High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1173: Chapter 235 Gaze

When the moon was high in the sky, the adventure team on their second secret realm exploration finally made their way back home. Throughout the busy day, having encountered no risks, the two witches were able to devote themselves wholeheartedly to the construction of the ”Locking Luo Gate” magic circle.

Based on this progress, the team leader, Sister Korma, optimistically estimated that they could choose the right moment to activate the magic circle next Saturday. This was a great relief to the black cat.

After all, slinking into the Silent Forest every Saturday was not, it thought, a particularly wise choice.

Heaven knows how many covetous glances were secretly sizing it up in the dark depths of the forest.

Of course, as long as there were no accidents, even if Korma’s task of building the magic circle continued for another month, it would not have too much effect on the black cat.

Because the black cat’s day’s work was roughly eating, sleeping, and catching rabbits.

In the morning, Korma had arranged for the black cat to carve the ”Old Seal” on a clay board, but after the black cat’s claws shattered the third clay board, the witch, unable to bear it any longer, picked up a broom and banished the black cat from the construction area of the Array completely.

”Your biggest contribution today was not getting close to our magic circle,” Korma praised the black cat upon leaving the secret realm world.

While the comment sounded sarcastic, the black cat, looking into the witch’s sincere eyes, was somewhat unsure of what to think.

Even if it wasn’t sarcastic, it hardly counted as a compliment.

The black cat couldn’t think of an appropriate response, and in the end, it simply meowed like an ordinary cat.

When Elena heard the black cat’s ’meow,’ for some reason, she suddenly burst out laughing.

The black cat gave her a puzzled glance.

”Cough,” the witch wearing the white mask immediately coughed softly, then turned to Korma and said, ”I mean, today we’ve essentially finished laying out the magic circle... Are we coming back next week?”

Korma stretched lazily and let out a long breath.

”I don’t know!” she answered emphatically.

Perceiving the surprised looks of her two companions, the witch scratched her head, her face revealing a trace of trouble, ”A little accident occurred... I had planned to use the blood of a Spirit Witch as a catalyst for the Array, but the negotiations haven’t been making progress... A few days ago, the Wandering Bar reportedly received a batch of ’Flesh of Their Descendants,’ which is more effective than Spirit Witch Blood as a catalyst, so I’m thinking of talking to a Wandering Wizard in the next few days, to see if I can get some.”

A catalyst is what kickstarts a magic circle, akin to a reactive agent in a Magic Potion, serving to catalyze and guide the spell. Common catalysts in Magic Rituals include sacrifices, offerings, gemstones, talismans, etc. Therefore, hearing Korma’s plan to use flesh and blood as a catalyst for the ”Locking Luo Gate” did not come as a surprise to her two companions.

Nonetheless, the word ’Spirit Witch’ did pique the black cat’s interest. It just so happened to know that there was a Little spiritual wizard in its class, with a rather nasty temper, who also fainted from time to time at the start of the term.

Wondering if the Spirit Witch Korma mentioned was the one it knew, the black cat flicked a passing Mousewife away with its paw, then rubbed its claws against the moss on the roots of the nearby tree, the thought crossing its mind.

”Wandering Wizards are dangerous,” Elena said softly.

The Black Cat nodded in agreement, wanting to provide an example but realizing that most of the cases he knew would expose his identity. In the end, he could only vaguely mention some hearsay, ”It is said that he comes from Palermo, and you know what sort of place that is, right? Without exaggeration, there are more Black Wizards in Palermo than there are White Sorcerers at First University...”

The words of the Black Cat induced a slightly reckless laugh from Korma.

”Without exaggeration?” She bent down, looked at the Black Cat, her eyes filled with laughter, ”If you tally the number of all the wizards from Palermo over a thousand years, see if they even match the number of wizards currently at Jiuyou Academy in a single institution.”

The Witch’s ponytail hung obliquely, touching the Black Cat’s forehead, making it feel a bit ticklish. A whiff of a delicate fragrance hit him, leaving the Black Cat breathless. And the sight of the deep V-neck opening of the Witch’s robe only made the Black Cat squint.

The Black Cat couldn’t help but arch his back and raise his tail. He felt the fur around his neck bristle in that moment, not out of danger, but out of a vague tension in the face of the unknown.

”Alright, alright, it was just a metaphor.” The Witch wearing a white mask swiftly dragged Korma away, pulling her outside the forest, her tone slightly annoyed, ”It’s already very late, let’s head back now.”

Only after the figure of the Witch had disappeared did the Black Cat feel he could breathe a bit easier.

”You are still a cat now!” He walked a few steps, feeling his steps slightly stiff, annoyed within himself, ”You should act like a cat!”

Another Mousewife scurried past the fallen leaves in front of the Black Cat.

The Black Cat swung his paw and pressed it onto the Mousewife, turning her into a mush. This time, he didn’t even bother to clean his claws, just followed the two distant figures dejectedly.

...

...

”Ouch, damn it!”

A short curse came from the thicket deep in the forest, ”Doesn’t this brat have any sense of the law? Is he not afraid of violating the ’Wizard’s Code’, committing the crime of second-degree murder?”

Fei Rui was sitting on the head of a white Mouse-Wolf, covering one ear, looking rather annoyed. The Mousewife that the Black Cat had just flattened was the transmuted ’ear’ he had sneakily extended.

Rat Immortal by his side, a bit bored, looked up at the remaining bits of the crescent moon and after a while spoke, ”Expecting a Wizard from the forest to abide by the ’Wizard’s Code’ is already a joke... Moreover, if I remember correctly, second-degree murder usually encompasses the Zodiac animals.”

”You’re so ill-informed,” Fei Rui immediately retorted, ”As far as I know, cats, tortoises, and many types of birds are all within the scope. There are precedents.”

”But it definitely doesn’t include tide bugs,” Rat Immortal stated firmly.

Fei Rui opened his mouth, then eventually took out a handful of dried beans from his bosom and started chewing them. Cracking them between his teeth, he mumbled to change the subject, ”What do you think, did those two girls recognize him?”

”My girl isn’t familiar with him, so what difference does it make whether they recognize him or not,” Rat Immortal seemed protective of Korma, and malicious towards the Black Cat, ”But I think that Gypsy Little Witch must know something... Your master is in trouble.”

”Damn it!” Fei Rui pushed the chewed beans to the sides of his cheeks, puffing up his face as he exclaimed, ”What master?! I’m not a pet! I’ve just been staying at his place for a while! Staying!!”

”Yeah, yeah, staying,” Rat Immortal with some effort propped himself up, patting Fei Rui’s paw comfortingly, ”It would be more persuasive if you hadn’t kept using the name he gave you.”
