High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1175: Chapter 237: 10 Weekends

As May approached, the grass grew taller, the orioles sang, the daylight lengthened, and the weather warmed.

Most notably, the robes worn by the witches were becoming increasingly cooler. The young warlocks’ interests, originally subdued with the changing seasons, were now stirred anew by the teasing flaps of those cool robes.

On a Sunday afternoon.

Normally, Elena and Zheng Qing would be studying together in the library, but for some unspoken reason, the witch said she was busy, and the warlock considerately expressed his understanding. Thus, Zheng Qing had no choice but to do homework with Xiao Xiao.

Xin Fat Man had been running new reports for the past two days and had been all but invisible.

He arrived at the library in a hurry just before the scheduled meeting and sought out his two friends to copy their homework.

”We can’t keep doing this,” Zheng Qing admonished while handing over his Curse Course homework to the Fat Man, ”There’s only a month and a half until the final exams, are you planning on being the next Nicholas?”

According to the school’s academic schedule, the spring semester’s ’class suspension, review, and examination’ period was set from June 9th to June 19th, and today was already April 26th.

All in all, there was only forty-three days left before the final exams, less than a month and a half.

When he calculated the exact days, even Zheng Qing himself was startled. He had merely meant to give the Fat Man a casual admonishment, but hadn’t realized just how quickly time had passed.

”A month and a half?” Xin Fat Man was clearly startled by Zheng Qing’s words, ”I thought this semester had just started?!”

”From a macroscopic perspective, time tends to stop; but from a microscopic perspective, time exhibits characteristics similar to ’acceleration.’ So the feeling of time passing more quickly is not an illusion,” Xiao Xiao analyzed solemnly.

Zheng Qing and Xin Fat Man looked at each other, unsure how to continue. The Doctor always managed to turn a simple topic into something profound.

Zheng Qing pulled out his pocket watch, glanced at the time, and habitually poked the case but didn’t poke through.

”It’s better for you to go to the classroom and catch up on your homework; the atmosphere there is better,” Zheng Qing turned to look at the Fat Man who was searching for a seat and suggested, ”The library is too stuffy; I think you might fall asleep while doing your homework.”

This was no lie.

Compared to the tranquil library, the slightly noisy classroom indeed made it easier to stay alert. As for whether the noisy environment would affect their thought process, that clearly wasn’t a concern for those copying homework.

Xin Fat Man immediately accepted Zheng Qing’s suggestion.

”Let’s go, let’s go.” He grabbed the homework he had snatched from Zheng Qing and Xiao Xiao, and hurriedly rushed out, ”Hurry up, and we can grab a good spot... Duan Xiaojian has been competing with me for the second-to-last row by the window recently; he’s so treacherous.”

Duan Xiaojian is Duan Xiao Jian; due to his somewhat sleazy appearance and constant opposition to the Fat Man, he had been nicknamed Xiaojian.

Before leaving, Zheng Qing took one last look at the usual spot where Elena sat and suddenly remembered something he had overlooked.

”Have you heard of ’Locking Luo Gate’? The lock from a lock, not a ’so.’” He recalled the magic circle built by the witches in the Secret Realm World and tried to gather some details from the Doctor.

Xiao Xiao gave him a sidelong glance.

”Why did you go so early?” His tone was slightly displeased, ”The material on this topic is in the deepest part of the library. If you want to borrow it, you need a professor’s approval, and you can only read it at the table next to the corresponding bookshelf. It can’t be taken out.”

”’Locking Luo Gate’ is a secret magic circle improved by Babylonian Mage Team’s Grand Magus John Dee, designed to communicate with some indescribable entities deep in the starry sky. Although it largely alleviated the original magic circle’s side effects, its poor applicability meant it ultimately didn’t get passed down.”

Zheng Qing ignored Xiao Xiao’s comment about ’poor applicability’ and noticed a key point,

”So, you mean to say that this kind of magic circle has already been lost?”

”Did you discover the ’Locking Luo Gate’ magic circle?” Xiao Xiao squinted his eyes, looking at the young cost student.

Zheng Qing shook his head firmly, ”I just asked casually... I forgot where I saw the name, but it seemed interesting.”

Xiao Xiao snorted loudly from his nose, clearly not believing his companion’s excuse.

”What if,” Zheng Qing, unabashedly thick-faced, continued to ask, ”what if I saw someone setting up the ’Locking Luo Gate’... would that be dangerous?”

”Of course.” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, ”It’s said that wizards associated with the Babylonian Mage Team tend to have worse luck... If I were you, I’d cover my ears upon hearing that name.”

”Why didn’t you cover your ears?”

”Because I am not you.”

During the conversation, the two had already reached the outside of the library.

Zheng Qing was considering doing something to improve his and Elena’s fortunes, but then noticed that Xin Fat Man hadn’t rushed to the classroom as he had imagined. Instead, he was standing by the roadside, holding a stack of homework, and looking deeply at something.

”What are you doing?” Zheng Qing pushed the fat man.

”I’m trying to catch the tail of spring,” the fat man replied poetically.

Zheng Qing raised an eyebrow and followed the fat man’s gaze toward a group of giggling witches nearby. They were laughing and frolicking, dressed in thin, long robes. Light seemed to pass through the hem of several skirts. His mouth twitched, realizing what the fat man was looking at.

”That’s called a ’Linglong Silk Skirt.’” Xiao Xiao, also noticing the direction of his companions’ gazes, spoke timely to explain, ”It’s one of the most popular types of genuine spun wizard robes for ladies these days. Compared to those variants that shorten the wizard robes, this style is more readily acceptable to the public... You could buy one for Elena.”

The witches seemed to notice the warlocks’ gaze from the roadside, and a few looked up in their direction.

The fat man unabashedly widened his eyes and even whistled silently; Zheng Qing, however, still had a bit of shame and quickly dropped his eyelids, retracting his gaze, and shuffled his feet as if observing ants at his feet.

”Aren’t they cold,” he muttered, tugging at his collar and fanning himself. Although it was just a brief glance, it had stirred up a feeling of heat within him.

”Truly a sign of declining morals.” Xiao Xiao shook his head, pulling the fat man toward the classroom while asking, ”What report have you been working on these days? Why are you so busy?”

The fat man, reluctantly dragged away from the roadside, replied, ”What else could the report be about, other than ’Jiuyou Academy has another conscientious student’ or ’The hypocrisy under the masks at Alpha Academy’? Seriously, I’d rather keep squatting in North Beita Town, observing the lives of tricksters, than argue with another bunch of people in the newspapers.”

”That kind of topic, it’s like a mud pit; once you’re stuck, you can’t avoid getting dirty.”
