High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1183: Chapter 245: Determined to Win

On the eleventh Monday night, at Beta Town Pedestrian Street, Wandering Bar.

The work of the student council had been slightly delayed, and by the time Korma arrived at the Wandering Bar, it was already a quarter past eight.

The large green frog at the door was yawning out of sheer boredom, looking forward to the end of its shift for the day. So when it saw the witch, its mood was less than sunny. It took an especially long time checking her invitation, which meant that the entry tag the witch received was coated with a thick layer of mucus.

Korma didn’t mind one bit. She didn’t even bother to pull a handkerchief out of her pocket to wipe the silver-white tag, instead casually rubbing it against her skirt.

”The Wandering Wizard is inside, right?” she asked indifferently, glancing at the big green frog before hurrying to ask.

The large green frog seemed startled by the witch’s gaze, quickly swallowing its tongue back and nodding its head in a hurry, mumbling a ’yes.’ But the witch lacked the patience to listen carefully to its murmur, directly pushing open the door and entering the Wandering Bar.

The big green frog sighed softly behind her.

Since it was a school day, there weren’t many customers in the Wandering Bar. The few young wizards who were there wore hooded cloaks, hiding their faces in the deep shadows; as if this made them feel a bit more comfortable about their debauchery.

Noticing the new witch who entered, a few young wizards seemed inclined to greet her. But upon seeing the witch’s face, these young wizards simultaneously lost the urge and retreated back to their booths, pulling their hoods down even deeper.

The vice president of the First University student council, the temperamental Witch Korma, was not someone many a young man dared to fancy.

The witch paid no mind to the emotional tumult of the young warlocks in the bar. When she reached the counter, the Multi-arm Tribe Attendant, with his hands flying in all directions, was concocting fine drinks for a few patrons. Upon receiving Korma’s entry tag, one of the attendant’s idle arms pointed backward:

”Walk straight down the corridor, turn at the end, go upstairs... the first room on your right. The others have already arrived.”

As he spoke, another of his arms handed her a pure white mask.

”I don’t need it,” Korma said nonchalantly, waving her hand. As she’d said, she didn’t care if others knew what she was buying; she didn’t need anonymity.

”For fairness, it’s the rule,” the Multi-arm Tribe Attendant insisted.

On Buji Island, First University was undoubtedly the ruler, and its student council held at least a third of the power over the school’s daily operations. As the vice president of the student council, Witch Korma’s presence indeed exerted a considerable pressure on the other patrons. The rules established by the Wandering Wizard were therefore very sensible.

The witch looked at the attendant’s determined expression, sighed, and took the mask, placing it on her face.

The upstairs guests were few, and the atmosphere quiet.

The door to the first room on the right bore a ’In Use’ sign.

Pushing open the door, Korma squinted slightly. The lighting was dim; there were no fireflies in the room, just a dozen or so candles that stuck out of the wall like rivets, their orange flames the size of broad beans trembling at the wick, occasionally burning to a sizzle and making a soft popping sound.

Four soft chairs spread evenly on the left and right, separated by taller tea tables topped with fruit plates and pastries; and in the room’s forward center stood a small bar, behind which no array of drinks but instead a large landscape painting hung against the wall. In the dim picture, one could vaguely make out a dark forest and some fireflies, but the specific image was obscured by the Wandering Wizard.

The Wandering Wizard stood behind the bar counter in front of that vast landscape painting. Arrayed before him were five cups, and he was holding a bottle, seemingly introducing his prized collection to the other patrons in the room.

Korma glanced over and saw, aside from the Wandering Wizard, three other figures in the room.

One was a short and plump Warlock, all ten fingers adorned with colorful Magic rings. The Witch furrowed her brow slightly, feeling as though she had seen such adornments before or had heard of this ring-wearing Wizard from somewhere. However, this pudgy Wizard was entirely enshrouded in a thick, black robe and wore a Red Mask, making it impossible for her to recall immediately.

Another figure, also cloaked in a thick black robe, stooped over as if a Luo pot wizard, his back hunching prominently and strained breathing sounds emerging from beneath his hood, breathless as if he might run out of air at any moment, which was concerning to hear.

The last patron, though also draped in a black robe, emanated a faint fishy stench that the Witch could detect from afar. It was the distinctive smell of the Fishman Tribe from Lin Zhong Lake.

”Does the Fishman Tribe have so much gold?” the Witch asked the last guest bluntly as she took her seat. ”Moreover, if I remember correctly, Jiuyou Academy currently restricts the Lake’s Fishmen from leaving.”

After speaking, she turned to the first stout Warlock and chuckled lightly. ”Why didn’t Sepulano come himself, sending this little whelp instead... What, is he not completely confident of victory?”

She had already remembered who the small, chubby ring-wearer was. There was only one such attention-seeking individual in the entire First University, a freshman from Alpha Academy named Andrew Taylor. And this young pup of the Taylor family had already joined Sepulano’s Auspicious Club.

The Witch’s aggressive demeanor surprised the other three guests in the room so much that when her gaze fell on the Luo pot Wizard, the Luo pot Wizard, who had been breathing heavily, suddenly forgot to breathe and held his breath tightly.

The Wandering Wizard intervened in time to prevent Korma from speaking further.

”Guests should be treated with respect,” the owner of the Wandering Bar chuckled softly, directing the Sprites to serve ’Time of Flowing Gold’ to the patrons, and tranquilly added, ”Let’s not be hasty, everyone. Our trade negotiations are about to begin.”

Korma took the floating cup in front of her and finally decided to follow the bar owner’s instructions, closing her mouth and taking a seat on the last empty chair.

A collective sigh of relief swept through the room.

Underneath her mask, Korma’s brow wrinkled slightly.

If possible, she didn’t want to be so ostentatious, especially not in the Wandering Wizard’s bar. After all, he was a Big Wizard, and it was said that he used to be a Black Wizard.

But now, with urgency pressing, as the magic circle was to be activated in just five days, she was intent on securing that material.

The Wandering Wizard tapped his silver spoon against the cups, ding, ding, ding, drawing everyone’s attention:

”Before we begin trading, I declare two rules.”

”First, mind your manners and abide by the rules of trade.”

”Second, my word is the rule.”

With that, he paused and looked around, satisfied to see his guests in silence, with no objections.
