High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1177: Chapter 239: Each Own’s Challenge

”I won’t stoop to their level.”

Nicholas assured Liu Fei Fei in front of him, ”I’m not a bull that charges at the sight of red fabric... Before Liz went to college, I’ve always been content to ’lay low.’”

Hearing her boyfriend’s amusing comparison made Liu Fei Fei unable to hold back a laugh, and she playfully hit him.

”What’s this about bulls and dogs, can’t you use a better example?” Speaking of this, the witch suddenly remembered the name Nicholas had just mentioned and couldn’t help but express her concern, ”How is Liz doing? Does she know about what’s happening with you at school...”

Liz was Nicholas’s sister, an extremely talented little witch, and the only family member he had—their bond was close and they depended on each other—perhaps now there would be an addition—since his second year at Starry Sky Academy, Nicholas had always avoided those ’unreasonable’ battles at Starry Sky Academy mainly because of Liz.

He couldn’t let Liz become an orphan at such a young age, so he couldn’t take any risks.

Hearing Fifi’s worries, Nicholas smiled reassuringly, ”Don’t worry, our family isn’t wealthy enough to subscribe to newspapers regularly. Liz has been spending most of her time recently in Professor *’s laboratory, too busy to pay any attention to idle gossip.”

He mentioned a name, but Liu Fei Fei didn’t catch it; it was as if a few seconds had been demagnetized from a smooth tape, leaving a noticeable silent gap. The witch wasn’t surprised, as many reclusive wizards cast numerous spells on their own names to ensure they wouldn’t be disturbed.

”The best news is no news.” She patted the warlock’s arm again and then turned her attention back to the books on the table, ”Have you finished all the homework the professors assigned last week... Hmm, if you have, let’s do another paper tonight. Finals are just over a month away, and although I have a lot of confidence in you, we still need to be cautious.”

Nicholas’s previously smiling expression immediately turned into a grimace.

His girlfriend was great in every aspect, except she had an unusual obsession with studying, always finding reasons to hit the books whenever there was a spare moment.

”Alright, alright,” the warlock raised his hands in surrender, ”At school, my time is all yours. You call the shots.”

The witch’s face lit up with a brilliant smile.

The warlock’s eyes showed a hint of warm sunshine.

...

Jiang Yu happened to see the warm scene of the witch and warlock couple smiling at each other in the corner of the classroom, and for a moment, stood there transfixed, not hearing Li Meng calling her name three or four times.

”Cousin, cousin, cousin!”

The little witch tugged on Jiang Yu’s robe sleeve, almost shouting out before she finally snapped back to reality and asked in a fluster, ”What? What’s the matter?”

Li Meng looked suspiciously at her cousin and reminded her, ”Yilian just said she’s waiting for you outside the teaching building for a chat, aren’t you going?”

Jiang Yu suddenly remembered this matter. Right after the class meeting ended, the typically elusive Gypsy witch appeared at her desk and mentioned she needed to discuss something, asking to meet in the small garden outside the teaching building. Li Meng was right there at the time, so she knew all about this.

The little witch was very curious about the reason Yilian wanted to talk to her cousin, so she had been urging her to hurry up from the very start.

”Got it.” Jiang Yu replied tersely as she shoved her cousin’s hand away and hugged the collected homework to her chest, ”I’ll go hand these over to Tang Dun, you wait for me at the door.”

With a nod from Jiang Yu, Li Meng, clutching her small backpack, darted toward the classroom door and then stood under the Simple Sketch, gazing adoringly at Jiang Yu.

”Kind little sister, can you please wipe off the hat above my head?” Simple Sketch saw someone approach and immediately groaned in a weak voice, ”Summer is coming, and I’m still wearing a winter hat... It’s like hell!”

Li Meng glanced sideways at the Simple Sketch, emitting a dissatisfied snort from her nose, ”You didn’t say that a few months ago!”

She was the one who had drawn the hat perched atop the stick figure’s head!

Back then it had pleaded pitifully for a long time, its requests ignored until the Little Witch, unable to bear it, took out her feather pen and drew it a lovely, fuzzy little hat. But just a few months had passed, and the Stick Figure had changed its tune.

Hearing the Little Witch’s questioning, the Stick Figure was taken aback and froze on the drawing paper. Its memory wasn’t good; it found it difficult to remember who had drawn its hat and who had taken it off. But it always remembered begging these young wizards to do these two things.

”Everyone in the painting is a big jerk,” Li Meng murmured under her breath and stopped paying attention to the Stick Figure.

Jiang Yu handed her homework to Tang Dun.

”There’s a Club Union meeting tonight to discuss the Bell Lake Fishman situation, and the notice has already been sent out to the class. Are you going?” Tang Dun took the stack of workbooks and asked casually.

”From the academy?” Jiang Yu asked back.

Tang Dun nodded slightly.

”I won’t go,” the Witch decisively refused, ”It’s just going to be arguing. We’ve been arguing for months; the more we argue, the messier it gets. You’re the Monitor; you deal with it.”

Tang Dun couldn’t help but give a rueful smile, aware that the Witch was speaking the truth.

Different from the student council, the Club Union had a more lenient management, so their attitude could be less formal and slightly more aggressive when facing provocations from Alpha Academy. As a result, more and more students from Jiuyou Academy liked to express their opinions on current affairs at Club Union meetings.

The Witch greatly disliked this kind of noisy environment.

Watching Jiang Yu’s departing figure, Tang Dun scratched his head and heaved a long sigh.

...

When Jiang Yu arrived at the small garden in front of the teaching building, Elena had already walked around the garden path three times. With each step, she carefully considered what she would say later, weighing every word and the tone in which she would speak them.

Korma’s magic circle required the blood of a Spirit Witch.

Her own plan also required a little bit of Spirit Witch blood.

And the nearest Spirit Witch Elena could approach was Li Meng. This was also the most likely channel through which she could obtain Spirit Witch Blood. She needed an opportunity, but there was no time left.

So, she decided to lay all her cards on the table today.

Jiang Yu appeared at the garden path’s end alone, without her usual pesky sidekick.

”Where’s Li Meng?” Elena asked lightly as she approached Jiang Yu, ”Doesn’t she usually stay with you?”

Jiang Yu replied softly, ”I told her to go back to the dormitory and do her homework... Did you ask me here for something?”

The Gypsy Witch steadied herself, took a small breath, and then slowly exhaled, ”It’s just as well she’s not here... How about we take a walk together?”

Jiang Yu looked at Elena’s profile, nodded slightly, and didn’t refuse.
