutton was simply speechless.

What he did was his business.

But causing trouble for her like this was unbearable!

Nathan Fawcett glanced at her and said, ”Let’s go home.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, wondering if he was reading too much into it. She started the car and drove home.

「...」

Ian was already waiting at home!

He was very happy to see them return.

Lately, Nathan Fawcett had been picking Anne Sutton up every day!

「...」

Anne Sutton got home reasonably early today.

The housekeeper had almost finished making dinner.

She had followed the instructions Anne Sutton gave her.

After a few days of practice, the housekeeper’s skills had improved.

At least in Anne Sutton’s opinion, the housekeeper’s cooking was now almost as good as her own.

Seeing Ian run over to her, Anne Sutton picked him up, carried him to the dining table, and asked, ”Have you eaten yet?”

”Not yet.”

”Then why not?”

Ian said, ”I wanted to wait for Mommy to come home so we could eat together.”

Anne Sutton said, ”You don’t have to wait for me, really. You should eat when you’re hungry!”

Ian looked at Anne Sutton. ”But the housekeeper’s cooking isn’t good at all.”

”...” Anne Sutton glanced at the housekeeper, who was standing to the side, looking completely speechless at Ian’s comment. ”The housekeeper worked so hard. You should at least show her some courtesy.”

”I’m serious!” Ian said. ”My mommy’s cooking is the best in the whole world.”

”You silly boy,” Anne Sutton said. ”You’ve barely tried anyone else’s cooking. How would you know what’s the best in the world?”

”I just know, that’s all!” Ian looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”Mommy, how was work today? Did anyone bully you?”

”No.”

”Then are you tired?” Ian was such a sweet talker.

Coming home every day, Anne Sutton felt like she had a little charmer living with her.

She chatted with Ian for a while and made sure he ate plenty.

Nathan Fawcett sat to the side, watching how lively Ian became around Anne Sutton. ’Once we go back,’ he thought, ’Ian will have to return to his old life, a life without a mother.’

「...」

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett and asked, ”Why are you so quiet? What are you thinking about?”

Nathan Fawcett answered casually, ”I’m thinking about tomorrow’s meeting.”

Anne Sutton asked, ”How confident are you?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I’m one hundred percent certain.”

”...” Hearing this, Anne Sutton was a little surprised.

’Isn’t he being a bit too overconfident?’

Seeing the doubt on her face, Nathan Fawcett said, ”You should eat first.”

With that, he went upstairs.

Anne Sutton watched his back, then turned to look at Ian.

Ian watched Nathan Fawcett’s retreating back and said to Anne Sutton, ”See, Mommy? Daddy also thinks the housekeeper’s cooking isn’t as good as yours! If you had cooked, he would have finished it all by now.”

The housekeeper said awkwardly, ”I still need to work harder.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Actually, you’re already doing a great job.”

”It’s still a far cry from your cooking, ma’am.”

Anne Sutton gazed at Ian. He was sitting right in front of her now, but if everything really went smoothly tomorrow...

’Once Nathan Fawcett takes him back home, I’ll never have the chance to cook for him again.’
