High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1190: Chapter 252 Two Tubes of Blood

Tuesday evening, the small garden in front of the teaching building still served as their meeting place.

Jiang Yu met Elena at the gazebo in the center of the garden, handing over a small vial of pink blood to the Gypsy witch.

”How beautiful,” Elena sincerely exclaimed as she took the vial, ”So there really is pink blood in this world... like a pea under nine layers of quilts; I had always thought it was just a fairy tale.”

Jiang Yu looked somewhat pale and tired.

Before she could speak, Elena continued, ”I heard that Li Meng fainted again yesterday, and I thought you would cancel today’s exchange... It was Zheng Qing who told me; he was at the scene as well.”

”It was an accident,” Jiang Yu said softly, inspecting the eyes of the Gypsy witch, ”Last night after I assigned homework to Xiao Meng and went deep into the library to look for books... She must have fallen asleep, sleepwalked out the door, and accidentally stumbled and fell. The school infirmary has conducted an examination; there are no external injuries, and the Mage Alliance wizard from the School Works Committee who handled the situation also gave the assessment that Xiao Meng appeared to be asleep at the time...”

”It’s good that she’s okay; no accident is the best outcome,” Elena gently patted her chest, seemingly relieved, and her face brightened with optimism, ”A girl with pink blood generally won’t have too bad luck...”

”That’s because I used magic to desensitize the blood,” Jiang Yu briefly explained the reason behind the blood’s color, ”It won’t affect the vitality or essence of the blood. And it can protect Meng Meng’s safety to the utmost extent. Even if there’s an accident or mishap with your magic circle, it won’t cause any harm to Meng Meng.”

The Gypsy witch held up the vial of pink blood, carefully examining it under the moonlight, and softly replied, ”Very necessary, very reasonable.”

Jiang Yu let out a small sigh of relief.

She had been worried Elena might be dissatisfied with her handling of the blood, ”Before coming here, I kept considering that if you couldn’t use the desensitized blood, then I wouldn’t have been able to help with this... It’s best that you don’t mind.”

With a gentle smile on her face, Elena pulled out a long piece of parchment from her pocket,

”This is a magic contract publicly notarized by Danhag Notary Office, which includes rights, obligations, and a confidentiality clause. Take a good look, and if you have no objections, sign it.”

Jiang Yu took the parchment.

The terms of the contract were very detailed. For instance, they specified the degree and scope of support the Gypsy Witch Coven would provide to Jiang Yu, clarifying that they would not support any internal strife within the Jiang Family; furthermore, the contract clearly described the purpose of the small vial of blood, even providing the principle and simple schematic of the magic circle—In Jiang Yu’s view, it was indeed a highly dangerous magic ritual, but not without a chance of success.

The combination of danger and opportunity reinforced the reliability of the contract.

Most importantly, the contract laid out the arbitration clause and arranged for limited third-party supervision rights. The arbitration clause established that in events where the contract contravened the will of the signatories, the contract could be declared void; the contract must avoid playing with words and ambiguities, and so on. These terms effectively eliminated traps like the ’Mephistopheles contracts.’

The arbitrating body for the arbitration clause was filled in as the Danhag Arbitration Committee, which belonged directly to the Mage Alliance, making it a highly authoritative body. Yet behind the line for the limited third-party supervision rights was a blank space.

”Here?” Jiang Yu pointed to the blank space, looking puzzledly at the Gypsy witch as if to ask why it was blank.

”Oh, that,” Elena glanced at it and then averted her gaze, continuing to examine the vial of pink blood in her hand, cheerfully explaining, ”I thought if I arranged all the content of the contract, you might feel uneasy. So I left the third-party supervision rights open for you to handle... You can appoint a third party that we both find acceptable.”

This arrangement was so thoughtful that after Jiang Yu fully reviewed the entire contract, she felt she could sign it directly, ”For the third-party supervisor, do you have any suggestions?”

Elena did not answer immediately.

A mysterious smile appeared on her face, ”If you don’t mind, we can decide on the third-party supervisor when you visit to oversee the procedure this Saturday... Trust me, we will find a suitable third party.”

With that, she returned the long-examined vial of pink blood back to Jiang Yu’s hands.

As stipulated by the contract, Jiang Yu would be responsible for the entire usage process of the Spirit Witch Blood.

...

North District of Beta Town, Gu Diao Street.

The Sakura Pub on the ground floor.

It hadn’t yet reached nine o’clock when the pub had closed for the night.

In the deserted bar, only two witches sat across from each other at the counter.

One was the owner of the pub, the Vice-President of the Student Union at First University, Wiccan Colma; the other was the Gypsy Witch Elena, who had just rushed over from the small garden in front of the September School’s classroom building.

”Here is the Spirit Witch Blood you asked for,” Elena handed a small tube of fresh red blood to Colma with a light tone, ”I prepared it yesterday, but I haven’t seen you return... Did you get that piece of wreckage?”

”Yesterday? She agreed to let you have this blood?” Colma eyed the Gypsy Witch suspiciously while taking out a cylindrical glass jar from a drawer under the counter. Inside the jar was a piece of dark yellow, seemingly rotten wood that was anything but impressive.

But Elena knew that the power of many things in The Magical World could not be judged by their appearance. For instance, the infamous Federation Collection No. 173 merely looked like a simple concrete statue, yet any life form that overlooked its existence would have its destiny’s neck snapped.

This piece of ’rotten wood’, stored in a glass bottle covered with seals and a Magic Barrier, spoke volumes on its own.

”No, she did not agree to let me have this blood,” Elena’s reply confused Colma, ”But it doesn’t matter, this doesn’t affect your use of the blood to activate this ’wreckage’.”

Colma’s gaze grew more serious.

”Where exactly did this blood come from?”

”It was borrowed from a child... I have a contract with her guardian.”

”Explain clearly!” Colma’s voice became a touch more stern, ”I know the guardian you’re talking about is Jiang Yu, and the Spirit Witch Blood comes from Li Meng... But you just said Jiang Yu didn’t grant you the rights to manage and use the blood?”

Realizing she couldn’t be vague about this matter, Elena finally sighed and explained, ”The blood indeed comes from Li Meng. After I lured her out of the library yesterday, I cast a confusion spell and a sleeping spell on her to draw the blood. Don’t worry, no one suspected anything... And indeed, I do have a contract with Jiang Yu, she is responsible for providing Spirit Witch Blood. Moreover, she will accompany us to the Magic Circle activation ceremony this Saturday...”

”I am aware of that part, we’ve all agreed to it,” Colma interrupted Elena, taking the small tube of fresh red blood and furrowing her brow, ”What I want to know is, why go to the extra trouble?”

”Because we all know the Jiang Family would never give us the real, complete Spirit Witch Blood... An earlier meeting confirmed that. What she brought us was desensitized blood. None of us can guarantee that the incomplete blood wouldn’t be the final straw to break the Magic Circle.”

Colma let out a soft sigh,

”So you’re saying, you took two tubes of blood from that poor kid?”

”No, just one; the other was taken by her cousin,” the Gypsy Witch corrected.

”Why?” the pub owner asked back.

Why go through all the trouble, why deceive her contractor.

”It’s a precaution,” Elena bent her fingertips and tapped on the glass jar, a smile curling up at the corner of her mouth, ”To ensure we used blood in perfect condition and to ensure the Spirit Witch Blood we used now has a legal source.”

”And, I hate the way she presents herself before me... every aspect of her. Watching her in her foolishness brings me joy.”

Colma kept her lips tightly sealed, choosing not to comment on the Gypsy Witch’s actions.
