Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Stella Shields grew even more anxious. She said, ”Anne Sutton, can you stop being so selfish? Honestly, Nathan hasn’t been bad to you. If you blow this up and ruin everything for him, could you live with yourself? He grew up without a mother and he’s finally living with her now. If his identity as Nathan Fawcett is exposed, she won’t be able to let him stay in the Linden Family.”

”He’s never cared about me, so why should I care about him?” Anne Sutton glanced at Stella Shields and said, ”All I want right now is the child.”

”...” Stella Shields said, ”I really can’t stand you! You were the one who abandoned the child, and now you’re blaming Nathan! I don’t know what kind of bad luck Nathan has to be stuck with a woman like you.”

Anne Sutton ignored what she was saying. She had nothing to talk about with Stella Shields.

...

After leaving the Linden estate, Anne Sutton returned to Westhaven.

She went to see the Director and asked him to handle her work transfer.

The Director was very surprised to hear she wanted to transfer to Veridia. ”Why? Veridia is so far from home! You’re doing so well here!”

Anne Sutton was actually quite skilled at her job.

Anne Sutton said, ”I have things to take care of over there. If you don’t approve it, I’ll have to resign.”

”...” It was the first time the Director had seen Anne Sutton be so resolute, even threatening to resign. He was startled and quickly said, ”No, no, if you want to go, then go! As it happens, we have an opening for a study program there. I’ll arrange it for you.”

Seeing the Director agree, Anne Sutton breathed a sigh of relief.

For Ian’s sake, she had to go to Veridia.

No matter what, she could never abandon her child.

...

Back at home, while Anne Sutton was packing her things, her phone rang.

She glanced at it and pressed the answer button. It was a call from Charles Prescott. ”I heard you’re transferring your job to Veridia?”

’He’s certainly well-informed,’ she thought. ”It has nothing to do with you.”

”How does it have nothing to do with me?” Charles Prescott asked. ”What are you going to Veridia for?”

”I’ll do whatever I want,” Anne Sutton said before hanging up.

Charles Prescott stared at his phone, completely unable to understand her.

’Her whole family is here, and she’s running off to Veridia? How could she be so reckless!’

...

Before leaving, Anne Sutton made a trip to the hospital. Her mother was still hospitalized, but she was being looked after and her condition had improved greatly.

Sharon Sutton also came by from time to time to help out.

After arranging everything, Anne Sutton left for Veridia.

She went to handle her onboarding paperwork, and Vera Wells came to pick her up. Vera was delighted to hear that she was moving to Veridia to be with her. ”You’re really coming? I thought you were kidding! I saw in the news that you took over the Fawcett Family and are now the Chairwoman of the Fawcett Group.”

Anne Sutton looked at Vera Wells, but couldn’t bring herself to smile.

Seeing her looking so troubled, Vera said, ”You finally got your revenge on Charles Prescott, so why aren’t you happy? If I were you, I’d be over the moon, you know?”

Anne Sutton said, ”I came here to handle some things.”

”What kind of things?” Vera asked. ”It’s not about Ethan Linden, is it? I heard you’re with Ethan Linden now. Is that true? From the looks of it, did he dump you?”

”...”

’Her imagination is something else,’ Anne thought. ”It has nothing to do with that.”

”Then what is it? C’mon, share! I’m dying of curiosity.”

Anne Sutton sighed. ”Let’s talk about it tonight.”

”Alright!”

That evening, the two of them went out for dinner.

When she heard Anne Sutton say that her child was still alive, Vera Wells was stunned. ”Are you saying your child is with Ethan Linden?”

Anne Sutton nodded.

”Isn’t that the little guy who ran into the hospital before?”

”Yes,” Anne Sutton said. ”I only just found out myself.”

”For them to take your child and not tell you... that’s really going too far.” Vera knew better than anyone how devastated Anne Sutton had been ever since she lost that child.

That child was the source of her unbearable suffering for the past few years!

Even her hatred for Charles Prescott stemmed from that.

Anne Sutton looked at Vera Wells and managed a small smile. ”It’s actually okay. If you look at it another way, at least he’s alive in this world. And he’s growing up well, isn’t he?”

”Yes,” Vera said. ”I’ve seen him a couple of times before. He’s absolutely adorable. But... Anne, let me be honest with you. Trying to take the child back from the Linden Family is unrealistic. The Lindens are not people we can afford to provoke. Even though you’ve inherited the Fawcett Group now... you’re still no match for them. The Linden Family is too powerful. Very few people are willing to cross them. To be honest, the child is living well with the Lindens. Maybe you should just let it go.”

”...” Anne Sutton looked at Vera Wells. Hearing her own best friend tell her to let it go, Anne didn’t respond.

She knew Vera was just looking out for her, but she didn’t know how she could possibly ”let it go.”

It was unbearable for her when he had to leave, and that was before she even knew he was her son. How could she possibly bear it now?

Seeing Anne staring at her, Vera knew she’d said the wrong thing. ”It was just a suggestion. Ultimately, it’s up to you. I know how much you love this child. This is all just so tragic. Come on, let’s have a drink. Finish this and go home and get a good night’s sleep.”

Anne Sutton nodded. ”Okay.”

After they finished dinner and parted ways, Anne Sutton went to her place.

She had rented an apartment here.

Since she was working here now, it was only natural to settle down here.

Moving here also meant she could see Ian whenever she wanted.

As Anne Sutton stepped out of the elevator, she saw someone standing at her door. It was Charles Prescott.

She was very surprised to see him. ”What are you doing here?”

”To see how you’re settling in, of course.” Charles Prescott said, moving to follow her inside. ”Have you been drinking?”

Anne Sutton didn’t look at him.

Charles Prescott continued, ”I could understand you drinking when you were unhappy these past few years. But you’re the Chairwoman of the Fawcett Group now. You’ve finally crushed me under your heel. What’s there to be unhappy about?”

’He used to be the reason for her unhappiness! But now, she still seemed just as miserable...’ Charles had no idea what was wrong with her.

Anne Sutton said, ”What did you really come here for?”

”To check on you, of course. I happened to have some business to take care of here anyway.”

Anne Sutton said, ”I’m fine. You can leave. Don’t come here again.”

Charles Prescott said, ”Come on. I came here out of kindness to check on you. Can’t you be a little more civil?”

Anne Sutton ignored him, stepped inside, and shut the door.

Charles Prescott stared at the closed door, utterly speechless.

’She’s a completely heartless woman now! No matter how hard I try, she won’t even spare me a single kind look! We grew up together and were even engaged once. How can she be so cruel?’

After leaving Anne Sutton’s place, Charles Prescott drove home.

The moment he got home, he saw Mia Shaw.

Mia Shaw looked at him and said, ”I heard you were coming. Why didn’t you tell me? I could have picked you up.”

Charles Prescott said, ”I’m here for work.”
