Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Just then, Butler Walters took out some documents. ”This is Mr. Fawcett’s proof of identity, just sent over from the police station. If you have any doubts, you can check it for yourself and see if the man sitting before you is Nathan Fawcett.”

After the butler finished speaking, the secretary next to Miles Prescott reached out and took the documents. They had made more than one copy—in fact, there were many—and distributed them to all the board members present.

Seeing Nathan Fawcett’s identity document, everyone was shocked. ”It really is Nathan!”

”How can Nathan still be alive?” Miles Prescott couldn’t understand.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”It seems you’d prefer I wasn’t alive, brother. Did my return interfere with something?”

Ever since Nathan Fawcett passed away, Miles Prescott had been acting under the pretext of looking out for his younger brother, claiming he would take good care of the Fawcett Family on his behalf.

Although he was no saint in private, in public he put on the act of a doting son and a model older brother.

So for Nathan Fawcett to ask this now was, naturally, a bit of a slap in the face.

Miles Prescott denied it. ”No, of course not. If you are Nathan, I would naturally be very happy. It’s just... Nathan is already gone...”

Grace came in from outside, stood next to Charles Prescott, and whispered with her head down, ”Ethan Linden really did go back to Veridia. He left this morning.”

”...” Charles Prescott was a little stunned to hear this.

He looked at Nathan Fawcett across from him. ’Could this man before me really be Nathan Fawcett?’

Nathan Fawcett asked, ”Then tell me, who is the person sitting in front of you?”

Miles Prescott stood up, walked over to Nathan Fawcett, and grabbed his arm.

The butler froze for a moment. ”Mr. Prescott.”

Miles Prescott, gripping Nathan Fawcett’s arm, said, ”Nathan has a scar on his arm from when he saved Owen Grant. I don’t believe you have one too.”

After speaking, he yanked down Nathan Fawcett’s sleeve.

Nathan Fawcett was wearing very loose clothing today!

The sleeve came down with a gentle pull.

A scar appeared before everyone’s eyes, clear as day.

Miles Prescott hadn’t expected it. He really had one. He was astonished...

He had originally thought the man before him might be Ethan Linden in disguise.

After all, Ethan Linden was alive, and Nathan Fawcett was dead.

But now, seeing the scar on Nathan Fawcett’s arm, he was completely taken aback.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Miles Prescott and said, ”Do you have anything else to say, brother?”

Miles Prescott said, ”Are you really Nathan Fawcett?”

Nathan Fawcett pulled his hand back. ”While I was recuperating, my father also passed away. Thank you for all your hard work taking care of everything at the company, brother.”

Miles Prescott looked at Nathan Fawcett. With Nathan’s identity confirmed, he had well and truly lost.

Although they were both Chairman Fawcett’s sons, if he had been facing Ethan Linden, he could have still put up a fight. But against Nathan Fawcett, he didn’t stand a chance.

Even the original plan to have Charles Prescott inherit the Fawcett Family was predicated on the assumption that Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t live long.

Chairman Grant, who had been sitting to the side, stood up after witnessing the scene. ”Since Nathan is still with us, it’s only natural that he calls the shots for the company! What does everyone else think?”

Seeing that it was indeed Nathan Fawcett, the others naturally had no objections.

They all voiced their support for Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett sat in his seat, watching them. Now, not a single person uttered another word of dissent.

Even the Prescott father and son duo no longer argued. They knew that the more they said, the more mistakes they would make.

’Damn it!’

’Why is Nathan Fawcett still alive?’

’His health was already failing!’

’The doctors had already given him a death sentence!’

’How could he possibly still be alive now?’

Anne Sutton stood beside Nathan Fawcett, glancing at Charles Prescott and his father. She was in an exceptionally good mood.

’After watching them act so smug for so long, I can finally see them get their comeuppance!’

Seeing that everyone had acquiesced to his presence, Nathan Fawcett spoke up. ”Due to my health, from now on, everything related to the Fawcett Family will be handed over to Anne Sutton. She is my wife and once carried my child. In the future, she will manage everything at the Fawcett Group.”

Hearing this, Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett in astonishment.

’What did he just say?’

’He’s giving her everything from the Fawcett Family?’

’Granted, for Nathan Fawcett, he has the Linden Family now, so he might not care about the Fawcett Family’s assets.’

’But this was everything the Prescott father and son had schemed after for most of their lives.’

’And now he’s just giving it all to her?’

’Is he kidding?’

Upon hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, most of the people present were not supportive. ”Nathan, you’ve been sick, so you might not know, but Anne Sutton has been very close with that Ethan Linden lately. Since you’re alive, we think you’d be better off divorcing a woman like her! How can you hand over the entire company to her?”

Nathan Fawcett looked up at Anne Sutton, then addressed the others. ”I am going to divorce her.”

Everyone froze when they heard that.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. Hearing the word ”divorce,” she stiffened.

Nathan Fawcett continued, ”After the divorce, I will gift all of the Fawcett Family’s assets to her. For someone like me... she has suffered too much by being with me. This is what I owe her! I hope that in the future, you will all support her, for my sake.”

”...” The meeting room was full of people. Anne Sutton heard Nathan Fawcett’s words and stared at him in disbelief. ’What is he saying?’

’He wants to divorce her?’

’And he’s giving her the entire company?’

’Everyone must think he’s lost his mind!’

’She was starting to suspect it too.’

But the look in Nathan Fawcett’s eyes was resolute.

Chairman Grant said, ”Anne isn’t familiar with the company’s operations. Wouldn’t it be too rash to hand it over to her?”

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Miles Prescott and Charles Prescott, who were sitting to the side. ”From now on, the company’s affairs will still be managed by my brother and Charles.”

Charles Prescott was a capable manager.

And Nathan Fawcett truly couldn’t find a more suitable candidate.

Hearing this, Charles Prescott was surprised. He looked at Nathan Fawcett. Just moments ago, he had thought he was about to be kicked out of the company!

’I never expected...’

Nathan Fawcett glanced at Charles Prescott and asked, ”Do you have any objections?”

Charles Prescott replied, ”None. Thank you, Uncle.”

Some things were simply not his to fight for.

To still have a position in the company and be able to continue doing what he loved was, for Charles Prescott, already a joyous outcome.

Anne Sutton stood to the side, unable to say a single word.

When the meeting ended, Nathan Fawcett coughed twice and said to Anne Sutton, ”I’ll have Chairman Grant handle all the procedures. From now on, everything in this company is yours to decide.”

”...” He was completely calm as he spoke.

Anne Sutton looked at him. ”You had this planned all along?”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Let’s go back first.”

It wasn’t convenient to talk in front of everyone.

After he spoke, he stood up and had the butler help him out the door.

Anne Sutton stood rooted to the spot, feeling tears stream down her face.

...

She had never expected this to be the final outcome.

From the moment she married him, all she had been after was Nathan Fawcett’s inheritance. She never thought that today, she would actually get it.

...

’But why... why did her heart ache so much?’
