Chapter 1186: Chapter 248 Raise Your Hands

Zheng Qing found Li Meng behind a thicket not far from Lin Zhong Lake.

At that time, the little witch was face down, limbs spread out, lying limply on the grass like a turtle without its shell. The only difference from a turtle was that she lay motionless on the ground, as if she had died.

The warlock’s heart suddenly shot into his throat, and he even forgot to breathe as he broke into a run toward the little witch.

But after just three steps, he came to a sudden realization. His right hand dove into the grey cloth bag at his waist and pulled out a handful of talisman papers, frantically scattering them in all directions as well as on the body of the little witch, while his left hand also flipped open his law book, holding it in front of his chest.

The talisman papers mainly served protective and warning functions, and within the law book, Zheng Qing had fortunately recorded a spell that was particularly useful at this moment:

”Let the light from above shine clearly upon the earth below!”

Soft and bright light suddenly illuminated the gloomy forest, as if a small sun was slowly rising, casting everything in a clearly visible glow, even the ants crawling through the grass could be seen distinctly.

For a moment, it seemed there were two moons in the sky, and the magic-created moon appeared even more moon-like than the real moon.

As he chanted the spell, Zheng Qing clearly felt his voice trembling.

This was not a good sign.

The warlock immediately turned to the second page of his law book, steadied his mind, and read, ”Unshaken, steadfast, unwavering, and firm!”

Instantly, the panic at the bottom of his heart subsided, and his spirit regained its calm.

Zheng Qing didn’t stop walking; while moving toward the direction where Li Meng had fallen, he kept a vigilant watch on his surroundings, flipping through his law book. Because relying solely on the temporary light for visual observation wasn’t enough to put his mind completely at ease.

Who knew if, among the thickets or meadows, there lay hidden a venomous snake flicking its forked tongue.

He took another two steps and finally found the appropriate spell, clearing his throat he whispered softly:

”All around stretches the space, clearly visible in every minute detail!”

”Heaven descends the guilty net, villains embroiled in strife!”

The former spell enhanced the wizard’s observational and perceptive abilities, keenly alert to any disharmonious presence around, one of the most commonly used spells in law enforcement and detection wielded by the Trident Sword; the latter spelled disaster for the wizards’ enemies, sending down a web of guilt and stirring conflict among the thieves, as straightforward as the spell described.

These two spells were indeed very useful.

In the instant the pale green halo spread, the bushes beside Li Meng rustled and two furry balls burst out, struggling, biting each other, and running off into the distance.

It was only then that Zheng Qing belatedly realized they were two twin-tailed squirrels that had suffered an undeserved calamity—they must have been hiding in the thicket indulging in some shame-shame activity and were maliciously disturbed by some unscrupulous warlock.

Sin, sin, the warlock muttered to himself and reached to touch the back of his neck.

In just a moment, a layer of fine sweat had broken out on his back, and now the cold night wind blew over him, instantly raising goosebumps on his skin.

He was five meters away from Li Meng, normally less than ten steps away.

Zheng Qing slowed down his pace once again, and while keeping an eye on his surroundings, he flipped through two more pages of the law book and found a very obscure spell, ”Chu-chu-zhe ci, yan chou qi ji!”

This spell was suitable for areas overgrown with wild grass and brambles, aimed at clearing the weeds and thorns. As Zheng Qing chanted, the weeds within a three-meter radius of Li Meng seemed to be hit by a reversing spell, quickly shrinking back into the soil at a speed visible to the naked eye, leaving behind a pit-filled territory and fresh soil.

An Earth Dragon, as thick as two fingers and dark-red in color, rolled its slimy body and burrowed deep into the soil; a Mousewife followed a few ants into a hole in panic, but unexpectedly, the hole was too small. The Mousewife got stuck halfway, leaving half of its body hanging in midair, its short legs kicking helplessly in the air.

Zheng Qing finally let out a small sigh of relief and, without hesitation, stepped forward quickly to Li Meng’s side. He smacked several talisman papers for warding off evil, dispelling curses, purification, and protection onto her, and seeing the slowly rising green smoke did not exhibit any abnormalities, he then flipped the little witch over.

Under the moonlight, Li Meng’s face was somewhat pale, as if she had lost too much blood.

Zheng Qing extended two fingers, took her pulse, paused for a few seconds, and finally fully relaxed, sitting down on the ground with a ”plop.”

Thank goodness, thank goodness.

The little witch was still alive.

”Snap! Snap! Snap!”

A series of crisp sounds of magic bursts erupted around Zheng Qing. Four or five figures wrapped in black and grey robes arrived belatedly, but without any hesitation, they raised their law books and aimed uniformly at a certain warlock holding the little witch.

This was no surprise—imagine in the pitch black of night, intense magic fluctuations suddenly arose from deep on the campus, triggering the alert of the Protective Legal Formation, and the school workers and teaching assistants who came to investigate found a little witch lying unconscious on the ground, being cradled in the arms of a sneaky warlock.

To tell the truth, the reason the teaching assistants and school workers didn’t immediately hurl curses at the warlock was because he was too close to the little witch, and they were worried that their magic might harm her with a secondary injury.

”Drop your law book! Raise your hands!” a commanding voice yelled at Zheng Qing, ”Spread your fingers wide, and don’t make any sudden moves!”

The magical glow stirred by the law book dazzled Zheng Qing, making his head spin as he raised his hands and shouted, ”This was an accident! The spells that were just cast were mine! I came here, and she was already lying on the ground! I am Zheng Qing!!!”

”Zheng Qing?!” an astonished voice mixed with irritation rang in the warlock’s ears: ”How come it’s you again? Shouldn’t you be in the library at this time?!”

”I was in the library before. I saw through the window that Li Meng sneaked out—she must have sneaked out; at this time, her cousin Jiang Yu would have her doing homework—so I wanted to help and bring her back. That’s why I came out and followed her to this spot just now, only to find her collapsed on the ground. I used some detection and protective spells because I was worried about dangers around. You can verify all of these!”

Worried that the school workers and teaching assistants would misunderstand him, Zheng Qing spoke rapidly, spilling everything from start to finish, including his thoughts. Because he spoke too fast and his description of the events was too simple and genuine, none of the school workers and teaching assistants said anything for a moment.

Of course, they still held their law books in front of their chests, aiming at Zheng Qing.

However, the original surge of magical fluctuation on the law books had receded a lot, turning into a faint, luminescent glow covering the books. Moreover, the ominous red signals that had given off a dangerous aura turned into safer-looking green spells.
