Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

With that, he walked over and sat down.

Before, whenever Anne Sutton saw him, she found him terrifying, intimidating. Even in bed, she was constantly afraid he might just... drop dead.

But looking at him now, she found him rather easy on the eyes.

’He wasn’t so bad, after all.’

In fact, his every gesture was filled with an elegant, aristocratic air...

He had always been a man of noble birth. He just never cared what others thought, and his intimidating presence made people naturally fear him.

Anne Sutton asked, ”What were you just doing?”

”I was bored, so I watered the flowers by the door. Go on, make dinner. I’d like to eat something you’ve made.”

”...” Hearing this, Anne Sutton replied, ”Okay.”

She hurried into the kitchen to cook for Nathan Fawcett.

’His flight is at six this evening. That means after this meal, he’ll have to leave soon.’

Anne Sutton stood in the kitchen, glancing at him through the glass. ’From now on, we’ll be in two different worlds!’

’So be it.’

...

After she finished cooking, she packed some of the food into a thermal container and said to Nathan Fawcett, ”You can take this to Ian later.”

Nathan Fawcett nodded. ”Mm.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Just have the nanny heat it up when you get there. If you want anything in the future, just ask her to make it for you. She’s a good cook.”

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett nodded again. ”Mm.”

’The nanny already went back with Ian yesterday!’

Anne Sutton sat beside Nathan Fawcett, making idle chitchat. She herself had no idea what she was even saying.

After dinner, she helped Nathan Fawcett pack his things, and then she went with him to the airport.

Using his identity as Nathan Fawcett, he bought an international ticket. The official story was that he was going abroad to recuperate.

After returning to Veridia, he would resume his identity as Ethan Linden, so he couldn’t let anyone know he had been using the Nathan Fawcett identity here.

...

Besides, by leaving as Nathan Fawcett, he wouldn’t arouse suspicion from Charles Prescott and his father later on.

Anne Sutton followed behind Nathan Fawcett into the airport while Butler Walters went to handle the check-in procedures.

Anne Sutton stood before Nathan Fawcett, gazing at him. Their divorce was already finalized.

Now, there was nothing between them.

She stared at him, wanting to say something, but not knowing how to begin.

Her mind drifted back to the first time she had seen him in Veridia...

He hadn’t been here for very long, but so much had changed since then.

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, the words she wanted to say on the tip of her tongue, but she just couldn’t force them out.

Just then, a familiar voice called out from the side, ”Nathan.”

Anne Sutton looked up and saw Miles Prescott and Charles Prescott approaching. ’I can’t believe they came too!’

Seeing the two of them, Anne Sutton, who had been on the verge of speaking, now found herself at a loss for words.

Charles Prescott walked up to Nathan Fawcett and said, ”Uncle.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”What are you doing here?”

”We heard you were going abroad to continue your recuperation and we were worried, so we came to see you off,” Miles Prescott said. ”Have a safe trip. Don’t worry about things here; we’ll help take good care of our sister-in-law.”

As he spoke, he glanced at Anne Sutton.

Miles Prescott’s relationship with Ethan Linden was extremely strained.

But when facing Nathan Fawcett, he always acted exceptionally warm and familiar.

He knew full well that if he had a complete falling out with Nathan Fawcett, he would walk away with nothing.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”Then I’ll leave her in your hands, Brother.”

”Don’t you worry!”

Charles Prescott stood to the side, looking at Nathan Fawcett. ”Take care, Uncle.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at Charles Prescott and said, ”I hope you remember what I told you yesterday.”

”...” Charles Prescott faltered for a moment. Hearing Nathan’s words, he glanced at Anne Sutton and nodded. ”Mm.”

They chatted for a little while longer before Butler Walters walked over. ”Sir, it’s time,” he said to Nathan Fawcett. ”We should go in.”

Nathan Fawcett nodded, glanced at Anne Sutton, and said, ”I’m leaving.”

With that, he and the butler headed for the security checkpoint.

Anne Sutton stood in the vast, crowded airport terminal, yet she felt utterly alone, as if she were the only person left in the entire world.

Miles Prescott, who happened to be flying elsewhere, also went through the security checkpoint.

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton. Seeing her standing there, staring in the direction Nathan Fawcett had disappeared, he said, ”Let’s go back.”

Anne Sutton shot him a cold glance, turned, and walked away without a word.

’Who is this ”we” he’s talking about?’

’I hardly know him.’

Charles Prescott followed beside her. ”Anne, let me take you home.”

”I don’t need you to.”

”At this point, you’ve already divorced Nathan Fawcett. Are you still not willing to be with me?”

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott, finding his words laughable. ”Why should I have to be with you just because I divorced him?”

”Uncle told me to take good care of you.”

”...” Anne Sutton froze. ”When did he say that?”

”When I came to see him yesterday,” Charles Prescott said. ”He also said that you still have feelings for me, and that what happened before was my fault. I truly know I was wrong now. Anne, please give me another chance. Can we start over? I promise I’ll never hurt you like I did before. Please?”

”You’re saying Nathan Fawcett told you I have feelings for you?” Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott in disbelief.

Charles Prescott nodded. ”Yes, he told me so himself.”

”...” Anne Sutton couldn’t believe it. ’He actually...’

’Told Charles Prescott to take care of me!’

’And he actually thinks I like Charles Prescott?’

...

Anne Sutton felt utterly exasperated. She said to Charles Prescott, ”Even if he said that, I won’t get together with you. I don’t have any feelings for you! Maybe I did once, but after all the ridiculous things you’ve done, I stopped liking you a long time ago.”

’She wasn’t an idiot. Why else would Charles Prescott be so nice to her now? It certainly wasn’t because he liked her.’

’He just wanted everything the Fawcett Family owned!’

’After all, she was now the Fawcett family heiress.’

’Marrying her would bring him enormous benefits.’

’He was a calculating schemer, through and through!’

Anne Sutton started walking toward the exit. Charles Prescott followed her. ”Don’t follow me,” Anne said.

Hearing her words, Charles Prescott had no choice but to stop and watch her leave.

...

’Things really have changed!’

’Before, she was always the one by his side, but now, she wouldn’t even spare him a glance!’

...

Anne Sutton returned from the airport to the Fawcett Residence.

As soon as she walked in the door, she collapsed into bed and fell asleep.

’Now that Nathan Fawcett was gone, he was never coming back!’

’Even the nanny had gone with him. She was truly all alone here now!’

Although Nathan Fawcett had replaced all the staff after taking the house back from Charles Prescott and his father, and everyone here now answered only to her, she still felt the place was empty.

’She would miss him, and she would miss Ian...’

Anne Sutton buried her face in her pillow and slept.
